The Cunnamara All Blacks won the Connacht Junior Cup. Peter Keneally, a Rennvale footballer, helped his team win the Leinster Under-16A Schools Championship. James Joyce, a darts player, won a double over the weekend. West Coast United soccer team lost to Tuam Celtic. West Coast United girls' under-14 team lost to Colmanstown. James Joyce also won the Thomas Keneally Memorial Cup and the Mary Canning Memorial Cup in darts. Peter Keneally played well in the North Leinster under-16A final. Clifton lost to Kilconnally in the Adult Division 3B league. Good evening listeners, Paul Gannon here with your Monday Night Sports round-up, it's two weeks since we were last on air, so a few bits and pieces to catch up on and a pride of place this weekend goes to a few different people within the world of sport in our catchment area, notably the Cunnamara All Blacks who had a fantastic victory yesterday and got their hands on the Connacht Junior Cup, to Peter Keneally, the Rennvale footballer who is part of the Scudera Mullingar team that annexed the Leinster Under-16A Schools Championship, that's a fantastic achievement for Peter who is the son of Stephanie Salmond from the iconic Salmond footballing family on the Rennvale Peninsula, so it's been a great couple of weeks for Peter, we'll give you details later. And last but not least, James Joyce, a supremely talented darts player who won a notable double over the weekend and we'll bring you details of that in due course, but we'll start with the All Blacks and this is in from Lee Birchmore. Our men's team kept glorious in their Junior Cup final on Sunday, huge crowds descended on the Dexcom Stadium to watch first-time finalist Dunmore RFC face Cunnamara. The All Blacks spent 10 minutes of the first half without co-captain Ian Staunton due to a yellow card but the lads held strong and displayed immense discipline to lead 11-0 at half-time with a non-converted try from Ethan Griffiths and two well-taken penalties from Henry O'Toole. The second half was a lot slower and at times messier with handling errors on both sides and continuous turnovers. This was largely due to the heavy rain. But the crowds kept on roaring and in the final quarter of the game John O'Brien made a fantastic interception and handed off to Ethan Griffiths. Ethan played a quick ball to Marty Keneally who sprinted down the sideline to pop the ball over the line in the corner. Ian Staunton converted that try and the game ended Cunnamara 18 Dunmore 0. During his acceptance speech Ian Staunton remembered clubmen and dear friends Tom King and Rory O'Toole who had been with us at the start of the Cup campaign but sadly passed away before yesterday's final. The club would like to extend our sincere gratitude to their families and all the supporters and businesses that have supported our men's team this season. The under-14 lines were given a walkover from Galway Bay RFC in their final play-off in the Cup tournament. These points secured them a place in the played semi-final and that game will be played next weekend with official details to be confirmed later on in the week. Cunnamara under-16 girls travelled to Carrick and Shannon to play in the bold semi-final. They were well-deserved winners of that game on a final scoreline of 36-5 and will play the bold final on the 13th of April with venue and opposition to be confirmed at a later date. Congratulations to Eve Morrow and Abby Worley who have been called in for the under-16 Connacht Sevens Trials and to Mariah Rea-Cover who has been called in for the under-18 Connacht Sevens Trials. These will be taking place this coming Wednesday. The club wishes them the very best of luck. And finally, Lee concludes with a congratulations and well done to our under-12 boys team who played at half-time in the Vexcom Stadium in Saturday's Connacht v Lyons game. By all accounts, it was a fantastic experience and even with Connacht's defeat, the boys had a great time. Last Friday, the 22nd of March, Open Stableford. Men's winner was Fergus Dunne on 37 points, runner-up Mick Dunne on 33 points. Winner of the gross was Eddie McCormack on 32 points and the ladies winner was Grainne O'Malley on 33 points. Yesterday, Sunday the 24th of March, the Four Ball Better Ball competition, a qualifier for the annual P.K. Joyce Cup. First, Tony Keneally and PJ Brennan on 44 points. Second, Peter Kane and Chris Shanahan on 44 points. Third, Noreen O'Neill and Aoife McCormack on 42 points. And the draw for this competition, which runs for a month, will take place this Wednesday. And finally, next Monday, the bank holiday Monday, the 1st of April, Easter Monday, is the officers drive-in. And the officers are President Maura O'Connor, Lady Captain Brida Conniff and Captain John G. Sweeney. Soccer next and we start with the Adel Championship. This match played at Claddadof yesterday. West Coast United nil, Tuam Celtic 2. No joy for West Coast yesterday. Hit the woodwork three times but came out the wrong side of that result. And they remain rooted to the bottom of the table. They're on 8 points, haven't played 13 matches. Dynamo Blues on 11 points from 12 matches and Mirview United on 15 points but haven't played 16 matches. Bottom two to be relegated and it's a real dogfight now for the remainder of the season. West Coast desperate to pull out a win from somewhere. It hasn't been going well for them in recent weeks. They're out, they're away to Mindvilla this coming Wednesday under the lights in Hedford at 8pm. That's Wednesday the 27th. And next Sunday they're at home to Carrabrangers at 12 noon. And this week ahead, the next few days could be defining, all