The speaker, Jessica Hefley, discusses her sabbatical and the lessons she learned from it. She was tired of constantly feeling busy and rushed in life. She made the choice to take a break and shares five things she learned from her time off. Firstly, rest is important and leads to trust and obedience. Secondly, making changes in life requires intentional effort and consistency. Life doesn't naturally slow down without making radical decisions. Thirdly, rest is essential and shouldn't be resisted. God created the Sabbath for rest and renewal. Lastly, operating from a place of rest allows for a deeper connection with God and a clearer sense of purpose. Hey guys, welcome back to the prosperity of purpose podcast. I am Jessica Hefley and What I learned from my sabbatical is what we're going to talk about today And I got back basically here's the deal. I got tired of saying life is so busy Life is so busy tired of saying it tired of feeling it Tired of being rushed all the time tired of feeling like when something came up that wasn't on my schedule I couldn't do because life is just too busy or we're one thing to the next to the next to the next and strangers in the night, you know me and my husband I Hear it all the time. I hear it from friends at church. I hear it from friends at work I hear it on TV. I hear it everywhere. I'm so high. No, they're passing Hey, how you doing? Oh, just so busy. Life's so busy. It's like I Wanted to do something about it So I did I'm sorry, we're gonna have to get used to these These noises Okay, so I did I did something about it I got to my breaking point So I'm here to help you to tell you you don't have to wait till your breaking point to make some Drastic Changes, I didn't want my life to be so busy all the time And so that was not just going to happen So let me just share kind of five ways that I learned five things. I learned from my sabbatical Okay, number one rest equals trust and Trust equals obedience. Let me explain. Okay, so I was really feeling the tug back in October Let me whoa. Whoa, let me preface this whole entire episode by saying I am NOT your boss or your Holy Spirit So I don't mind if I listen to this episode and going down there applying the friend of awesome Everything just like I said, I have to take off to it two months of work No, this was what the Holy Spirit invited me into. This is a choice. I made for me and my family You may have a different why I don't know what's going on with you. Okay, this is not a One-size-fits-all. This is just what I was when I was gonna be a living example And this is what I did and why and so I really want to share that with you I just think there's so much value and hearing other people's stories and why they do the things that they do And okay, so October we moved into our new house Which was a really really really long process. If you're watching on YouTube I'm currently recording from my closet master closet his and hers because I designed my house to hide all of my husband's crap So I've got my own closet. He's got his own closet with the door that closes behind it. Okay so it's just that season if you ever built a house before like it's This actually was a pretty decent experience, but it's just when you get to the end of it So Ready to be done and we were really blessed. We had a great rent house there. It was just like but it was just something About a space that's not yours. It's not home. It's not Permanent and it was wearing on me. And so we had just had a busy year I was involved in multiple different masterminds. I have cut back and because I'm I'm sorry, that's my question. So I'm usually really big into Usually really big into consuming consuming consuming consuming content and this year I am committed to create More content that I consume but I will always still have a coach I have committed that loud and clear as long as I'm coaching other people in the prosperity with purpose 12-week mentorship Jessica happily calm forward slash grow check it all all the options out But I'm always committed to have a coach myself personally. That is such an important piece of integrity to me And I don't ever live without it Like the ass there is there always it will come up the next layer the next thing another Another way to process something more to learn about myself Which in turn all of that all the coaching that I receive that I willingly Put myself out there to them to talk about uncomfortable hard things then gives me another way of freedom to And have the authority to coach you in It's really really beautiful. Okay, well getting off on some changes. Okay. Anyway, so it was just wearing on me It was October. We I had I think I was out of town Maybe three weekends in October and we moved it was like we moved a load the next day. I left for five days Just like I just want to be home and the Lord was whispering to me for a long time To lay down work for the rest of the year. Okay, so here's some things that went through my mind Well, we moved into a new house would you know if you've ever built a house under budget So, oh, I mean so all these things are like we needed some extra income we had some Expenses, you know the pool the things are the things so it didn't logically make sense To not move forward to gain more clients to increase the income for my family But God's ways don't make sense. Don't make logical sense It definitely makes sense in the spiritual world, but you're trying to