Afiforum take NASA to court over electricity tariffs. Mining union threatening a joint strike at Sipani's Duwota end. MEC Allen condemns Kayi Leesha mass shooting. The time is one o'clock. I am Maria Gantama Shabani. Good afternoon. Lobby group Afiforum is taking the National Energy Weekly Intel to court. This is to stop NASA from considering municipalities application for electricity tariff increase on July 1 without court studies. In October 2022, a high court order in the Electricity Regulation Act require court studies for tariff increase applications. Afiforum accused NASA of not complying with the order. Mining unions are threatening a joint full-blown strike at Sipani's Duwota following the small dismissal of 280 workers. The workers staged an underground sit-in the last week over an employee share ownership scheme. The Association of Mine Workers and Construction Union and the National Union of Mine Workers, NUM, demand the miners be restated. In the Eastern Cape, community safety emissary Kolile Ngata is set to visit the family of six members who were shot and killed in Tulu last week. Ngata and the police are also expected to update the family on the progress in arresting the suspects. The victims, aged between 43 and 75, were shot in a poza location. The motive for the shooting is still unknown. Meanwhile, the Western Cape Emissary for Police Oversight and Community Safety, Regan Allen, has condemned the latest mass shooting incident in the province. Four people, including three children, were killed when unknown gunmen opened fire at the barber shop in Kailisha on Sunday afternoon. The motive behind the shooting is unknown and no arrests have been made yet. Allen says the suspects in this case have no regard for human life. The murderous incident is horrific and angers me deeply, particularly with the number of young people senselessly murdered and wounded. These heartless criminals have absolutely no regard for life. We need to ensure that they are swiftly arrested so that a conviction can follow. Life should never be this cheap. The South African Police Service should employ every ounce of their intelligence and I urge anyone with information to make it available to all law enforcement agencies so that justice can be done. The rent was stronger at close on Friday as the African National Congress continued to negotiate over the Government of National Unity. The currency was 0.6 percent stronger closing trade at 888 against the US dollar. Currency strategists say this is due to cautious markets as they await the exit market of the GNU and what parties will be involved. This morning, the rent was trading at 18.75 to the dollar.