defining for West Coast United but hopefully in a positive way and they'll turn their season around. Under 15 West Coast playing at Division 1 level. East Galway United won, West Coast United won. East Galway United remaining top there on 15 points from 9 matches with West Coast on 14 from 10. East Galway got the draw they wanted and it might be enough to keep them ahead of West Coast there for the remainder of that campaign but we'll just have to see how the results pan out. Sorry, that's under 18. That's under 18 at Division 2 level there, my mistake. Now I go to under 15s at Division 1 level and they defeated St. Pat's Carlistra in 2-0. But Uchterwaard also had a 2-0 victory away to East Galway United. Titanic struggle, Titanic tussle should I say at the top of that table. Uchterwaard on 25 from 10. West Coast breathing down their necks on 22 from 10. Merlin Woods also on 22 but they've played 12 matches. All to play for there. West Coast under 14s, they lost 2-1 away to Merlin Woods and they remain in 6th place in their Division 1 league table in the bottom half of that table. Their next match is this coming Saturday and they're away to Bairn in Aferbica at 12.30. West Coast under 12s who play at Division 3 level had a 1-1 draw away to Merview United B and they remain in 3rd place in their league. Next Saturday the 30th they're at home in Letterfrack. Well that might be clad enough depending on how the pitches are. They're at home at 12 noon kick-off there against Colga B. Moving on to West Coast United girls and they're under 14 girls playing at Division 1 and they are still without a point in their league table but they are improving and they are much more competitive as matches are going on. Colmanstown 6, West Coast United 2 at the weekend. They're home to Colmanstown this coming Wednesday in a re-fixed match. That match going ahead at 5pm in Claddoch. That's this coming Wednesday. West Coast under 12 girls they lost 4-1 away to Kiltulla Pioneers and they're at home to Kiltulla next Saturday the 30th of March at 2pm. Moving on to Darts and it was a great weekend for the aforementioned James Joyce. He won the inaugural Thomas Keneally Memorial Cup which was hosted by Kews on Saturday the 23rd of March. Semi-final results as follows James Joyce 4, Alan Flaherty 3, Eamonn Manion 4, Dermot Flaherty 2 and in a Titanic final it was James who came out on top against Eamonn on a 5-3 scoreline. Gerry Folen defeated Dara Wallace there 5-1 in the Shield final. The Mary Canning Memorial Cup which is run by Grand Wales LGFA was hosted by McGrath yesterday, Sunday the 24th of March. Semi-final results in the Cup as follows Noel Leggett 4, Keviss Purcell 0 and James Joyce 4, Dan O'Malley 2 and in the final it was James 4, Noel 0 as James completed a memorable double over the weekend. So a huge congratulations there to James Joyce who's a really talented dart player and has been for a good many years now. The Shield semi-final results from the Mary Canning Cup yesterday. Gerry Folen 4, Eric Diamond 1, Evan Hania 4, Sean Price 1 and in the final it was Gerry Folen 5, Evan Hania 2. Gerry there winning the Shield title, a Shield double over the weekend. So well done to him too and he retained the Mary Canning Shield that he won last year. So a great weekend for darts. Might be the last weekend of darts for the current season. I'm sure there are probably one or two Memorial Cups potentially still to be played for. We will keep you posted on Conamara Community Radio if we get any information. But as it stands, the weekend gone by might well signal the end of the darts season but we'll keep you posted if we get any information on any other upcoming competitions. And now we turn to Peter Keneally, the Rinnevale footballer from Tullymoor and Peter, who attended Clifton Community School, now attends Clos de Were in Mullingar and in the North Leinster under-16A final against Marist from Athlone. The match finished level, level again after extra time, went to penalties and had to go to sudden death and Mullingar came through that. They then went on to defeat Maynooth by 5-5 to 1-6 in the Leinster semi-final. And today a brilliant match against Naith CBS played up in the Royal County. It was Clos de Were in Mullingar, 3-13, Naith CBS 1-16. Peter Keneally played No. 7 left-half back there. Huge congratulations to Peter on a superb achievement, playing at the highest level there in Leinster College's football. And hopefully in a couple of years' time he might add an under-18 title to the, a senior title to the junior one that he's after winning. So well done there to Peter. Moving on to Club GA, Adult Division 3B league, Kilconnally 1-9, Clifton 1-8. And Clifton's second match this coming Saturday, their first home match, 4pm, Cartoon Shamrocks, The Visitors. And that was a tremendous opening performance by Clifton away to Kilconnally. Going very, very close and hopefully, hopefully they'll get the win on Saturday. Adult Division 4A, Menlot 1-13, Carna Cattle 1-9. Good performance there by Carna Cattle against last year's junior championship winners, Menlot, who are now an intermediate championship side. Just falling short there by four points. They're out at 5pm this Saturday, Carna Cattle, in their next encounter against Clare Galway B. Renfrewshire's opening Division 4B league match at home to MacCullan B didn't go ahead due to the unplayable state of the letter-frack pitch on the day. They're out next Sunday, the 31st, in Westside at 12 noon against St Michael's B. That might not go ahead at 12 noon with West Coast United also in action. There'll be dual players there playing for West