The podcast discusses the colonization of the Americas. The Europeans traded with and grew crops with the Native Americans, but also started wars and burned religious temples. The French took little land, traded with natives, but fought with other Europeans and the Natchez. The Dutch built forts, grew crops, but took land from natives and were greedy. Modern societies interact through war, alliances, and trade. And welcome, welcome all. I'm your host, Fareeda Al-Azm. And we're going to be presenting the colonization podcast with Professor Youssef Al-Hassi, our historian expert Ziad Nakad, our historian Rizan, and the archaeologist Lili Massoud. And for our first question is for Youssef. What did the Europeans do well while colonizing the Americas? So the Native Americans traded with the Europeans by trading. They also grew cash crops to expand their economic value. And they also have law establishments like the House of Burgesses. And that is what the Europeans did well, Fareed. Thank you, Youssef. Now the next question is for Rizan. What did the Europeans do bad while colonizing the Americas? So, Fareed, what the Europeans did wrong was that they started wars with the natives instead of making peace with them like we saw in Plymouth. They killed multiple people and burned their religious temples. That's all. Thank you, Rizan. Lili, compare the good and bad from the colonization in America to the colonization to other countries. I'm going to compare two countries, the French and the Dutch. When the French colonized America, the French took very little land, grew crops, and didn't start war with the natives. The French also traded with the natives. That's what the French did good. What the French did bad was getting into fights with other Europeans and a specific group of natives called the Natchez. The Dutch built forts along the north and the south while building fresh patches to rivers. Another thing the Dutch did while colonizing America is that they grew crops. A few bad things the Dutch did was that they took land that was not theirs from the natives. The Dutch were also greedy and took more than they needed, also starting war. This is what the Dutch did bad. Thank you, Lili. The next question is for Ziad. How do modern societies interact with each other? They interact by either war like Israel and Palestine. They also make alliances like the UN and also making goods like oil and spices to sell to other countries. An example is India and Saudi Arabia. India sells spices around the world, and Saudi Arabia pumps oil to sell around the world. Thank you, Ziad. That is all I got. Thank you for being here. Bye!
