Vitalik Buterin, the founder of Ethereum, had a unique upbringing and early interest in technology. After researching Bitcoin, he realized he could contribute to the cryptocurrency world and founded Ethereum. Despite facing challenges and criticism, Ethereum became highly popular. Vitalik played a crucial role in the company's success, but this reliance on him contradicted the decentralization principle. Ethereum also faced issues with developers wanting to implement a tax system, which Vitalik opposed. However, he ensured that Ethereum stayed true to its goals, even after a major hack. Ethereum 2.0 was a significant milestone, and Vitalik is known for his philanthropy and impressive language skills. The future of Ethereum and the Web3 space depends on continued innovation and growth. No love poem for you, Zakaria, today. I'm sorry. I don't want to spoil you too much, right? Remember when Netflix woke up? Goddamn, that doesn't make sense. Remember when you woke up one morning and saw that Netflix canceled your favorite show? And the worst part? You couldn't do anything about it. Well, as it turns out, you're not alone. One day, World of Warcraft canceled their favorite characters and one of their fans took it to heart. And in his revenge, he literally introduced a new form of the internet. So in this video, we're going to talk about Vitalik Buterin. The man behind why images of creepy monkeys are worth millions of dollars. The man behind why creepy pictures of monkeys are worth millions of dollars. We're going to talk about his history, where Ethereum is now, and maybe what the future holds for this ambitious project. You probably guessed it already. Vitalik had quite an interesting way of growing up. Instead of living in a room full of toys and action figures, he grew up with a room with one computer. Both of his parents were incredibly good at math and very interested in technology. And this led them to homeschooling Vitalik from the age of six. So when he grew older, he knew Python and C++, while other kids were still obsessed with Cartoon Network. Kind of a head start, right? Later on, they tried to integrate Vitalik into the regular education system, which didn't work that well. But later they sent him to Abelard School, which is an institution for rigorous academic progress and smart young minds. He crashed Abelard and later went on to go to visit Waterloo University. But after a year, he decided to drop out. And why? So this is where it becomes interesting. Vitalik was studying and somebody offered him to write an article about Bitcoin. He declined. Why? So Vitalik was studying at Waterloo and somebody offered him 5 Bitcoin to write an article about Bitcoin. Bitcoin, he thought, what the fuck is that? And he declined. But since Vitalik didn't care about Bitcoin, neither did he know what it was. But after researching a bit, he decided to eventually go for it. And the more he read about Bitcoin, the more fascinated he got and got into cryptocurrencies. So after researching about Bitcoin and making his own thoughts, he realized that there is something that he can contribute to this. And that's how he founded Ethereum. So the moment he shared his vision, some developers decided to go together, crashed in his living room and finished the job. And then in 2014, the job was done. The ICO of Ethereum was announced and they raised over 18.3 million US dollars. Sadly, though, after a couple of days, the price of Ethereum started crashing and Vitalik faced criticisms from left and right. This took a huge toll on Vitalik's mental health and put a lot of pressure on him. This is similar to ZZ launching Binance and the token crashed in the weeks and months after the launch. But the word quickly spread out and Ethereum became crypto's second most popular cryptocurrency. But with this immense rise in popularity, Vitalik's life started to change dramatically. In 2017, people started spreading rumors that Vitalik died and the price of Ethereum dropped by 25%, wiping out nearly $4 billion in 24 hours. This kind of suggests that Ethereum depends on Vitalik and Ethereum cannot grow without Vitalik being the face of the company, which harms the decentralization aspect that Vitalik tried to fight for. And that's not the only issue that Ethereum had with decentralization. As with any startup, at some point developers start to get impatient because they want to start making money. And Ethereum didn't really have a business model to begin with. You see, Ethereum is open for anybody to build on. No matter the type, Ethereum is free to use and got you covered. This is great news, because it allows humanity to grow. This is great news, because it allows technology to be spread at no cost besides the annoying gas prices. And anyone can use it. However, other developers got a bit greedy and wanted to implement a tax system on the Ethereum blockchain. Maybe looking back, it could have avoided a lot of scams, because the entry barriers would have been higher too. But Vitalik said no. No and opposed this move. However, soon after he rejected their proposal, most of the developers packed their bags and left the Ethereum villa. Luckily, this blow didn't stop him or Ethereum. To go back about decentralization, over the years Vitalik has ensured that Ethereum stays the thing that it always wanted to be. Well, except one time. This happened when a DAO hack allowed hackers to steal $150 million due to flaws in Ethereum's code. In response, Vitalik changed Ethereum's blockchain to something called a hard fork, which not only helped to recover the stolen funds, but also to ensure that future hacks are stopped or minimized. But not everybody was happy with the move, since a couple of diehard decentralization Ethereum people said that he is destroying what he stands for. And even if Ethereum itself made a mistake, they have to stick with it. However, as time went their way, people kinda moved on and forgot about this first, let's call it decentralization hiccup. A couple of years later, this year, Ethereum rolled up Ethereum 2.0. Without this, Ethereum was becoming a bit like Gordon Ramsey. Loud, crazy, annoying, unreliable. And guess what? They sticked the landing. And shortly after, the price of Ethereum soared up. Well, not really. But anyhow, it was a big step in the history of Ethereum. But besides that, there are a lot of other rumors circulating around Vitalik. One says that he might even be the founder of Bitcoin, Satoshi Nakamoto. And sometimes people say that he is Voldemort from Harry Potter, because that's kind of his name if you switch the syllables around. So needless to say, being Vitalik is very hard. And that's not it. To impress the Chinese government and to loosen their crypto regulations, he decided to learn Chinese just in a matter of a couple of months. And because of that, the Chinese government was impressed and started to research into cryptocurrencies and regulations. So regardless of his success, him being a billionaire, he still ensured that humanity governs above all. In 2019, he decided to donate a billion dollars to India's COVID relief package. Where does his money come from? Well, the Shiba Inu army decided to airdrop him a whole lot of coins. And they thought that he is going to keep the token, which is going to explode the price of Shiba Inu. So Vitalik is one of the most famous people in the crypto space. He is a genius that grew up in Canada with two parents that were, let's say, also geniuses. He went to a high school that was focused on mathematics and computer science, went to Waterloo, read an article about Bitcoin, and then created the future of the Internet. While there were some hiccups along the way with decentralization, Ethereum now is flourishing. And Ethereum 2.0 created a new chapter in the Web3 space for everybody involved. So my question to you, what is one thing that Ethereum can still implement? My question to you, what is one thing that Vitalik or Ethereum can do to innovate and grow the Web3 space? Let me know in the comments below.
