The host of the Hawks House podcast gives his reaction to the Seattle Seahawks' win over the Los Angeles Rams in Week 18, securing them a playoff spot. The defense played well, with notable performances from Bruce Irvin, Cody Barton, and Uchenna Nwosu. Quandre Diggs made a game-winning interception. On the offensive side, Geno Smith had a subpar game, while DK Metcalf and Tyler Lockett had mixed performances. Kenneth Walker stood out as the most consistent player, despite not scoring a touchdown. The host is optimistic about the defense's performance heading into the playoffs. The Lions also won against the Packers, helping the Seahawks secure their playoff spot. Overall, the host is grateful for the unexpected success of the Seahawks' season. Welcome back to the Hawks house podcast hosted by me a diehard fan in this episode I plan on giving my reaction of how week 18 went down with a huge win over the Los Angeles Rams and a big win by The Lions on Sunday night football that all culminated in a playoff seventh seed berth for the 2022 2023 Seattle Seahawks This Seahawks Rams game was extremely up and down the whole game Starting on the defensive side of the ball. They played great again This is the second week in a row with amazing defensive production from everybody First off the defensive line. They had a total of five sacks Buchanan uosu Darrell Taylor boy a mafe Kobe Bryant and Bruce Irvin being the people with those sacks Bruce Irvin, I want to quickly mention him He has been extremely inconsistent this year when we picked him up he had for the first couple games where he actually played for us He looks great. He looks like the old Bruce, but I guess it's just because his body's wearing down and he's really old He's had a really rough few weeks And honestly, he was taking away snaps from boy a mafe who most of the fans including me wanted to see play Cuz you know, he's our second round rookie. He did not get that much playing time We wanted to see what he could do, but man did Bruce have a great day today Bruce really stepped it up when we needed it and he had a total of one and a half sacks Speaking of boy a now with the Jordan Brooks injury We've at least gotten to see a little bit more of him and he was really good, too Like I said, he had a sack in today's game Cody Barton has seven total tackles bringing his season total to a hundred and thirty six total tackles I think he has about 84 solo tackles Cody's been really good this year. He's another one of those guys that Starting this year in the first couple weeks He struggled a little bit But he's really he's really improved a lot throughout the season and like I said last week or on the last episode We really need him to step up with Jordan Brooks injury and he did that today Cody Byrne is a very interesting person when we're talking about the Seahawks because his contracts coming up He's a free agent this year and I mean, I wouldn't be opposed to re-signing him I mean, I wouldn't give him that much money because again, this is only the first year he's done this But he's really had a good year and I think he could he's shown that he could play well next to Jordan Brooks So I think we should look into signing him Uchenna no, oh sue another Amazing signing from John Schneider this offseason. He had two tackles for loss in this game He also had half a sack like I mentioned earlier which bring his total up to nine and a half for the season He was really a great signing I mean, I know we only have him for one more year, but I hope we can give him an extension because he's been awesome The big play be on defense was really came from quandary digs who basically had the game-winning Interception and overtime on a play that looked like it would be a Rams touchdown I mean Baker Mayfield had I think it was Van Jefferson like Completely wide open with nobody behind him about 40 yards down the field and he threw it a little bit Under him under van and he wasn't able to get back to it and quandary digs came literally out of nowhere It looks like he came from all the way across the field and just intercepted the ball which led to our game-winning field going overtime and Quandary again, I feel like I feel like it's all of these guys with Cody Barton and Bruce Irvin quandary started the year Concerning to say the least he was not making that many tackles But the real problem was he was having so many interceptions just fall out of his hands It felt like he was a ball magnet, but he couldn't catch anything Which was so strange because he just came off a year where he led the Seahawks in total interceptions But now he's really come on as a recent and he ended the season with four interceptions total The defense really played great all day Other than the one drive towards the end of the first half that the Rams ended up scoring a touchdown So now that we've got the defense covered, let's move on to the offense The offense to be honest with you was a completely different story first of all Gino other than the like the last drive of the fourth quarter where Gino should have led a game-winning drive if Jason Myers just Made the field goal. Gino was pretty bad. I mean he went 19 for 31, which is not terrible But for Gino who leaves league and completion percentage, it's