The speaker tells a story about driving on a dangerous highway with construction. They chose to stay in the closing lane to save time, but a truck blocked their path and the driver seemed angry at them. The speaker reflects on how some people try to hold others back when they make decisions that others don't understand or aren't confident enough to make themselves. They advise being cautious of those who try to keep you in mediocrity and instead encourage taking opportunities to advance in life and career. Check 1, 2, 3, 4, check. There we go. There we go. There we go. There we go. Hello everybody, Johnny Renaissance here. Subscribe on the AshFlash.com. This is a quick story about keeping your perspective in life and remembering something very important. So I was driving across town yesterday on the highway known as the Beltline here in Madison, Wisconsin. And it's a dangerous highway. God, it's got to be one of the most dangerous highways around. I was almost across the Beltline and then I ran into some traffic because there was some construction happening and they had one of the lanes closed. And so it was one of these situations where the far left lane, which I was in, was closing. There were a few hundred yards left in that stretch of road and I couldn't really even see that until someone in front of me merged over and everybody, you know, is doing their due diligence and merging over as they should, you know, when they can. And I still saw a few hundred yards left in this lane. So I thought, you know what, I'm going to keep driving. I'm going to save myself five minutes here, maybe even 10 minutes here. I'm just going to use the lane that's here and I'm going to drive up. And suddenly this big gigantic truck is halfway in. He's in the lane that's just to the right of me. And then he's halfway in that lane and halfway in my lane. So he's blocking my lane. And I'm like, what is going on here? Is he trying to avoid something? Why is he edged over? And so I got up behind him and he's got one of these gigantic side mirrors because it's a gigantic truck. And he's looking at me and he's motioning to me like, what are you doing? Like he was pissed off at me because I was still in that left lane because I hadn't merged over like everybody else had. And I'm betting you've had this experience before. I've had this experience before where you're in a situation like this where you've made the decision to be a little bit more assertive, a little bit more of an individual, a lot more of an individual. And in this case, I wasn't even really thinking that way. It just sort of ended up that way. But this guy took it personally. It was like, oh my God, we all merged over, you know, hundreds of yards ago and had been sitting in extra traffic and had been slowed down. You should have to slow down too. And yesterday I just happened to think what a great metaphor for your success in your life, in your business, in your career. There are always going to be these people who are not confident enough. They're not assertive enough. They're not enough of an individual or they're just moving around in a vehicle that's too big and clumsy to be more nimble. And when they see you making a decision or making a choice that they don't understand or they're not comfortable enough with themselves or confident enough in themselves to make, they're going to try and hold you back. And you've probably already experienced this in your life. In many instances, I thought this was a great metaphor. Be careful of the 95% of people out there who insist on getting in your way so they can hold you back and keep you where they are, stifled in a sea of mediocrity. Forget about it. Get in the fast lane. Take as much space as you can. Advance your life. Advance your career. Be a good person. Operate with integrity. But use the resources and the tools and the space in front of you to get ahead. Take care everybody. Johnny Renaissance, TheAshFlash.com. Hope to have you as a subscriber soon.
