The speaker discusses their week, mentioning that they caught the flu and had a quiet week. They also talk about preparing for the sale of their house and the new house they will be moving into. They mention that the new buyers are demanding a new roof be put on before closing, which may cause a delay. The conversation then shifts to traveling with children, specifically discussing their experiences flying with their toddler. They mention the challenges and stress of traveling and dealing with other passengers' reactions to their child's behavior. The speaker also talks about the distance from their family and the support they have when raising a family away from relatives. They discuss the pros and cons of being away from family and the challenges of traveling long distances with a child. Yeah, I'm going to do the check-ins right before I do, like, the jumping into the episode. Let's do the cheers. Cheers? Or do I do a check-in before cheers? What do we normally do? Do we do check-in first? Okay. Okay, yeah, so I'll be like, and I'm Tara, and then I'll be like, How was the week this week? Okay. All right, cool. Ready? I'm gonna start recording the video. I know, why did it do that? All right, we are recording. And I'm Tara. All right, Kristen, wanted to do a quick little check-in. How was your week this past week? Good. I mean, that's good, right? It's like, no news is good news. Quiet week is a good week. Oh, good. So I was ready for, like, such a good week and a good, like, rebound from the prior week. But I caught the flu Thursday, so I think your house gave it to us, or just me, because everyone else stayed healthy, which I guess is a blessing. Yeah, Thursday night, I started feeling like crap, and then it just progressively got worse, and I was bedridden for, like, 48 hours, and I finally got back to, like, 100%, what, two days ago? So it was more than a 48-hour flu. It was fricking awful. Don't recommend everyone. Yes. Yeah. Yeah, it was fricking awful. So I'm sorry you guys had that and everything. But, yeah, we're just chugging along, getting this house ready and doing some repairs to the house in preparation for the new buyers. Yeah, so this – not tomorrow, but the next Friday, we close on our new house, and then we move the next day, and then we close on this house a couple days after that. So, yeah. Yeah. So we get the keys a week from tomorrow. Yeah, but the new buyers trying to get this house – or not trying, they are successfully getting this house – they are demanding a new roof be put on. So we are trying to figure that out and trying to figure out if we can even get a roof in time. So who knows? The closing may be pushed back a little bit, but we'll see how that goes. Fingers crossed we don't have to actually do the new roof. Yeah. Yeah. Hopefully. But, yeah, we're ready to get out of here for sure. I know. Yeah. It is. Cheers. All right. So I actually opted for a bubble water tonight. I think last week I turned it up a little bit too much during the podcast. So we are taking it a little easier tonight. But it's hibiscus flavor, which, if you guys have not tried it yet, is the best flavor of – is it a-ha or bubble? Regardless, hibiscus, just LaCroix. I don't know which one it is, but look it up, everyone. Target has them almost all the time. Mm-hmm. Mm-hmm. Mm-hmm. Yeah. Mommy Bay, Oregon. Oregon a-ha. Right? Mm-hmm. Yeah, my mom says she chuckled at the episode. So, I mean, that's always good. But so this week we are going to – we decided to jump into discussing what it's like to live kind of further away from family because we're both out of state from where we grew up, and especially what it's like not just as, like, a married couple, you know, but starting to raise a family. Who – what type of support system do we have around us? Do we like being away from family? Do we not like being away? What are the pros and cons? And just kind of giving the down and dirty of both of our situations. So, Kristen, do you want to kick us off? So if you want to tell the listeners – let's start with that. Do you want to tell them, like, who do you guys have around you? And are they able to assist with things? And, yeah, how involved are they, I guess? Oh, my God, I was going to say this. Oh, my goodness. I think you would figure it out. Mm-hmm. Right. Yeah, that's why – so we didn't have anyone at first. And just military life, whoever's not, like, used to that is you move around, and some people move more than others, but we've been moving around since we've been together. So we landed in Oklahoma, and unfortunately, like, no family is in Oklahoma. So closest family is our cousin down in Dallas. So we – so it's about – with the rest stops, it's about a 17-hour drive. So, yeah, flying, there's never direct flights from where we are back to Detroit, unless you want to pay a voodoo amount of money. But, yeah, the travel – I mean, the trip alone is, by airfare, with layovers and everything, it adds up to, like, a 12- to 15-hour trip anyway. So we would rather have a vehicle at that point. Yeah, so we – at first, when she was, like, super little, we just did plane rides because we're like, whatever gets us there fastest, and we didn't want to stress out about the cars. And then, you know, nursing is, like, we would have to stop every couple hours. But our first trip, longer trip, that we took was to Florida when