The cafeteria is being renovated into the Wolf Cafe, which was originally planned to open in the fall semester but got delayed. The renovation cost $1.2 million. The cafeteria had outdated facilities, including a blending bar that will be installed. The blending bar will have a self-serve machine that blends shakes and smoothies in about a minute. It also has a large LCD screen and a grab-and-go system where people can scan and deduct their payment from their account. The cafeteria renovation is expected to be completed after spring break. The cafeteria also had a Pi Day event with games and activities. Wow, what's the deal with the cafeteria? And do you want to blend, sip, and chill? I'm your host, Isabel. And I'm your co-host, Alex. Let's get up front. So, yeah. First, let's address some of the events and clubs that we had talked about in episode one. One of those being chess club. So, chess club doesn't exist, even though there technically was a flyer up about it last semester. We know that a student tried to get a chess club going, and you supposedly need five people to join to officially have it. No one else joined, so that's why chess club doesn't exist right now. But if you are interested in actually creating a chess club, if you're into chess in the first place, then go ahead, because we have heard that there is a few students that are actually interested in chess and making a chess club. So, yeah, get that going. Get a few students to, you know, go and do chess. So, do you need five people before you bring it up as an idea, or can you just bring the idea up to, and who do you mention it to? I'm pretty sure you do need five people in order to bring up the full thing. I'm not too sure. I think you just want to talk to Student Life. Student Life about that, so that they can get that going. Cool. That's all I know about the chess club right now, so if you're interested in doing that, then, yeah, just like I said, you know, get a few people to join with you and get the club going. The other thing is, we want to talk about, so we talked about how this has technically been dead ever since 2019, this podcast. That wasn't the truth? You talked about it. No, I'm just kidding. Yeah, we got severely fact-checked. Yeah, yeah, it actually, it's been kind of dead ever since 2021. That's the last time they officially actually did this podcast, and it wasn't actually called Upfront, it was just called Rooftop, so there you go. If you guys actually want to check out some of the older episodes, we do have that up on our actual front page, where you can go take a look at some of those old episodes. What was Upfront? Because Upfront was something else, right? Upfront was actually what they used to call the newsletter. How long ago was that? We have actually an edition right here from Upfront, from the newsletter. So this says fall of 1987. Wow. So that has been a very long time. Yeah, a hot minute. Yeah, pretty nice standard that they handed out. Can we see that? Yeah, you can take a look. Yeah, so there's that, and the other thing we also were addressing about is the pool tournament. That is actually at 12 o'clock, and I think that is still being held on the 21st here. So next week? Next week, yeah. That would technically be Tuesday, because Monday would be the 20th. Cool. So yeah, make sure you go check that out. Yeah, 21st, 12 p.m. to 1 p.m. So yeah, make sure to check that out. That's actually also going to be hosted in the game room, because that's where they have the pool tournaments. Right. Yeah, go to the game room if you want to take on that. And another thing is the eSports. The eSports, yes. So that club does exist. As of right now, all we know is that they just haven't found a time to meet, but it does exist. So if you are interested in joining the eSports club, then go ahead and check that out and reach out to them for that. Right, and also we have yet to find out if, like what, what did you say, like what types of systems they use and consoles? I'm pretty sure it's just PC. I'm not too sure. I don't think they would be using console, because that would kind of require, you know, a lot to be, you know, for console. I mean, unless everyone has their own console and brought it in, but that's all I know of as of right now. Cool, so on to our main topic. Yeah, why are they renovating the cafeteria? Yeah, what's the deal with the cafeteria? Because I've heard some really cool things you told me about the blender bar that they're supposed to install in there, right? Yeah, that is actually going to be pretty good. So if you guys want to check out this article that we will be skipping over, make sure to go to the front page, FRCC.com, where you can check out the article, Why Are They Renovating the Cafeteria? And that was by Seth, so make sure to go check him out in this article that they