Coast and for Inverness, so maybe best to check out the time on that, anyone who's intending on travelling, because sometimes the times get changed to accommodate the dual players. Under 17, C-League West, two results in, Niamhanna-Litchermore 2-7, Clifton 1-5, and on Spigel 3-8, Carna Cattle 18 points. A one-point victory there for Carna Cattle in Spigel. And I finish tonight with a come-in-a-month-scale item, Primary Schools Football Tournament, which was hosted by Ní Féin an Clóchan last Thursday. This fine report in from Cullum Wallace, this competition the brainchild of Cullum Wallace, and we'll conclude tonight's bulletin with this report. Just to thank Odie here on technical for all his help, and we'll run with this to close out. On Thursday the 21st of March, hundreds of children attended the second annual Cunnamara 13-a-side National Schools Football Tournament at Clifton GAA grounds. This year the tournament welcomed 16 schools from the West Cunnamara region. Many of these schools are very small and they were amalgamated into equally-sized teams, which led to some fantastic contests between evenly-matched sides. A light drizzle all morning failed to impede the girls' tournament, which threw in at 10am and saw six evenly-matched sides squaring up, with all matches marked by great sportsmanship and tight finishes. The Shield final was won by Scullroyd Clifton, who had a little too much for a brave letter-frack side. Clifton were particularly well-served by Eibhinn O'Malley, Hallie McKenna and Darcy Walton. The Cup final paired Dukia Seoiach, four schools from the Joyce Country region, An Orkia, Curnamona, An Cluckfraic and Tiarna Cilla, and Na Ciarra Tharge, the latter an amalgamation of four small schools, Albrach, Ballycunile, Cashel and Roundstone, this time from the region south of Clifton. In a very tight and tense affair, both teams struggled to score in tough conditions. Na Ciarra Tharge got an early goal, which was cancelled out by Dukia Seoiach early in the second half. A tense few minutes ensued, with a late point by Lucy O'Toole being just enough to secure victory for the girls of Na Ciarra Tharge to much jubilation. The runners-up had performed brilliantly, and there were many heroic contributions from their side, including goalkeeper Orla Cain and outfielders Saoirse Bourke, Aileen Ryan and Sarah Fahey. Siva Reilly was exceptional outfield as well, and was unlucky to end up on the losing side. Na Ciarra Tharge had many strong performances throughout the tournament also, including Lucy O'Toole, Aaron Lee, Alanna Joyce, Kweeza Airlie and Chloe Bourke, the latter who really looks like an exceptional talent. Players from Gráinne, Wales and Archaic Lombard and Carna Cashel LGFA clubs were all on show, and the future of ladies football in Cunnamara looks well secure. In the boys competition, there were similar levels of competition, with plenty of skill on show. The Shield final saw Labanid Beola, comprising Tully Lethergesh, Eagles Nest and Leenan, win the boys' Shield against the team from Joyce Country. In an evenly matched game, the North West Cunnamara team just came out on top, with great performances from many players, including Cuillan Gavin, Sheeran and Diamond Carey, and Colleen Kerrigan. The Cup final, meanwhile, resulted in jubilation for Letterfrac and heartbreak for OMI, the Claddadof-Clegan-Kingston amalgamation, who came up just short after blazing through their qualifying group. Letterfrac National School had bravely opted to give the competition a go on their own, a decision that was vindicated after their great win in the final. Both sides were well drilled, with plenty of speed, skill and agility on show, but a strong finish by Letterfrac and a stunning late goal by Matthew McHugh saw them triumphing on a scoreline of 5-6 to 3-3. OMI were well served on the day by Will Kavanagh, Dohae McDonnell and Donald Prendergast amongst others, but they fell agonisingly short against a talented Letterfrac side, captained by Owen Keneally, for whom JT McDonagh was in great scoring form all day. Taylor Cullum was also excellent in goal, while some of Letterfrac's girls also featured in the final and were pivotal in getting their team over the line, and these included Kayla Kern and Nora Coyne. The games were refereed very professionally and efficiently by Tom Brown and Martin Corcoran, and the day was marked by great sportsmanship throughout. After the huge success that it has proven to be over the last two years, it is hoped to run the competition each year before Easter, and next year there are plans to bring in a team from Connemara lower, that would be the Cammas-Napiershire-Cornicashill region. Thanks to local teachers Paul Gannon, Colin Wallace and John O'Brien for their part in organising the day, and to Clifton GA for hosting. Finally, a big thank you to all the children and the schools for participating on a day when football in Connemara was a real winner. We'll finish on that positive note, talk to you next week. FOOTBALLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL Talk Sport and Connemara Community Radio support Galway County Council in their anti-litter campaign. We all have a responsibility to ensure that our roadways, towns and villages are litter free, so whether driving or meeting up with friends, don't forget to always put your litter in a bin. Please play your part, it's easy to make a difference. Be part of the community at the heathen o'clock. Connemara may carry 15 points, Galway 110, but Galway will still remain in Division 1 as Roscommon and Monaghan take the drop. In Soccer, no look for West Coast United. In Rugby, Connemara