The structure of a nerve depends on its type and location, with the outermost layer being the epineurium, the middle layer being the perineurium, and the innermost layer being the endoneurium. There are two main types of nerves: sensory nerves and motor nerves. Sensory nerves transmit signals from sense organs to the brain or spinal cord for interpretation, while motor nerves transmit signals from the brain or spinal cord to muscles or glands for movement or secretions. Some nerves have both sensory and motor functions. This is Dr. G. Sumalata and I'll be dealing with the Human Anatomy and Physiology Unit 3 Nervous System. Nerves are the essential parts of the nervous system that help us sense, move and function. These are composed of bundles of nerve cells or neurons that transmit electrical signals throughout the body. The structure of nerve depends on its typical type and location. Generally, a nerve consists of a group of neurons that are organized into fascicles, which are surrounded by connected tissue layers. The outermost layer is called epineurium, which holds the entire nerve together. The middle layer is called the perineurium, which encloses each fascicle. The innermost layer is called the endoneurium, which covers each individual neuron. And there are two main types of nerves based on their function, sensory nerves and motor nerves. Sensory nerves carry signals from the sense organs to the brain or the spinal cord, where they are processed and interpreted. Motor nerves carry signals from the brain or spinal cord to the muscles or glands, where they cause movement or secretions. Small nerves are mixed, meaning they have both sensory and motor functions.