make sense of it down here on the earthly realm It ain't gonna make sense to you But I just knew That he was that it was just kind of on the edge of breakout with over all the stress that comes with the house the moving the travel and you got to notice these things because it then it starts to then you start not feeling the passion for what you're really called to do which was my family and my coaching business and and I love those things and I was just getting this like fizzle like You know the things were coming Anyway, so it was time. That was a surefire sign that time to reprioritize because those things are things that I am Called to do I know that God has called me to do and so Red flag and taking notice of those things but rest equals trust. Okay, so meaning I had to trust and You know that will make up the income for the house and other things along the line and we're still X like we're so Incredibly blessed by plexus our network marketing company where we are in no way struggling It was just like logically didn't make sense not to keep moving forward, right? Not to keep going, but again, God's ways do not make sense, but also trust equals obedience And so I've God whispered to me multiple times To do this to rest To spend November and December settling your home settling your family into your new home establishing rhythms and routines with them Fully being present enjoying the holidays with people that you care about having people into your new home and hosting and using your gift of hospitality, which I love and Resting your brain and heart and mind is physically spirit soul and body like to So that was number one rest people struck number two change does not just happen We are peaceful or peaceful powerful presence we get to change build what we want Okay, you keep thinking. Oh laughs will slow down Have you said before let me ask you this Oh life will slow down after this Oh, but let me just get past this part and then life will slow down Okay, has it slowed down? How's it slow down for you? without you making Radical decisions and making radical changes. Has your life moved down? Or is it just been another thing or something else or put out this fire and now there's another Okay change does not just happen and it Isn't easy To stop a rolling train like it's going to take some time to slow that baby down It is going to take a minute. It is going to take some all-hands-on-deck Your spouse, but your spouse may not be on board in certain seasons You know other people may not in board, but it's so it's going to take Consistency being focused on the life that you want to create on the feelings that you want to feel and it may not be easy but it will be so worth to make some drastic changes For example, like I also know I knew in my heart that my husband needed this too Like we've we've bought Arkansas sportsmen and opened graybeard ammo graybeard.com. Go check it out We've got guns tactical supplies ammo the works So we have gone from my husband being home with our family all the time to being gone every day Starting and developing and really creating these amazing places. They're an awesome. They're not just gun stores. Like they are places for and People to come and be that's to have a place to hang out. There's also we have some jiu-jitsu gym Connected there is a non-profit. They we have a gunsmith like we do these like community activities like it is a It's a bigger thing it's a ministry and But he was on the edge of burnout too. And so just me putting my foot down about some things like not in a Controlling way actually was a gentle way of leading by example of me resting me slowing down it's almost like it gave him the permission to do that to and gave us more meaningful conversations and connections and Clearer purpose on what we want the future to look like for our businesses and for our family So it but it doesn't just happen. I cannot stress that enough and this is a concept We teach you very much in prosperity with purpose mentorship because we work hard and we play hard around here Okay, we I'm not I don't go in there and teach you to just take a break But what happened to me was a very meaningful and and very purposeful But honestly, we're good just a second when we got designed us to rest us crazy humans who keep like What's it called fisting straight fisting? Like we keep resisting that like God created the Sabbath for us to rest He didn't intend for us to work work work work work work work work work work crash and burn No, or like work work work work work work go on a vacation sleep the whole time come back from the vacation and still feel like We need a vacation from our vacation. No when we are operating in true rhythms of rest and True rhythms of renewal. We don't have to we don't crash and burn like we're operating from a place of rest And when the Bible talks about how the Sabbath actually started at sundown Started at the end of the day started with rest First and that's how we are intended to operate When we can go back to remember who we are who's we are what our purpose is Back to our connection with God back to our and there's like scientific literal things like our body needs physical rest Your mind needs to get off the phone the scroll in the TV the meaningless junk and truly have rest so number three Some people are not going to understand this was one of my fears is when that's I had coaching clients Like I had planned to work through you know