captured the Junior Cup with a great win over Dunmore by 18 points to nil. And in the Grand Prix, where Stefan crashes out of the Australian Grand Prix as Ferrari dominates. Coming up now shortly, I will be speaking to Bernard Lee and we'll hopefully speak to PJ Heffernan about that great win Connemara had. But we'll start off with Bernard. Welcome Bernard. Good evening Viv. I suppose for Stefan, crashing out was a bit of a surprise in the Grand Prix. Yes, and very unusual. I think back in the day Viv, when we were watching Grand Prix, maybe in the 80s, 90s I suppose, whenever we started watching, engine failure was much more prominent and so you never quite knew when a race was going to be won or if something could, the reliability issues were much more, I suppose, frequent at the time and the unreliability issues, so we often seen breakdowns for various reasons. But in recent years it hasn't been quite the same, especially for the top teams like Red Bull, Mercedes, Ferrari. It's unusual and it was quite early in the race as well, so he did have some issues, a lot of fire coming from the rear of the car. And I suppose he'll take it on the nose, I suppose, because overall he's won three championships in a row, he's favourite to win a fourth, and you're going to put up with the odd bad day at the office and I'm sure they'll get back to basics. It was interesting that both Red Bulls, I suppose, the other one Perez, he didn't feature as highly up, I suppose when one Red Bull falls out, you expect maybe the other one to come to the fore, but the Ferraris have been improving. They have, they have. They came first and second I think, did they? They did, yes. So, I mean, obviously Verstappen had got pole position, but he was overtaken earlier on in the race as well. And, you know, signs and Leclerc for Ferrari are showing good signs of consistency and the Ferrari team themselves have been improving. They had a good year last year and so now they're moving up again. Now, even though it's been dominated in the early races, the two wins by Verstappen, that's not unusual because he always just comes to the fore, but obviously if your car is on fire, no matter how good you are, you're not going to pull off any miracles. So he pulled in and look at signs who have no seat for next year actually. Ferrari have replaced him, I suppose, with Hamilton. I mean, that's one of the interesting things out of the weekend is a lot of people saying maybe, you know, have Ferrari made the right decision because signs is a young enough driver. We know he's not as old as, I suppose, Hamilton coming to the end of his career. Hamilton is still good, but he proved, I suppose, if he needs to gain a seat with some team, that win yesterday will certainly help his cause and Leclerc as well coming in second. But Perez only finished fifth and, you know, I think in the car that he's in, possibly should have done better. You had Norris and Piastri there for McLaren in third and fourth. So overall you had George Russell, you had the two Mercedes not finishing, Russell and Hamilton and of course Verstappen. So a bad day all around for Mercedes and even on a day when Verstappen crashes out, there's no stepping up to the plate from Hamilton. They're struggling, he's just struggling down the field, qualifying low down and finishing the races. So they're well out of the equation, I mean, already, you know, you have Verstappen, even after the weekend he had, he's still top of the drivers rankings there on 51 points. And then you have Leclerc and Perez and Sainz and you go a long way back down then to Hamilton. So and in the constructors as well, you have, you know, Red Bull and Ferrari up there 97 and 93 points. It looks like it could be a good battle between them there, but I'm sure they'll sort out their issues there. Red Bull, as I said, I think it was, I don't know how many consecutive races he had finished in, without, you know, any fear of engine failure that a lot of teams would have that as well. But he's on such a good stretch. Going for the second time to have 10 wins in a row with Verstappen. So it upset him a little bit, but look, he'll get back to basics. The team will regroup and I'm sure you'll see them strong again at the next race. So normally the season used to start with the Australian Grand Prix, but it's the third race in now. And as I said, over the next few weeks, we'll see it emerging. But as I said, at the moment, it's Verstappen, Leclerc and, you know, Perez and Sainz there as it stands. But the main story is, I suppose, really already three races in is the demise of Mercedes and Hamilton. But look, as I said, Hamilton is moving on next year and it remains the same. It could be very interesting to see him in a Ferrari next year if the Ferrari improves. Yes, no doubt. And is there a break now or are they coming on again in a fortnight? Yeah, I think there might be a break now. I haven't quite got the schedule in front of me, but they have started off. You've had three races there since in about four weeks there and they're off and running. I suppose they've done a lot of the Middle East ones there, like Bahrain and obviously Australia far distance away. As I said, it used to be the opening race of the season down there in Melbourne. But they've rejigged the schedule and there'll be plenty of races, you know, well over 20 races there. Plenty of time for, I suppose, teams to improve as well and do a bit of research in the background. And, you know, it's not as if they start the season with a car that will be improving over the course of the season. That's very important for them. And while