Phoenix Berrigan, a senior at Tempe High, discusses their involvement in various projects at the Innovation Center. They created care guides for the Phoenix Herpetological Sanctuary and also worked on an escape room, Noggin Boss, and sports med and therapy projects. Phoenix found the project-based learning environment at the Innovation Center to be a refreshing change from traditional high school. Their favorite memory was building things in the shop. Phoenix has gained new friends, experience with tools, and improved confidence and social skills through their experiences at the Innovation Center. What's your name, grade level, and what school do you attend? My name is Phoenix Berrigan. I go to Tempe High, and I'm a senior. What Innovation Center projects were you involved in, and what did you learn from them? I was involved in creating care guides for the Phoenix Herpetological Sanctuary, and we visited it, and it was fun. And then also, I was involved in this project. What projects were you involved in over here? My first one was creating an escape room. My second one was Noggin Boss, and my current one is sports med and therapy. And how are the experiences in the high school to the Innovation Center? First of all, because I really needed a different environment. I was really emotionally not doing good at DV alone. Second of all, I just thought it'd be a cool idea, come to a place where it's project-based, and all the learning is done through working with others and that sort of thing. And what's your favorite memory you have over here? I don't know. I've got to say building stuff in the shop. That would be my favorite. OK. And what projects have you done when you were being here? What projects have you been in? I have done, do you want me to say the practice project too? Yeah, go ahead. I did the Escape the Room project, the Mars Farm project, and now I'm in the community literary hub project. Sounds cool. And have there been experiences in the Innovation Center that have positively impacted your life outside of school? Oh, yeah. I mean, I've gotten new friends, obviously, from the Innovation Center. I've gotten experience with tools and all that. And honestly, my confidence and interaction with others have improved as well. That's good. That's good. And that kind of leads me.
