The OKC Thunder made a trade for Gordon Hayworth, giving up Trey Mann, Meechich, Davis Bertans, and two second-round picks. This trade adds a veteran player to their young team. The Thunder have been performing well this season, currently in the top three of the league. Some standout players on the team include Kayson Wallace, Chet Holmgren, Josh Giddey, Jalen Williams, and SGA. The Thunder have a lot of future draft picks and could have benefited from trading for a center like Nicholas Claxton. Yo what's good y'all it's Jono back from Top Boss Central and in today's video we're going to be going over the OKC Thunder and what they kind of did during the uh trade deadline and something that I thought they should have done and yeah I'm just gonna get right into it. So the OKC Thunder had picked up uh Gordon Hayworth. They uh traded for him and they had to give up uh Trey Mann, uh Meechich, uh Davis Bertans, a 2024 second round pick, a 2025 second round pick as well and yeah honestly I do like this trade that they made because it adds a veteran to this very young style type of team and I just feel like it's something that they really truly needed was a extra small forward to add. I mean he's 33 years of age and he's already been through it but he has been dealing with a bunch of injuries but whenever Gordon Hayworth is fully healthy he is a really good piece to add to any team. Now I just really like this lineup now because it consists of SGA at the point guard, uh Josh Getty shooting guard, small forward is now Gordon Hayworth, J-Dub at the power forward spot and Chet Holmgrum over at the center and these guys have just been so great for this OKC Thunder team. They're one of the best teams in the league right now. I believe top three I believe they are the third seed right now they was just the first they lost to the Jazz and that brung them down like a couple of spots and honestly just headed into the season I did not expect the Thunder to be nearly as really good as they are now. It is like on paper they are one of the youngest teams if not the youngest team in the league I believe and it's just truly scary to see where they are now and where they can be and now I just want to kind of take a little bit of a dive into some of the players that they have and I'm gonna start out with like the first guy of the season that they drafted in the uh last year's draft which was Kayson Wallace. Kayson Wallace has been a pretty solid overall type of role player for this team he's been a excellent perimeter defender he's been getting to pass the lanes being able to poke the ball out loose and just get overall just types of really good steals and just play really good defense he's also pretty good from the three ball and they also have another guy who is technically a rookie because he was injured all of last season which is Chet Holmgren and he's been on an absolute tear as of late and just really this whole overall season and he's been in a race with you know the top three rookies of the year candidates which is him, Wimby, and Brandon Miller and Holmgren has just been an overall type of versatile really good lengthy big he's able to shoot the three and just provide them some spacing on the floor he's able to block and defend shots whenever a defender tries to drive in on him he can catch lobs from SGA, Josh Giddey, whoever that is throwing up the lob to him he's really good on the fast break off the pick and roll he's just a really good solid overall type of big and he can do it all for you and just his favorite thing like for me to watch from him is his overall defense and his ability to block shots because i've seen him block nine shots in a game versus the Denver Nuggets and he almost had a triple double off of blocks which is just crazy and he's seven foot one and is able to shoot the three with ease i mean he's putting up uh 40 percent about on the three point percentage uh during this season and his last 10 games he's been almost shooting 43 percent but now moving on over to Josh Giddey uh Josh Giddey has been a pretty decent overall type of role player to have on this like starting rotation he's been putting up 11.6 per game while shooting 45.2 percent from the field he's just a decent piece to have at that shooting guard spot right now to be able to mix and uh throw around in the rotation a bit and uh he's a really solid overall type of rebounder he can play make and he's just a guy that can like feed the stat sheet because i mean some games he'll have like nine rebounds eight assists and then like 15 points and he does show up in some games like versus the raptors just the other day uh where he where they went to double overtime against him he shot nine for 15 put up 24 points six assists and six boards that game and he has had some inconsistencies this season but yeah he's been a pretty good solid overall type of rotational piece now moving on over to the next person who has been on fire this season and he's really just been a truly unstoppable and that is Jalen Williams and he's just been one of my favorite players to watch in the league this year whether if that's him just driving to the basket uh being able to catch logs on the fast break he's really just able to dunk the ball really with a really aggressive type of power when he kind of dunks he looks like Westbrook in a way that whenever he played on OKC and one of his best tactics to score the basketball is him driving in with like his elbow and then he's able to create sort of like a fade away and one of his best uh other moves he does as well is driving to the basket just creating overall types of contact so he can get to the line if he doesn't make it and he's just a really good overall type of fast-paced scoring threat and i'm just truly loving his overall ability to score the basketball this season and one thing i definitely say he's improved on is his three-point shooting because he went from just 35 in his rookie year all the way up to 45 this season but yeah he just provides that overall type of really just good inside scoring aspect that the thunder you know needed a guy to step up like this and they truly got it from him and this is a guy that i think that should have honestly went to the dunk contest because he's such an exciting dunker to me and i just think uh with how good j-dub's been this season i think he has a really great future ahead of him now moving on over to sga i mean this guy i mean it speaks for itself looking at his statistics he's been an insane player this season he's been a mvp top three you know candidate type of guy especially with him beat out now and i'm really glad that he made the uh starting lineup for the all-star game because he's just been such a great player whether that's him this season putting up insane mid-range types of shots he's able to create so much space off the dribble i mean he was able to like sauce up rudy gobert who is honestly one of the best defenders in the league especially in the paint because that's what sga did it on he did it to him in the paint and had rudy gobert jumping i mean it just proves how good of an offensive threat that sga truly is and he's just so nasty when it comes to being able to score the ball whether that's him doing a spin move into the paint or that's him doing an off-balance uh mid-range j it really doesn't truly matter for him he may not be the best three-point shooter but he don't really need to shoot the three ball with how efficient he's been in the mid-range game and just being able to create you know overall types of shots and if he's not able to score the ball you best believe he's gonna find a way to make it to the free throw line because that's one thing he's really good at doing is drawing in free throws and now i want to dive into a serious topic that the thunder have to deal with they have so many future draft picks it's honestly insane i believe they have 18 first round picks in the next six years and personally i feel like they should have went after a center before the deadline ended because they have so many of them and i feel like if you just get rid of a few for a decent overall type of big man it would just be worth it and honestly i think chet homegrown he would just work better as a power forward anyways because he stretches the floor so well and i just feel like he would fit better at that spot and personally the best like player that i think they should have traded for in my opinion is nicholas claxton and there was also some decent other overall types of guys that they could have traded for like clint capella uh kelly olenek wendell carter jr and even andre drumett but i just feel like uh claxton would have helped this team so much more because he does bring that overall youth to really what this team already is and he just brings this team a really good solid rebounder a good you know interior defender and i just personally think he is a true overall type of center but let me go down below in the comments uh do you guys think they should have traded for you know a big before the deadline ended or you do you guys think they should just keep the they should just keep the picks and just draft some people or you know just wait to trade someone in the future now i appreciate y'all watching and as always make sure to like and subscribe and turn on post notifications and i'll see y'all in the next one i'm out