it looks like the Red Bull didn't have much improvement, obviously they do have a few issues there with the mechanical issues and the fire and all of that. All the other teams will make improvements as well. So you never know, as I said, there'll be different circuits as well. But one thing for sure is Verstappen will be the man to beat. And I think just for the likes of Hamilton, it'll be damage limitations at this stage. I think he's not going to be fighting for the title and probably trying to get a few good races under his belt before he lines out for Ferrari next season. No doubt. Right, we leave the Grand Prix and we move on to soccer. And what did you think of the Republic of Ireland against Belgium? It was nil-nil and they missed the penalty. But I'm surprised that Brady didn't take that penalty, to be honest with you. Yeah, there's a good debate. We often see it turning up in these premiership matches as well about who should take a penalty and sometimes they go fighting over it. Yeah, I think Ferguson, he hasn't been in a rich vein of form. No, that was why I thought Brady might get it. Because Brady is handy enough with the penalties, I think. Oh yeah, and good experience. And of course Brady, I won't say we see him all that often, but it was interesting, he had a good match as well. He has a very educated left foot, just very good at swinging in the crosses. So he's an added addition there and I suppose John O'Shea seen the value of that. But I think it was a pity, it would have been a great... That's not to say Belgium might have changed the game, it was a good game overall. But disappointing, it would have got the crowd on their side as well. And yeah, disappointing. I think he's a good centre forward, Ferguson, but it remains to be seen if it's not always true that you're going to be the most naturally gifted penalty taker. So as I said, Brady possibly has a good record, but I suppose it just fell the way it fell and they might learn from that going forward. He missed a couple of other chances, but Brady overall had a good match. And Ireland themselves played well. You had Smodics, this man who I think he's 28, he played with Blackburn there, an attacking midfielder. He's been very much in the headlines. And obviously you have Agbeni, Ferguson, Coleman, had a decent enough match. And a couple of good saves as well. Yeah, so it was interesting that he was in the choice in goals. But look, he's a safe choice, he's a solid goalkeeper. And there was that chance in the second half there when Belgium broke and he pulled off a very good save down to his right and kept it at nil all. And look, while it was disappointing maybe not to get the win, what's very good for a team going forward is just to keep defeats off the books and it will get a little bit of momentum going. Now they have Switzerland as well coming up in the next day or so. So I thought overall there was a bit of sloppy play in it as well. There was a lot of missed passes, those little bits like that. But you take that in the round and I think John O'Shea would be happy enough. And I thought there was signs of a nice cohesion maybe and gelling and maybe a little bit more than the Kinney era, shall we say, even though there were some bright moments in that era as well. I think the fact that, of course, you had Brian Kerr on the sidelines there keeping an eye on things as well and giving his wisdom, I suppose, and all of that. So I felt it was a positive thing. I felt the match was good. Belgium didn't have to pull their strongest squad out. They still had some decent players like Crosshard from Arsenal and Doku from Man City, Onana maybe from Everton, Batshuayi, a former player as well. So overall I think Ireland kept them at bay. They had large periods of dominance as well and possession. And from the bench they had Adam Ida and Mikey Johnston and Matt Dardy. There's a little bit of experience there as well. And look at if they can start to unearth some players like this. Moddix, as I say, he was quite energetic and added a little bit of energy to the team. So look at, I suppose, we'll just start to get used to the new names in the squad and hopefully they'll gel. So it'll be interesting to see who the new manager is going to be named, I think, in April. And it'll be interesting to see how they perform against Switzerland in O'Shea's second match there. But I thought it was positive overall. Decent game and decent performance. Yeah, O'Shea has a chance, I suppose, if they could win the next game. His name would be in the hat anyway. Yeah, that would be interesting, Viv. Because, as we said, it's very hard to name off. We've seen a lot of names mentioned and a lot of them just, you know, it's not exactly the most lucrative job in the world. But I think there's potential there. So do you keep somebody with a little bit of experience, somebody from the whole FAI setup and a former player like O'Shea? I don't think there'd be a lot of people going against it. A lot of it depends on who they might have maybe lined up or if they have anyone lined up. But there's been so many names mentioned. It's been a long-running saga now. And it's been a bit embarrassing, I think, for the FAI and just Irish fans in general. So I think what we've seen there on Saturday was decent enough. And we'll see what the Switzerland game comes like. But I don't think it'd be a huge disappointment if he was given the job, at least for a short term, maybe 18 months or whatever. But it might be more interesting to see who they may have lined up. Because I'm running out of names. I can't imagine how many managers there might be out there