all of you all in November all December and they had paid for certain months or paid for the whole year up front and And I had to tell them that I had to have conversations with them with them in that but with the beauty of it is I taught on What I was called to do I taught on rest I taught on rhythm and everybody was school about it I just bumped their I just bumped their membership back a month or everybody Like when you do what God has called you to do he works everything out You just have to be obedient to him But some people are not going to understand some people who are on the go-go-go-go-go-go-go bus will think that you're lazy Will not know they may judge you they may not understand and they tell you to get get with it get to work Moving and but this is this is a personal journey for everybody and I am here to teach people to prosper Prosperity with purpose and so this is an important element of it and the beautiful thing is is when I rested Oh, I'll talk about get ahead of myself. That's number five. Okay number four Oh, let me go back to number three when some people don't understand the beauty of it Is however that your living example of your life being different? Speaks for itself So anybody that may have judged you like I've made a post And I make it around all the daytime each year. There was something like here is your permission to Cancel your plans last-minute Pile up on the couch with your family watch a Christmas movie and not feel bad about it I think sometimes especially in the holiday season where it's like This Christmas party I do this and this and this and this and this and why I Mean sometimes your best. Yes, is if your kid is losing it or you're losing it on your kids is to hug them take your shoes back off as you're going out the door and everyone yelling at each other and Connect and rest and it's okay Somebody may not understand why you had to cancel and that is okay But when they see the fruit of your life being different the productivity of a person who lives on purpose that will speak for itself and they're gonna want some of that and their life's gonna be better when they have some of that because there will be they'll be able to rest will be present with themselves and Truly live out their calling with confidence and ease again what I am so passionate about. Okay, number four, um Technology depletes rest. I found this incredibly fascinating My kids are home for Christmas break We didn't leave the house much at all I mean my husband did some but I was like we went to church We went to see the walker movie and And so but it was in some days were I felt incredibly rested here's the difference like some days like I played a Game with my family. I read a lot in my Bible. I and a little bit of exercise And did a little bit of journaling Had good conversations with my family at the table and those days I went to bed. So Rested like rejuvenated My cup felt full. I was noticing some of like a couple of other days at the end of the day I told Rob this I'm like What I don't feel rest I did nothing today like literally sat on the couch the entire day Scrolling my phone watching dumb movies with the kids and at the end of the day, I was like Like what what we thought, you know should be restful when you're literally feet up on the couch all day long Eating and watching scrolling mindless things you think that would make you feel Rested and it didn't and that was really interesting to me to notice the difference Okay, man, I want and I want to really encourage you guys to notice the difference in your rhythm So you don't have to take two months off to figure this out So sometimes then we can do a whole another podcast on these nervous system and probing mechanisms like sometimes people may like play Nintendo or Sometimes I scroll funny memes and Those things that are are enjoyable to them, but they spend long We spend long periods of time on them at the end. We just feel like Brain dead, but I am NOT a better person Nothing about my life Was it really restful or was this like an escape mechanism for me? so just for you to notice and really really notice the things that you do that are restful that Also feel rejuvenating Also feel restful for your soul also feel prosperous also make you feel good and if you're a toxic We're not judging over here if you're a Serial over worker resting of any kind may make you feel guilty inside at first or not Productive or like you may be doing something. So be gentle with yourself be curious with yourself, but Notice if you're one of those people that like work Until you get sick because I do think sometimes I don't know if God does this Like he'll put you back like if you do not rest, there's some way That you will end up resting whether you like it or not And so you might as well do it doing things you enjoy that will contribute to your life and the life of others some Technologies sometimes deplete trust take notice of that and the number five. I Came back from my sabbatical rest whatever you want to call it with a renewed purpose. Some people have this Fear that if they rest or someone on their team rest or they encourage someone to rest that they're like Go take a nap and never get out of bed They will go rest love it and then never come back to work. And for me, it was complete opposite And and it was this. Oh, I enjoyed it so much Like I was so grateful to fully be present with my kids during Christmas break I was so