we met my cousins Jesse and Dave and their boys, and we rented an Airbnb out in Destin. So that was 14 hours and lived it phenomenal, though. But what's the longest you guys did? Because you guys have driven back to Toledo, right? Oh, see, you did what I was trying to avoid. Yeah. Right. It was the fastest, I'm assuming. Right. Did he sleep a lot? I was going to make a comment saying I'm sure there's people that do that. Sorry. Oh, exciting. She is again. Oh, nice. Yes. You can stretch your legs and everything. Right. I'm trying to drive. Is it one of the RVs that has, like, kind of a wall that barricades the driver, or is it fully open? Oh, he's going to be trying to drive. Yeah. He's like, my turn. Yeah. Right. Like, be aware. He's aware of everything. He might be really good. Like, just bring all of the activities. I don't know. He's a good kid. Yeah. Emergencies. Yeah. But, I mean, I would rather be prepared than not. Yeah. I mean, crayons and a coloring menu only go so far. Yeah. Right. I'm going to climb up this high chair, and then I don't want to sit in the high chair. I'll sit on mommy's lap. Oh, and stairs. And stairs. Oh, my God. And Liv will be like, what's that? That's their food. Yeah. Yes. Right. You just accept it, all right? Yeah. So I think she did. What we did was we left at, like, 7 p.m. And so we were, like, we're getting her ready. We're getting her in pajamas. She just, like, had dinner, got all ready for, quote, unquote, bed. And we're, like, get in the car. And we just drove through the night, and, like, Matt and I alternated shifts. And she slept pretty well. But then, like, at, like, 2 in the morning, all of a sudden, it was when she was still, like, rear-facing, so you'd have, like, the mirror. And all of a sudden, I look back, and I just see these two eyes just, like, beaming. Like, she wasn't saying anything. She was just, like, just, like, deer in headlights. Like, I went to bed in a car, and I'm still in a car. It's been hours. Yeah. But, yeah, overall, she did really well. But we haven't done a long trip since. The longest trip we've done with her since then is maybe, like, an hour and a half to an hour and a half. Yeah. It's hit or miss. Yeah. Where did we go? Yes. I just forget where we went. Yeah. Anyway, so she's been on a plane quite a bit. She does really well. If she's tired, it's kind of risky because she'll either be, like, cranky for a good, like, 5, 10 minutes, and then that fall health breaks loose during those 5 to 10 minutes. But then she passes out. If she's not tired, then it's what activities do we have lined up and what snacks do we have lined up? And it's like, oh, okay, sorry. So she, the last plane ride we went on, I got, like, mama bear mode. And normally, I'm a pretty considerate person, I would think. But I'm also, one of my weaknesses is, like, I'm a people pleaser, too. So we had this gentleman, older gentleman, maybe, like, 50s, 60s in front of us. And Liv was sitting on my lap, was not touching the seat, was not doing anything. Like, I was being very cautious or, like, aware of where her feet were, where her hands were, because I don't want someone kicking my seat throughout the plane ride. And she tapped his chair once, once this entire time. And my eyes were on her the entire time. And my arms were protecting her, you know. And he lost it. And he looks back. And he looks at me. And he's like, she keeps kicking my seat. And I just, like, you know that rage you feel inside? And, like, I looked at him dead in the eyes. And I said, actually, she hasn't. It was one time. And she's two years old. What do you want me to do? Like, go to bed, put your headphones in, like, just fall asleep. And I was like, oh, great. Mm-hmm. You're right. Catching a ride. Mm-hmm. Mm-hmm. Mm-hmm. Right. Right. Right. What do people expect the parents to do? Let them, like, take laps down the aisle and then, like, annoy everyone? I would rather my kid annoy one person on the jet and not 200 people on the jet. Right. Right. Also, I'm pretty sure an adult would mess with the chair more than I let Liv mess with the chair, you know. Oh, the fury I felt. And, you know, I feel like parents are already under intense, like, stress that they probably put on themselves because they're thinking of what other people are thinking, right? Maybe that's just a me thing. But, like, I, yeah. So stressful. So stressful. And I am constantly, like, I have to have a plan, a backup plan, a tertiary plan, like, an emergency plan. And I am just constantly, like, oh, my God, she shouted a little too loud, even though it was in excitement, was it too loud? And I'm, like, forgetting there's ambient air still. And, like, airplanes are loud anyway. Oh, gosh. So. Mm-hmm. Right. Right. Did you say crash? Right. You see, like, a lady next to you grip her seat a little tight. What is it on the movie Bridesmaids where it's all, like, old English women on the wing? Such a good movie. Yeah. But, like, traveling, yeah, I feel like you can be as prepared as you want, but it's never going to go as you're hoping. It just is what it is, and you have to stop my lesson learned. You just have to stop trying to please other people. Like, your child is number one priority, and then your family, like, your best, you know, your significant other. And it's just whatever. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah.
