Phoenix, a senior at Tempe High, was involved in creating care guides for the Phoenix Herpetological Sanctuary. Max, a junior at Desert Vista, worked on creating an escape room, Noggin Boss, and sports med and therapy projects. Bruce, an 11th grader at Mountain Point High, came to the Innovation Center because he was bored with regular school. His favorite memory is building things in the shop. He worked on the Escape the Room, Mars Farm, and Community Literary Hub projects. The Innovation Center has positively impacted their lives by providing new friends, tool experience, improved confidence, and decreased stress. What's your name, grade level, and what school do you attend? My name is Phoenix Berrigan. I go to Tempe High, and I'm a senior. What Innovation Center projects were you involved in, and what did you learn from them? I was involved in creating care guides for the Phoenix Herpetological Sanctuary. And we visited it, and it was fun. And then also, I was involved in this project. So what's your name, what school you go to, and what grade are you in? My name is Max Johnson. I go to DV, Desert Vista, and I am a junior. And what projects were you involved in over here? My first one was create an escape room. My second one was Noggin Boss. And my current one is sports med and therapy. What's your name, what school you go to, and what grade are you in? My name is Bruce Bosco. I go to Mountain Point High School, and I am currently in the 11th grade. Why did you go to the Innovation Center? Because I was kind of bored with average school. It was just kind of boring, and I was distracted a lot, and I just didn't feel like I was learning as much as I could be. And what's your favorite memory over here? Why did you come to the Innovation Center? First of all, because I really needed a different. First of all, because I really needed a different environment. I was really emotionally not doing good at DV alone. Second of all, I just thought it would be a cool idea. Come to a place where it's project-based, and all the learning is done through working with others and that sort of thing. What's your favorite memory you have over here? I don't know. I've got to say building stuff in the shop. That would be my favorite. And what projects have you done when you were being here? What projects have you been in? I have done, do you want me to say the practice project too? Yeah, go ahead. I did the Escape the Room project, the Mars Farm project, and now I'm in the Community Literary Hub project. Sounds cool. And have there been experiences in the Innovation Center that have positively impacted your life outside of school? Oh, yeah. I've gotten new friends, obviously, from the Innovation Center. I've gotten experience with tools and all that. And honestly, my confidence and interaction with others have improved as well. I was going to ask, what other projects have you done here at the Innovation Center, and what did you learn from them? My biggest project, which is still ongoing, has been creating a community garden with our partner, Native Seed Search, out in Tucson. And it's been really cool working with them. I've learned a lot about things that I never really even thought to learn about. I've had a really good experience doing that. And I'm excited to see where the project goes. We're still kind of in the baby stages of it. And this summer, we plan to make a lot of headway and actually get the garden set up. And then the second project that I've done is this project. So I'm excited to see how this one turns out. And have any of your experiences in the IC positively affected your life outside of school? Yeah, honestly, I think the decreased class workload and being able to focus on projects rather than assignments has been really good for my stress.