did. So yeah, last summer, FRCC Westminster began the process of renovating the cafeteria into the Wolf Cafe. While originally planned to open for the fall semester of 2022, delays in the design process led to the date being pushed back to the beginning of the spring semester in January. Still, though, the cafe has yet to open, leading a number of students to question not only why the completion is coming so late, but whether the $1.2 million renovation was even necessary in the first place. Think about that, $1.2 million. That's yeah, expensive. And it's actually not like a large area, is it? They didn't renovate the entire cafeteria area. They just renovated the... Also, that was a quote from Seth's cafeteria article that Alex just read. He goes on to say that the state-funded mechanical project lagged in funding, design, ordering equipment, and was on a different completion path. So why was it being renovated in the first place? It was just severely outdated? I'm looking at the pictures of it right now. Yeah, I think it was severely outdated. I mean, yeah, some of these pictures, 1980. Wow, yeah. Take a look at some of these pictures, man. Those are some old pictures right there. So, outdated, which is, yeah, I guess one of the main things. And the really big picture, right, that I was talking about, the Blend, Sip, and Chill, is actually going to be a for-real kind of yogurt machine, which is kind of cool, in my opinion. So we actually have it here, is what they call the self-serve blending bar, which is like shakes and smoothies. Which, I mean, that's kind of cool if you think about it. One of these machines, they're going to have it in our cafeteria here. And it looks like they only have the mini blending bar. It's not the actual automated self-cleaning one, it's just the mini one. But what it does is it blends in about a minute, which is pretty quick. Automated sanitizing in the interior cleaning system, which is very nice, given the fact that, you know, it's still kind of COVID, it's kind of the big thing. So a lot of times it's like... Also, like, how much traffic is it going to get? Yeah, a lot, right? That's why blending in about a minute is probably the biggest thing about this, is why, you know, they want to have it. Because for traffic reasons, I know a lot of people are going to be wanting to use this. So that's kind of nice. It also has a large LCD screen, which has the agent content where you can select it and all that kind of stuff. Cool. So yeah, the only problem about that is hopefully it doesn't get broken. Because I know a lot of people probably don't know how to use like big screens or... Well, I'm assuming that if they would put it on such a large campus that it would be user friendly. User friendly, yeah. Also, I'm looking at Seth's article and it's supposed to be the theory behind it is a grab and go. And I've actually worked at different companies where they have these models like implemented in their cafeteria where you just like show up and you grab a drink and you scan it. And sometimes it'll be linked to like your employee account or your student account. Yeah. And it'll just deduct it from that balance. And if, you know, so I'm really looking forward to that, actually, because that means that, you know, during lunchtime or whatever, I don't have to leave campus and go grab something. Yeah, I feel the same way, yeah. And like I said, this for real machine is like probably the number one talked about thing right now for this cafeteria because having something like this is quite, you know, insane. I mean, it looks like it's very fancy. And I know a lot of kids these days, they just go to the cafe here. Yeah. They usually just get like a coffee or something. I mean, that's what I sometimes do. Yeah, or like noodles. Exactly. But now having this here, that's really, that's big enough. It looks so dope. And it's called the for real. Yeah. And yeah, that's kind of a cool name. So if you want to, when this is open, right, which I have heard that this supposedly was supposed to be open before spring break. We don't know the exact date now. So it could be after spring break because we now know that most of the actual like items here, I think, is what we said was spring, like being brought into this. So, yeah, like taking orders, you know, as they're going to order the food and stuff. Now we should be receiving slash stock when the orders over break as well. We only know. But for the for real machine, if you do want to use that machine, just be ready to have a line, you know, be ready to be in a line because I tell you, people like the students here, they're going to line up to use that. Yeah, I'm not looking forward to that. I know that for the first few weeks, it's going to be like that. But hopefully after that, hopefully. Yeah. So, yeah, that's going to be a