The speaker believes that social media should not be used in the classroom as it can be distracting and hinder learning. They suggest using apps like ClassDojo or Band for communication with parents and students instead. While they acknowledge that social media could be used in a technology class, they still believe it is not suitable for educational settings due to the distractions it creates. They prefer using ClassDojo for its interactive features. I do not think that social media can effectively be used in the classroom. Social media is a way to relax and unwind, to catch up with friends and family, and to have fun. While learning should incorporate fun in the classroom, social media would provide much too much of a distraction. The only aspect I could see of it being beneficial is to communicate with a group in a group project or to communicate with parents. However, there are great apps that are available such as ClassDojo or Band. Communication in these apps are great to keep up with parents and students. I could see a technology class utilizing social media. However, I really don't think that social media is good in a classroom setting. I do believe that these apps are more of a hindrance and should not be utilized in any educational setting. The distractions of scrolling on their newsfeed or communicating with friends, it all just creates a problem. The students are not focused on their work or on learning. I love using ClassDojo, however. There are so many great interactive features that include private messaging, newsfeeds, games, and more. I think that this would be the closest thing that I could ever consider utilizing social media in a classroom.
