She's a fashion professor here at High Point University. She teaches classes like the history of fashion, social constructs of fashion, and many more. Today we'll be discussing her involvement in the industry and how she got started in fashion. With that, we'll be taking a deep dive into trend forecasting, examining some of her latest favorite fashion trends, some that have surprised her, and some that she's hoping to see. Now let's jump into the episode. So Dr. Brown, can you provide a brief introduction of who you are, your background, and how you got involved with the fashion industry? Mm-hmm. Okay. Very nice. Well, the homework piece sounds a bit familiar on, I'm sure, Lucy's and my end. Okay, so then how has the fashion industry evolved over the years in terms of trends and behavior? Mm-hmm. Mm-hmm. Mm-hmm. Mm-hmm. Mm-hmm. Mm-hmm. Mm-hmm. So in today's digital age, now that you mentioned that you guys got these through paper, and even though you guys have the Internet, how do you think that social media and online influencers have changed the speed and spread of fashion trends? Because I feel like now the industry is very saturated in influencers and trend forecasters online. So how do you think they've made an impact on the industry? Mm-hmm. Mm-hmm. Mm-hmm. Yeah, I agree. Yeah. I've talked to my friends about it recently, actually, just about how TikTok is a huge part in that. And I see, I swear I see a different micro trend every day. And TikTok also has new evolving features. They have a shop tab. So I've always thought of them as like a funny platform, but they're also super informative. And I get a lot of outfit inspiration from them. So I feel like they're one of the front runners in this whole debate. Mm-hmm. Mm-hmm. Yeah, yeah. Because there are Instagram reels, obviously. I just feel like TikTok videos just have more of an impact, if you will. Like I've seen a lot of try-on hauls and things like that, that I don't know why, but I feel like I would normally skip on Instagram. But for some reason, TikTok makes it more of an experience to watch this. I don't know if it's just the creators on that platform or how they're presented to me, but I feel like I accept them better on TikTok. Mm-hmm. I would agree. Mm-hmm. Mm-hmm. Yeah. Mm-hmm. Yeah. Okay, so what are some of the most notable fashion trends that have emerged in the past year or so, and what do you think drove them to popularity and mainstreaming through society? Okay. Mm-hmm. I haven't even thought about that, but now that I, like, when I go into a store, they definitely do have, like, their bright color section still out in the middle of fall. Yeah. Mm-hmm. Mm-hmm.