very interesting thing to look out for. Look, I just found the gas station down the road has one. Really? Yeah. Oh, yeah. I've actually I've never heard of this machine. I think I've seen them at the Mavericks and the coming goes. Yeah. Yeah. But I thought they were milkshakes. I never knew they made like frozen yogurt. Yeah. Yeah. But that's cool because frozen yogurt is delicious. It is. I've had frozen yogurt only a couple of times, but oh, my God, that stuff is pretty delicious. Yeah. Anyways, so there's the deal with the cafeteria. Pi Day was yesterday, right? Pi Day was yesterday. Yeah, that was a big turnout. Big, big, big turnout. Yeah, it was. We had a few things going on. So over here at the SOC table, we had kind of a game that they were kind of playing where you had to basically guess the Pi number and stuff like that. So you got to write your name and take a guess and put it in a little jar. And the closest guess would basically win. Do you know what the actual number of Pi is? I do not know the actual number. Actually, I know it's 3.14156 something. I kind of had to like kind of memorize that when I was in high school. That was one of the things we did in class, but I don't remember the Pi number. So I actually just Googled, and what's the purpose of celebrating Pi, Pi Day? And the math, what's its purpose? Well, for someone that's as involved with math as I am, I should know this. Yeah, right. I think, yeah. I mean, yeah, it's a, I don't know, it's probably a lot of reasons why. Oh, look. Pi Day is about revisiting the history and significance of Pi, highlighting the beauty and elegance of mathematics and promoting math literacy. You know, I actually watched a video on all the places where Pi comes up, and it's least expected. Yeah, right. Well, I can't name them because I can't remember. But yeah, Pi Day was cool. Did you get pizza or did you get a pie? I did not. So that was the funny thing is I didn't realize, but also down at the math, the math center where they have math, that's where they were having the pizza, right? Yeah, at the math department, not the math. Yeah, that's where they were having the whole pizza party going on. But at the SOC table, that's where they were actually having Pi. So that was kind of cool because I think you just get it from King Soopers, if I'm correct. Guaranteed freshness for you. Got a little box, it was a pie. Yeah. Strawberry, lemon. Chocolate. Chocolate. I tried the lemon one, and I'm not going to lie, I wasn't really a fan of it. You don't like key lime pie? No, I think, I don't know. Dude. It just didn't really hit me. Dude, that's my favorite kind of pie. I should have gone with the chocolate because it looked like a chocolate chip one that they had. I probably should have gone with that because that probably would have been much more enjoyable because who doesn't like chocolate? Right. I guess I should have gone with that one in general. Yeah, Pi Day was definitely a success. And we also did have St. Patrick's Day today, the whole event for that. Is St. Patrick's Day today? Let's see. If I'm not wrong, St. Patrick's Day is on Saturday, right? It's tomorrow. It's tomorrow, okay. You guys, they did the event today? Yeah, they had the event today. Where was it? It was here, in this little place over here. I was working. You were working? Yeah, I was actually over here setting up for the podcast, but yeah, they had food out, they had games that you could play. You know where they have the rubber ducky in the water? Yeah. You have to fish it out and whatever number you get, that's the game you play. Oh. That's what they had, I think, out here, which was kind of nice. Dope. Yeah, they had a few people come in and eat some food if you just wanted to do that, so that was kind of nice. But that's the only thing I know of where they did St. Patrick's Day event today. Here, I don't know if they did anything else for St. Patrick's Day anywhere else here. Very cool. Yeah, that was really nice that they did stuff like that. The next thing I wanted to kind of talk about was, as I mentioned, right, you can go back and take a look at some of the old podcasts that they did here at the WorldCast. And there was one episode they did where it was on a Zoom call. It was odd. That was very intriguing to watch. It was odd, that's all I have to say. It was very odd. Very awkward, yeah. Yeah, it was awkward. Yeah. Look, I think because that was... So it was during COVID, so they didn't really have the opportunity to meet in person. Yeah, exactly. And already having like, you know, most teachers already were like, use Zoom to have the calls for school. And they already probably thought that, oh, if we have Zoom, we can record it. And that's just a really great option just to do a podcast. So that's what they did. They did a podcast on a Zoom meeting. Yeah, it