The hosts of the podcast, Gen Z Talks, discuss the fear of getting older. They mention a video on TikTok where a girl expresses her fear of aging and how many people nowadays are scared of growing older. They discuss the Jerezko phobia, also known as the Peter Pan syndrome, where people refuse to behave like adults. They mention reasons for the fear of growing up, such as the fear of time passing by, the fear of death, physical appearance changes, and the pressure of responsibilities and choices. One of the hosts is scared of getting older because they haven't made decisions about their future, while the other host embraces growth and sees it as an opportunity for change. They conclude by encouraging listeners to live life with more light-heartedness and enjoy every moment. Hi guys! Welcome to this new episode of our podcast. It's Gen Z Talks and for those who do not know we are Clarissa and Sofia. So, how are you today? I'm feeling very good today, thanks for asking. What about you? I'm good too, thanks. Well, I think we can start. So guys, today we're going to talk about the fear of getting older. Yeah, exactly. This is a very interesting topic. Did I tell you that just yesterday I saw a video on TikTok of this girl saying that she was afraid of growing old? No, as usual you forgot. Oh, sorry. I thought I told you. Anyway, I was saying that aging for her means being closer to death. Then, intrigued by her point of view, I checked the comment below her TikTok and I understood that a lot of people nowadays are really scared of getting older. Yes, I've heard that this is an actual phobia. It's called Jerezko phobia. It's also known the Peter Pan syndrome. For people who do not know, those who suffer from the Peter Pan syndrome refuse or are not able to behave like grown-ups. Those people still have a youthful mindset and refuse their responsibilities. It's quite sad though. Now, let's see what are the reasons why we're afraid to grow up. So, the first one can be the fear of time passing by. I don't know if you agree with me, but time moves by so fast that you don't notice that everything is slipping through your fingers. And this is why we have this feeling that time theory is never enough and that we are almost racing against its passing. Sometimes we wish we could stop time to fully enjoy the beautiful things in our life. Then, this fear of time passing by can also be linked to the fear of death. Not only our own, but also that of the people around us. As the girl I told you about, many people see the fact of celebrating our birthday as something that brings us closer to our death. I don't know about you, but I personally don't see my birthday as something negative. I totally agree with you, but I think people may also be frightened by how their physical appearance will change, so does the self-acceptance relationship. You know, wrinkles, white hair and many other things can make people feel very insecure. In addition, let's not forget about the responsibilities and choices that we have to start taking. As people age, they start to think about their careers, where they want to move, about the possibility of setting up a family and about their goals. As we are almost finishing school, do you start thinking about what you want to do next? Actually, no. As you said, the years go by and I did not expect this moment to come quickly. I can't make decisions, that's why I'm very scared of getting older. And lately, I saw that others have already planned everything and as a consequence, I feel so much pressure on what my life will be once I finish high school. In fact, I've always preferred not to think about it. So, let's say that this is the only reason for me to be afraid of growing up. But how about you? How do you feel about it? Are you scared? No, I don't think I'm afraid of aging because growth brings about a change and change of thought difficult is necessary. I always like the idea of growing, of pursuing a career I like, of establishing myself and building a family. I realized, however, that the idea of leaving youth behind is sad. But it's also normal that some of us are still unclear about what university path to take or what our future goals are. That is nothing resolvable. However, guys, we should not be scared because it's a phase of life and I also believe that we should live life with more light-heartedness and enjoy every single moment. So, thank you guys for listening to our new episode. We really want to hear your opinions about the topic. Comment down below and we will read all your messages. See you on the next episode of Gen Z Talks. Bye!