grateful to sleep in I was so grateful for some mornings I was so grateful to bake bread and cook some new things and we're gonna talk about baking bread. You stay tuned okay, we're doing all the They're all I am the bread of life. Oh, we're gonna unpack that. Thank you. Okay. Oh That's not the right one we're gonna unpack that let's try that again I Learned these hilarious. Okay, moving on. Um, where was I? Renewed purpose Because my brain had the space and the capacity and didn't feel oh Here's what it was. It didn't feel under pressure. It wasn't like deadline deadline deadline. I've got to create this course I've got to create this class. I've got to create this post. I've got to meet this goal Then I've got to be marketing to this I think it was a rest from the constant shame cycle We sometimes feel for not doing enough or not being where we thought we should be or whatever fill in the blank But if that is on your shoulders all the time I invite you to let yourself have a break from that and there was a lot of productive Beauty that came from that was I was really surprised at how much creativity came to me While I was resting creativity about my purpose. So for example, so sometimes you're on a deadline or if you If you if you procrastinate you do not have a procrastination problem everybody you have an emotional regulation problem okay, you're avoiding avoiding avoiding because you probably don't feel like you can do it good enough or and it won't be What you hoped it would be or you'll feel like a failure or it won't be you know, whatever If that's what we procrastinate so many people are like identify I'm a procrastinator, but I get it done and then you're like get this thrill from doing it at the last minute But really it is a I really didn't know I was really really surprised just the creativity. So for example, you know every once in a while and pick up my journal or get out my planner and kind of doodle and dream or Laura's downloads like podcast episode ideas for the future or things that I want to teach people or ways he's speaking to me or things that I'm learning or things that I'm processing processing and I would go like I was doing the outline of how to get off the hot mess Express course, which is the mini course Everybody needs it is a Incredible price point. This is for every single person how to get off the hot mess Express mini course I have that and then I also have my prosperity with purpose 12-week mentorship, which is my Boom baby, if you are an overwhelmed business owner you've got to be in that very strategic 12-week mentorship that has coaching and teaching and weekly personal accountability and it'll walk you through how to Very few exclusive one-on-one spots, but anyways, I get my journal out and before my sabbatical I knew what the Lord was calling me to do after my break But it was just really fun to put it out and got him download ideas of how to put the course together Some more things to incorporate to add value to my mentorship like and it just felt fun It didn't feel like Pressured it didn't feel Rushed it felt Probably how it is supposed to feel in Partnership with the Lord not me trying to do it on myself, but him saying hey, let's do this together This is what I want to do through you to help some other people for you. This is how um, I want you to help other people be prosperous on purpose and So anyways, this is really special. So I had a renewed purpose. So five little lessons Let me repeat him again. Number one is rest equals trust and trust equals obedience Number two change does not just happen it will take work number three Some people won't understand when you rest number four technology depletes rest And number five when you truly practice this And you are leaning into the Lord on what he is calling you to do and enjoying the rest You will come back with a renewed purpose So this is something really important that I teach just having the rhythms having a day off each week having other things that really really really really feel your cut because your purpose on this world is important and it's also important to know when that starts to feel really heavy or you're Avoiding things or procrastinating things or not having the passion that you used to One simple easy quick ways to check in and when's last time you rest in? When's the last time you turned your phone off for a day? And again, let's be curious and compassionate Let's not be like, oh my gosh, I'm so bad at resting. Here's another thing. I'm bad at. Oh my gosh This is so I looked at my phone I should have a fun way Start with wherever you need to start if you need a two-hour chunk to take a nap on Tuesdays. Here's your permission If you need Friday evenings to turn your phone off be fully present with your family for a family pizza movie night There's your if you need to once a quarter go away overnight And be have a retreat with the Lord and once a year do that for like three or four nights where you go to a Spa you go on walks you journal you have zero agenda zero agenda We always have agendas don't we like go with no agenda but to hear from him and enjoy him and be filled up and be rested, but I Was tired of saying life is so busy and I know you're tired Of life being so busy so my I invite you I am here I am the coach for the overwhelmed business owner and I have some resources that will really really look help you We'll see on the inside and we'll see you next week
