The main idea of this information is that communication is an important aspect of a learning project. The speaker advises to focus on specific areas of communication, such as thoughtful listening, and give examples of when it was demonstrated successfully. The learning project helps to create continuity between coaching sessions and transfer ownership of improvement or change to the person being coached. It is suggested to assign a task for the next session that relates to communication and its impact on success. This creates a powerful learning project and a consistent application of skills. Now, when it comes to the learning project, again, communication is a big topic. You don't want to have a learning project such as next week come in with an example of where you were a great communicator. Try to drill down if you can. Now, again, you can have your definition of great communication. I always try to drill it down to one area such as, you know, Tom, next week I want you to come in with two examples of where you demonstrated really thoughtful listening in a meeting setting where you did not interrupt and why that created success. Try to be as specific as you can. Again, the learning project ties your coaching sessions together. The learning project creates continuity between your coaching sessions. See, a lot of times when we have a conversation, which is what a coaching conversation is, and we have it and we give feedback and we practice or what have you, in that moment the conversation ends when the conversation is over. Yet you can continue that by bestowing expectations on the rightful owner of the coaching who needs to potentially improve or change, and that's the person you're coaching. It transfers ownership and creates continuity. So again, take the attributes of communication and literally say to somebody, next week, you know, Tina, I want you to come in with two examples of where you really demonstrated active listening and how did that position you successfully. That's a very powerful learning project that creates continuity between sessions and a cadence of application.