not great with 213 passing yards with one touchdown and two interceptions But he really should have had three interceptions because he threw a pass to Colby Parkinson They got just completely jumped by a Rams I think linebacker and the linebacker did pick it off But he was just never able to get a football move down and then drops the ball. I will say with 213 passing yards Gino did break the Seattle Seahawks franchise record for passing yards in a season Funny enough. I cannot believe that Russell Wilson doesn't own that record anymore And it's Gino Smith, but it does show how good of a year he's had But I will say Gino's performance in this game is making me a little bit nervous for the San Francisco game But we can always cover that later DK had another pretty quiet game I mean, it wasn't as bad as his one catch for five yards against the Jets But he only had three catches for 40 yards in this game I were really going to need DK in the playoffs to step up a lot more than he is right now He also almost costed Seahawks a couple of times when Jalen Ramsey was really getting in his head thankfully he didn't Tyler Lockett, I want to talk about Tyler Lockett real quick Tyler Lockett had another like 40-yard touchdown catch where it was his normal just looking over his shoulder with two or three defensive backs I'll just draped over him and he just brings it in and like a basket catch type of way He is such a talented deep ball catcher Which is so strange to me because he isn't this like DK Metcalf Monster of a man that almost every single deep ball wide receiver is in the NFL He's he's a pretty small dude, and he's super skinny, but his ball skills are just absolutely incredible He has such great. He's able to track the ball in the air so well, and it's just insanely impressive to me Kenneth Walker oh man, Kenneth Walker Again, just amazing game and to be honest with you. I'm I think the reason we won this game is because of Kenneth Walker Did he score a touchdown? No, he didn't but he was the most consistent player in offense for the entire game He had 29 carries for a hundred and fourteen yards and one more catch for ten more yards He is the first rookie running back since Saquon Barkley to have three straight 100 yard rushing games and he ended the year with over a thousand rushing yards and nine touchdowns and He wasn't even the starting running back for the first four games or so that's the insane thing Rashad Penny was our starting running back at this year and Kenneth Walker wasn't even the backup because he was dealing with a hernia injury for the first few weeks and then he also had those couple weeks where he missed with his little hamstring or ankle injury in the middle of the season and To me this game I mean it to me was already decided but this game really showed that he deserves the offensive rookie of the year award overall This game offensively was very concerning dude I mean we played extremely poor against a very depleted Rams defense with the season on the line But in my opinion, I think the offense is very fixable It can be quickly changed and fixed and I don't think Gino's gonna have another game like that to me I'm more excited and the fact that now the defense has put together Two straight games of wire to wire good performances They didn't start off good and then get tired by just letting the run game crush them and then all of a sudden in the second Half they can't stop anything. They played great from wire to wire and in my opinion I think they might be able to take that into the playoffs take that confidence that's growing into the playoffs and Ultimately Jason Myers kicked the game-winning field goal in overtime After missing the potential game-winning field goal at the end of the fourth quarter that sent us into the overtime But again a win is a win and I will definitely take it Quickly, I just want to touch on the Lions Packers game So later in the night the Lions played the Packers in Lambeau Field with a trip to the playoffs on the line for both the Packers and the Seahawks I do not completely feel qualified to talk that much about either team because I don't really follow either one but I do know that the Lions are freaking amazing and beat the Packers on Sunday night in primetime and Sent the Seahawks to the playoffs the Lions had nothing to play for and yet they still went out there and played their hearts out Just because they hate the Packers that much and I love it Kirby Joseph picks off Aaron Rodgers again late in the game and he becomes the first NFL player in history to intercept Aaron Rodgers three times in the same season Hayden Hutchinson looked like an absolute beast and ended his amazing rookie season with nine and a half sacks and Jamal Williams broke Barry Sanders his record for most touchdowns in the Lions franchise history with 17 rushing touchdowns Along with becoming I think the entire NFL his favorite player At the end of the day no matter what happens in San Francisco on Saturday This season has been an absolute dream for us Seahawks fans No one not even us expected this team to be as successful as they were and for that I am extremely grateful. What a regular season and I cannot believe I'm saying this But the NFL playoffs here we come go Hawks