that would be interested in it. And if they're of a certain pedigree, which you'd like as well. But yeah, we'll see how it goes over the next couple of weeks. Right. We'll move on to the Premiership on next Saturday. Bournemouth are playing Everton. Bournemouth are at home. Yeah, so obviously Bournemouth down there a little bit. And Everton, we know with all their struggles with deducted points and getting points back. So I'm going to go with a one-all draw on this. I think Bournemouth obviously are down as well, needing the points. They're a team that can perform well at home. Everton, look at every point they get, will benefit them in their quest to stay up. So I'm going to go 1-1 on that one. Aston Villa versus Wolverhampton. Yeah, so Villa, we know they're up there fighting for the fourth position. They're just ahead of Spurs. And maybe if you include Manchester United in the race for the fourth spot as well. Wolves have been very good. Home run away, a lot of good performances. Decent football team. I'm just going to, I would hope, as a Spurs fan, I hope Villa don't win it. But I'm going to go with a win. Because I think they need to make up important points in their home matches. There will be a lot of tough matches ahead. So I'm going to go with a 2-1 win for Villa on that one. Right, so you give that one to Aston Villa. Brentford versus Man United. Yeah, so Man United are still on the quest of a wave after their victory over Liverpool in the FA Cup there in the quarter-final. And that was just something that lifted the whole fan base of Manchester United and eased the pressure on Erik ten Hag. They're still in an outside shot of the fourth place, but unlikely. But certainly a win here. I think Brentford are good enough to get a draw. I think United will score. I think if anybody reaches three goals, they'll win it. But I'm going to go with 1-1 on this one. I think Brentford's on form. And they also need the points as well. They're down, struggling a little bit. Yeah, they're in 15th position there and could do with a few results. They haven't had a great 2024. And overall, it would be nice to see them stay up there. Their small London club have done well on limited resources. And Thomas Frank, the manager, has done well. So I'd like them to stay up. So a 1-1 draw wouldn't be a terrible result for them. United will be going for the win. They still fancy their chances of getting into the top four. So it should be a good game. I'm going to go 1-1. 1-1. Chelsea versus Burnley. So Chelsea going, I suppose, trying to get up the table as much as possible. It's amazing they're in 11th position. Certainly not what Chelsea fans want. Not what you'd expect from them. No, no, a lot of money there. We know Pochettino is kind of getting his feet under the table there as far as he can. And still going in the FA Cup as well. So I think Chelsea and maybe City in the FA Cup semi-final. Man Utd and Coventry. So Chelsea still going. They've already lost the League Cup final. It hasn't been the worst season overall. But Burnley obviously need the points for their own reasons as well. And I think Chelsea at home are hitting a bit of form. So I'm going to go with a home win on that. 3-1 Chelsea. Right, a good win. Newcastle versus West Ham. Yeah, a bit topsy-turvy. It's a good match. Obviously West Ham wouldn't have thought they'd have been above Newcastle at this stage of the year. Because Newcastle finished 4th last year. But that's the way it is. So you have 7th versus 10th. And I'm going to go with Newcastle. They need to keep fighting for Europe on that. They just need to get the fans on their side. And Eddie Howe has come under a bit of pressure as well. So anything other than home wins in the run-up to the season is going to add to the pressure. So I'm going to be confident enough to have a few goals in them. I'm going to go 2-0 to Newcastle on that one. Home win. Great. Nats Forest versus Crystal Palace. Yeah. So obviously Forest struggling down at the bottom. And Palace under a new manager as well. They've had a few unlucky losses. Particularly I think to Liverpool. They had a very late goal in recent weeks. But yeah I'm going to sit a bit on the fence there. I think I'm going to go with another draw. I think there might be goals in it. I'm going to go 2-2 on this. 2-2 on that. Right. Sheppard United versus Fulham. Yeah. Obviously Sheppard. Sheppard at the bottom of the course. Yeah. And Fulham have had a decent season. They're up on 12th. Obviously Sheppard United down in relegation zone there. I fancy Fulham have enough of football that they go away from home as well. Again I'm going to... I won't say sit on the fence. But I think a draw might be... I don't think Sheppard United have enough to win. I'm going to go 1-1 on this one. 1-1. Sheppard United and Fulham. Yeah. 1-1. Right. I'm sure you'll go for a home win. Tottenham versus Luton down. Well I will yeah. But again Luton have performed well in recent games. And they're struggling. They're just... Obviously they were in a worse position. They picked up a few good points in recent times. And they're out of the relegation zone. So they have a lot to fight for. But Spurs look realistically they're still in a good shape for fourth position. Had a very bad loss 3-0 there in their last match against Fulham. And that was a huge upset for Spurs. Yeah. That was a surprise result. Yeah. And it was the first time this season they were one of the only teams that had scored in every single match all season. It was a proud record. So because of their attacking play Spurs they could score two but could concede five. But they've always scored. So that was the first game they didn't score in. And they have to put that to right. A few players need to step up to the mark. And the attacking play from Postakoglu there some of them are still getting used to it. And of course it's not so much the attacking but defending when they haven't the ball as well. So this will be important. I'm going to have the heart over the head a bit. And I'm going to go 3-0. And it might improve their goal difference as well which will be important. But 3-0 to Spurs. 