Self-development is crucial, especially in coaching. Many employees believe that it's the company's responsibility to train them, but it's important to make them aware of the benefits of self-development. Asking questions like what they did to prepare for an interview or how they developed themselves outside of traditional training can help them realize what they can do. Self-development is powerful and can give a competitive edge as not many people prioritize it. This section will discuss the value of self-development. When it comes to self-development, especially when it comes to coaching, it is really a very important transfer responsibility. When you think about a transfer responsibility, often employees will think, well, it's the company's responsibility to train me, and it is very, very important to instill in people and give them the opportunity and the awareness of what self-development can do for them. When you think about going up to someone who was passed over for a job, and let's say, for example, they feel jaded or they felt like it was unfair, ask them questions such as, well, what were you doing to prepare yourself for the interview? What were you doing to develop yourself outside of the traditional training? What that does is it gives awareness to people of what they can do. We get lulled into this fallacy that it's the company's responsibility to train us, whereas the power of self-development, think about that. Somebody who develops oneself is actually going to be ahead of the competition because, quite frankly, few people do it. During this section, we're going to talk about the value of self-development.
