When using supplemental coaching, especially at the green stage, it is important to focus on one or two additional strategies. For example, if someone named John wants to become a team leader, you can use supplemental coaching. However, it is crucial to not rely solely on supplemental coaching and to maintain in-person conversations. Bringing in resources like a book on leadership or an article can show sincere effort as a coach. At the green stage, focus on one or two supplemental coaching strategies. When using supplemental coaching, especially at the green stage, that initial effort stage, what you're looking for is maybe one or two additional supplemental coaching strategies. So let's say we have somebody named John who wants to become a future team leader. He's a current individual contributor teammate now. Now, you can use supplemental coaching. Typically at that green level, you really want to focus on the conversation. Don't simply rely on supplemental coaching as a basis of replacing that in-person conversation. And some leaders have tried to do that, and it can become very dangerous because it can become very dismissive. So at that green level, you want to maintain your conversation, and then what you can do is bring into maybe the second, third, or fourth session, maybe a book on leadership or maybe an article printed out. And what that does is it shows sincere effort on your part as a coach. For the green stage, that entry-level stage, that effort stage, focus on one, maybe two supplemental coaching strategies.