3-0 to Spurs. A good win to Spurs. We move on to Sunday. We've just two more games left. Liverpool versus Brighton. Two o'clock kick-off. Yeah. Liverpool win that I presume. Yeah. Yeah. There's a great battle on up there at the top between Liverpool obviously. 64-64 with Arsenal. And 63-50. It's just a fantastic race. Liverpool have been a bit unlucky against Man United in the Cup. But they're still fighting on a lot of fronts. They have the League Cup in the bag already. And fighting on the European side as well. But yeah. You've got to go with Liverpool at home. And I'm going to go 3-1. Brighton have been decent but not maybe as consistent as they'd like. But 3-1 to Liverpool. I'd be confident on that. On that right. And I suppose the match of the weekend. City versus Arsenal. 4-3. City at home. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. That's a huge one of course. I mean I still wouldn't call it a title decider. But it certainly is going to steer them one way or another. It's going to make it interesting. City have a lot of tough matches coming up. Obviously Champions League. Arsenal as well you could say. But Arsenal have hit a good vein of form. 2024 has been good to them. I'm going to go with a home win. I think City might like to put down a marker. But they were fortunate against Liverpool in the recent top match there. Again top of the table match. Fortunate to get away with the draw. And it seems that these are big six-pointers. I'm going to go with a home win. 2-1 to City. But it will be a hard-fought match. And Arsenal are in good form. They will take a draw. And it's going to be topsy-turvy. So we'll see who's top at the end of the week. But City do need to step up on their performances as well. They've got some decent results. But their performances haven't always been as good as we'd normally expect. So you go for a win. 2-1 to City. 2-1 to City. OK Bernard, we'd better leave it at that. Next month is a bank holiday. So I won't be on. So we'll speak to you on a fortnight's time. Thanks for taking our call. OK, thank you, Viv. Good evening to you. Bye-bye. And I'll hand you back to Theresa. King's Paper Shop. Nice to be here. This is your first introduction to Connemara Community Radio is it? It's my second time. I did it last year too I believe. Oh, that's right. Great. Now, you're on because you have some golf results to give us? Yeah, I have the results from our Friday Open Stable Foot. Right. It had 35 players. Good. In the men's we had a first which was Fergus Dunn playing off 10 and he shot 37 points. We had second which was a Mick Dunn playing off 12 who shot 33 points. And our gross was Eddie McCormack who is a plus three handicap who shot 32 points gross. And the ladies went to Bronya O'Malley playing off 17 for 33 points. And then last Sunday, which was a qualifier for our annual PK Joyce Cup. We had it was pretty good scoring considering the weather conditions. So we had in first place, we had PJ Brennan and Tony Keneally who shot 44 points and one on the count back on the back nine. We had second with Peter Kane and Chris Shanahan who shot 44 points as well. And then in third place, we had Noreen O'Neill and Aoife McCormack who shot 43 points. And in our ladies nine hole stable foot, we had Lucia Canavan who played off 19 and shot 14 points. So will the draw be made for that competition sometime? So when the Pro Shop Manager returns on Wednesday, he'll be contacting all the teams to see who would like to play, who's around for the month to play in it. And then we'll do the draw on Wednesday. On Wednesday. So we'll have that the next time we're online. Right, grand. So is there any other results to occur on that day, is it? That's the results, but this upcoming week is a pretty busy week for the club. It is our first officers competition of the year on the bank holiday Monday. And that is the captains driving to obviously welcome in our new officers, which is our new lady captain, which is Brida Connors, our president, which is Maura O'Connor, and our new captain, which is John G. Swing. Oh, great. So that'll be on Monday. On Monday. Yeah. Great. And what time is the drive in at? It is a shotgun start at half 11. Half 11. And the draw for that will probably be done on the Friday or Saturday, just before the random draw for the teams. I see. Great. Okay, Colin. Speak to you again. Thanks very much for taking our call. No problem. Thank you. Right. Bye-bye. So that was Colin Swinley bringing us up to date into golf. So I'll hand you back again. That was at his studio. And we'll hope then to have PJ Heffernan. So back to the studio. Here's the music, go. Cause we are the champions of the world. I've taken my bow and my curtain call. You brought me fame and fortune and everything that goes with it. I thank you all. But it's been no bed of roses. No pleasure cruel. I consider it a challenge before the whole human race. And I ain't gonna lose. We are the champions. My friends. We'll keep on fighting to the end. We are the champions. We are the champions. No time to lose. We are the champions. We are the champions. My friends. We'll