The Holy Spirit is a deposit of our inheritance, which is the gift of eternal life. The Holy Spirit is given to believers as a guarantee until we receive our full inheritance. It is important to stay faithful to God in order to receive our rewards in the future kingdom of Christ. The Holy Spirit is like a warranty that ensures our entrance into the kingdom of heaven. We should avoid grieving the Holy Spirit and preserve it until the end. Our redemption and transformation of our bodies is yet to come. The Holy Spirit is necessary for us to access our inheritance. Welcome to our weekly exhortation. Thank you for joining me. Thank you for your precious time. My name is Guy Lamune, Servant of God, Servant of Jesus Christ. Today we would like to understand why is the Holy Spirit a deposit of our inheritance according to the Apostle Paul in Ephesians chapter 1 verse 13 to 14. In Ephesians chapter 1 verse 13 to 14, the Apostle Paul talking about our future redemption says, Whom also after death ye believed, ye were sealed with that Holy Spirit of promise, which is the earnest of our inheritance unto the redemption of the purchased possession unto the praise of His glory. What does that mean to say the Holy Spirit is the earnest of our inheritance? First, let's try to understand these verses. What is the Holy Spirit? The Holy Spirit is the Spirit of the Lord. All those who believe in His Son Jesus and who confess that He is Lord and Savior have received the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit is the helper of those who fear the Lord. He is the Spirit of wisdom and understanding, the Spirit of counsel, of might, the Spirit of knowledge. Isaiah chapter 11 verse 2. What is inheritance? Well, inheritance is a legacy. It is a gift. Inheritance is the practice of receiving a privilege. The privilege that the believers receive is the gift of eternal life. Eternal life is just the whole that encompasses some other benefits. We will inherit our heavenly citizenship. Philippians chapter 3 verse 20. As a heavenly citizen, we will have reward. Now, what is an earnest? An earnest or a pledge or better still, a deposit, depending on the Bible version you have, is a token of something to come. It is something given or deposited to ensure that an obligation will be fulfilled. Now, after giving a short definition of those words, we will try to rephrase these verses. Whom also after death ye believed, ye were sealed with death's Holy Spirit of promise, which is the guarantee that we will receive our inheritance. We have this guarantee until we are set free to belong to Him and to the praise of His glory. Praise the Lord. I think as we are going into this message, you will understand better the meaning of these verses. Now, after rephrasing these verses, it appears that we are not yet in possession of this heritage. We know this because of the word guarantee, pledge, deposit or earnest. The Holy Spirit is a pledge of our heritage. It is a guarantee of what we will receive. And this same idea is expressed in 2 Corinthians chapter 1 verse 22 and in 2 Corinthians chapter 5 verse 5 as well. Friends, it is important to specify that we have not yet taken possession of our inheritance. For the moment, upon receiving the Holy Spirit, we have only received a deposit. When we become Christian, we begin to experience God in our lives through the Holy Spirit. And the Holy Spirit is given to us as a token, as a guarantee, as a foretaste of our salvation. Upon receiving the gift of the Holy Spirit, we have only tasted the powers of the coming age. We have tasted the heavenly gifts. That's what the author in Hebrew tells us in Hebrew chapter 6. Mind you, to taste does not mean to eat, right? Now, we can indeed draw an analogy with a warranty that you will have. Suppose you bought an instant pot. These purchases may come with a 2-year manufacturer warranty against any manufacturing defects, right? After 7 months, for example, your instant pot stops working. So, you return it to the store for repair. It goes without saying that this will require proof that the warranty contract is still valid by presenting the receipt of your purchase, for example. If you cannot provide such a document, your receipt, it is unlikely that your instant pot will be repaired at the manufacturer's expense. Isn't it? Right? Remember, we said that rewards are part of our inheritance. It is something given in return for a good thing done or a service rendered. So, the good thing believers are to do is to stay faithful to God. Jesus says, be faithful until death and I will give you the crown of life. Revelation chapter 2 verse 10. For example, in Matthew chapter 24 verse 47, we read that the faithful servant will be put in charge of all the martyrs' possessions as a result of his faithfulness. Further, in Luke chapter 19 verse 11 to 27, the reward obtained by the faithful servant, namely the government of 10 and 5 cities, suggests a connection with a form of government in the future kingdom of Christ. We read in Revelation chapter 20 verse 6 that the faithful servant will reign with Christ over all the earth and will even share the authority of Christ in judging spiritual beings such as angels. 1 Corinthians chapter 6 verse 3. But right now, we are not quite there yet. That's why the Holy Spirit is given to us as a pledge. See, the faithfulness of each believer in this world is important. God, knowing the hearts of men He has created, could not have given them their inheritance right away the day they believed. That's why He set the Holy Spirit as the deposit of our inheritance. This explains the reason why the Apostle Paul calls the believers to be careful not to grieve the Holy Spirit. Praise the Lord! Like any purchase receipt that we keep in order to benefit from the after-sales service, the Holy Spirit will be the factor that determines our entrance into the kingdom of heaven. You know, we should do our best to keep it in us till the end of the age. That's the reason why we must take care to preserve it by avoiding to grieve Him, I mean the Holy Spirit. We will conclude this message. Every believer is a child of God and has access to the Lord as a son to his father. But we are not fully established in our condition as adopted sons. This will only happen in the future. It is the same with redemption. See, our redemption is yet to come. Why? Well, because we are still waiting for the redemption of our body. Our body has not yet been liberated. Currently, our body is still subjected to death. Death ends sooner or later by invading our body. The Apostle Paul teaches that sin is always in the flesh. And that is why we groan while expecting the redemption of our body. Romans chapter 8 verse 22 to 23. We sigh until our body is freed from sin and death, until our body becomes incorruptible. From that time on, our body will no longer be affected by death or sin. But for the time being, we are not quite there yet. We have only a taste of this glorious condition. We are always waiting for our full redemption and the transformation of our body. Friend, we should understand why the Holy Spirit has been given to us as a guarantee, as a pledge, as a deposit. On the judgment day, if the Holy Spirit is not present in you, you will not be able to access your inheritance. Currently, the kingdom of God is incomplete. We are not quite there yet. We understand why our Lord Jesus teaches us to pray, May your kingdom come. Hallelujah. We have come to the end of today's message. I do hope you understand it. I do hope you enjoy it. If our Lord Jesus wills, I will meet you next Sunday. God bless. For more information, visit www.fema.org
