Rihanna is set to perform at the Super Bowl after a hiatus. She hasn't released new music since 2016. Speculations about who she will bring on stage with her include Jay-Z and Eminem. She agreed to perform to represent her son and her people. She has only 13 minutes to perform her hits. She has focused on her successful beauty and lingerie brands. She invited influencers to promote her brand and made special merchandise for the Super Bowl. Her fans are called the Rihanna Navy, which some find strange. Overall, her PR leading up to the performance has been impressive. Well, Miguel, I don't know about you, but I am very excited to see Rihanna perform since, one, she just had a baby back in May with A$AP Rocky and hasn't released any music since her anti-album, which came out in 2016, featuring popular tracks such as Love on the Brain, Kiss It Better, and Work featuring Drake. There are so many people speculating who Rihanna will bring out on stage with her. With controversy surrounding rapper Kanye West and his comments targeting Jewish individuals, I doubt Rihanna would want to share the stage with someone who has been removed from national brands such as Adidas and has been the prime example of cancel culture. Ouch. Others predict Jay-Z and Eminem will make a surprise appearance, performing smash hits like Umbrella and Love the Way You Lie. Rihanna hasn't given any hints as to how she wants to open the show. The reason why she agreed to do the Super Bowl in the first place, after being on a hiatus for six, seven years, was to be a prime example of representation for her son, and I think that's great. I think it's a great reason to go ahead and represent your people and show why it's important. She's from Barbados, a very small island, to show that she wants to give back to her people, but also show her son that this is something that you should do. Now, she only has 13 minutes to include all of her amazing billboard hits, and it seems impossible to choose if you ask me. Now, if I had to predict which song she would start with, it would be Be Better Have My Money, because if you're coming off a hiatus and you want to let everyone know who you are, this is the song that you would do it to. Imagine these lyrics. Who y'all think you frontin' on? Like, brah, brah, brah. Pay me what you owe me. Don't act like you forgot. Call the shot, shot, shot. I mean, to me, that just rings music to my ears. She has been so focused these last six years on building both her company Fenty Beauty and Savage X Fenty, which is a lingerie brand, both of which gain incredible success and exposure on social media, especially on TikTok, through popular influencers or content creators. Rihanna actually invited multiple influencers to Scottsdale to watch her perform while promoting her Fenty brand. Talk about smart marketing strategy. The New York Times reported it's been four and a half years since her last performance, which I couldn't believe was real. I thought it was also interesting that her fashion clothing brand, Savage X Fenty, sold out of a limited edition t-shirt with the words, Rihanna's concert interrupted by a football game. Weird, but whatever. This was quite literally hilarious to me. Apparently, her fans are referred to as Rihanna Rihanna Navy, question mark? Not a great fan base name in my opinion. Like, you have Barb's for Nicki Minaj and Belieber's for Justin Bieber, Swifties for Taylor Swift. Those make sense to me. Where do you decide to put Navy in a fan base? Rihanna also made a special merchandise leading up to her Super Bowl performance, including super cute packaging for her Fenty Beauty brand, including a football-shaped beauty blender, which you use to apply foundation, concealer, and such. For any of the men watching, yes, those are beauty products, and a football-sealed inspired makeup bag. Whoever was in charge of her PR definitely exceeded leading up to her grand return to the stage.