keep on fighting to the end. We are the champions. We are the champions. No time to lose. Cause we are the champions. Welcome back. You are of course listening to Radio One Talk Sport. I have online now PJ Heffernan. Welcome PJ. Welcome brother Liz. Welcome brother Liz. I'm very happy to sit in town today and our cup win yesterday in the Junior Cup. That's right. I was going to say have you touched the ground at all? Well we have. There were lads in the restaurant this morning that I said in the game. And then there were some that said well we could have played better. We could have done this. But we won the game 18-0. So I don't know much about, well I know a little bit about sport. But 18-0 is a good indicative score on the whole lot of it you know. That's a decent hammering really. Yeah yeah. To keep any team to zero is a great achievement. And then to score 18 is another achievement. So it has worked well you know. Yeah no doubt. And were they on top the whole time? Yes yes. We went five to try. Well worked out through Shane Sweeney. Through the hands and out the back. And yeah. Now he went down. He could have made it a little bit easier for young Henry to kick a conversion. He stayed out the way. He didn't exert himself and run back in under the post. But still. We can look back at that now and laugh about it. But no. It was a great work team play. And the pass from Shane Sweeney was a delight to see. And it just. Ethan Griffith finished off in the corner. And unfortunately there was quite a swirly wind. The weather was horrendous. Yeah it was. I was injured on Galway Bay. It was bad. The wind caught his kick. He had everything. He had direction. He had height. But just one foot wide of the post. With the swirling wind. But that was fine. And then he went on to kick two more penalties. Two great penalties. In the first half. So we were leading 11-0. 11-0. And were those penalties, were they far out? Or where were they? There was one of them well out of the 10-metre line. But it was straight in front of the post. But he gave it well. He struck it very well. He sweeped the nuts. The way he started kicking it. He didn't seem to ever put pressure on it. No I saw him in the Monastery field there. Kicking a few. And he did a lovely swing really. Yeah it's beautiful the way he strikes the ball. But yeah. And then. We didn't have time. You're wondering. We were playing with the wind in the first half. And you're wondering are they going to come back at you at 11-0. Yeah that wasn't clear. We were in that position in the league finally against Craig. We were 12 points up and we let them back in to win it. You know so. Yeah. You always have that doubt in your mind. You know. But. Then we scored. Probably. I have to see it. The boys are promised me a video of the game tonight. To sit down and watch it. And maybe not shout at the TV as much. Because you'll know the score. John O'Brien the intercept try. They were laughing on the way back from the bus. But John O'Brien exerted himself most to try and catch that ball. And hold on to it. But he intercepted it. And it worked well. You know it was another try that. Just the tenacity. The defence of Connemara. That frustrated Dunmore. You never get them a chance. You know. But overall in the scheme of things the lads were 18 points better than Dunmore. At all stages. They deserved their win. Their win worked well. You know. Right. So it was 11 nil at half time. 11 nil at half time. And then there was no score. Dunmore was zero. There was no score. And we scored the only try in the second half. But you might say. It must have been a boring game. It wasn't. It was actually a very entertaining game. Because Dunmore would get to our five metre line. And we'd defend. And we'd defend. And the next thing. We'd steal the ball. And go back up the pitch. And we'd kick it back to their ten metre line again. Or twenty metre line. And back. And I'd say if you were a Dunmore player or a supporter. And we were outnumbered in support as well. By two to one at least. From Dunmore. Yeah. If you were them. You'd feel deflated like that. After doing all the hard work of getting to our five metre line. Yeah. To be kicked back down again to your own five metre line. You know what I mean? I know. Yeah. And start again. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. But the lads. Our lads never panicked. They always believed in themselves. They always believed in the man outside. And the man inside. And they tackled very well. Now. Everyone's saying. The man of the match. The man of the match. One to fifteen. Or one to twenty-three. If I was on the squad. Probably. You could name the man of the match over the season. But David McDonough had an awesome game yesterday. John O'Brien had a fabulous game. Yeah. The two centres had great games. Hadn't they? The two centres. Yes. Yes. John O'Brien. He had a great game. But for the tackling rate. And the amount of work around the pitch. And the pieces of the ball. And hitting the ball. And hitting the man. You'd have no idea if it was the man of the match. Tommy Mullen. You know? Yeah. He was number seven. Was he? Number seven. Yeah. Yeah. Now Tommy had been probably one of our most consistent players all season. Like you know. Yeah. Touch wood. He had a great run of the season. Because he didn't get injured. Because the position he played in. It's attritional. Like you know. You do a lot of attacking. Yeah. Yeah. You do a lot of stuff that the fancy boys out the back don't see. Like they're wanting to see. Yeah. That's true. Oh yeah. That's good. But he. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah.