didn't work out. It didn't work out, yeah. I mean, a few takeaways was they didn't have an intro. They weren't really talking about any of the events that were happening, you know, for Front Range here, for Front Range Community College. And they also just didn't really have an outro. They didn't really say like their names or anything like that. And yeah, I think the organization way, it was not the best. But I can't really blame them because once again, like I said, COVID, you know, kind of really had a big effect. Right. And so they probably didn't really know what to talk about, you know, or maybe most of the events, there wasn't maybe any events going on that week. There probably, yeah, there probably wasn't much going on other than COVID. I doubt, you know, any events were being held. Yeah. So they did the best that they could with what they had. They did the best that they could. But I mean, yeah, there was a few parts like where they were trying to, they were changing the background of their Zoom. Yeah, that was funny. Funny and interesting. And they kind of did that for like a good solid two minutes. So if you guys want to go check out that episode, that's WolfCast episode 19. So once again, go to the front page FRCG.com and go ahead and check that one out if you are interested in seeing a Zoom version of the podcast. So make sure you go check that out. Touche. Yeah, right. And yeah, Spring Break is coming up. When is Spring Break? So we technically have the ending, so the ending of this week. And then we have two more weeks, I believe, of school. Two more weeks. No, I'm pretty sure it's like, if I'm not mistaken, it's the week after next. The week after next? Yeah. I thought it was like two more weeks of Spring Break. Check your calendar because I'm pretty sure it's like the 26th to the 27th. And I only remember that because I was looking at it online. I'm not sure if I have a full calendar. Yeah, it's from the 26th to the 4th or 3rd of April. Yeah, okay, so there you go. So that's when Spring Break is coming up. Yeah, the 26th to the 4th. You get back to class on the 3rd of April. Okay. Yeah, so that'll be cool. One more week. One more half. Yeah, I'm really looking forward to that. Well, I know a lot of students are looking forward to that, but they have to make sure that they're staying on top of their work. Right. I know, and I think my public speaking teacher has definitely said this enough, but a few times where it's like, you know, procrastination, like you can feel it creeping up on some students. Right. So, yeah, make sure you're on top of your work. If there's anything that has to be submitted before Spring Break, make sure you're doing that. So realistically, you can go into Spring Break and not feeling stressed out about anything, right? Or if you still have work to do over Spring Break, yeah, try to find time to really, you know, do that. And, yeah, staying up on top of school. But other than that, you know, yeah, definitely have a great, you know, Spring Break. I don't know if we talked about this in the first episode, but are you planning on doing anything for Spring Break? I really wanted to, like, get out of town or do something fun. I don't think that's going to happen, but I'm hoping to be able to, like, get ahead on some of my assignments. I have projects that I'm working on, so I'll be doing that. Yeah, I'm not going to be busy with trying to get ahead because that's, like, my type of person, you know. How do you deal with procrastination? I think the best way I deal with procrastination is I just try to make a list of the stuff that I need to be doing. Because if you don't really have a list, you're just off the top of your head. You're like, oh, I should just do that and that, but you're not really organized. Like, really try to be organized and try to have a list where I can have, like, each thing written down so that I can checkmark it off. And the way I think about it is, like, if the teacher kind of gives out an assignment, like, on Monday and it's not due until the next Monday, I try to just, like, knock it out of the park, you know, and just try to get it done and over with. So I'm not, like, oh, working a little bit on Wednesday and then I kind of work a little bit on Friday and then I get to that point where I just really feel like I'm procrastinating on the assignment. Like, just try to sit down for a day. Try to get that one assignment done. Focus on it. If you can't get it done in a day, then try to, okay, I'll try to finish it tomorrow or the next day. But don't just keep on saying I'll finish it the next and the next and the next. Just try to, you know, have a timeline where you actually finish the assignment. That's one way I try to focus on procrastination. I personally try and stay at least, like, a week ahead of schedule. That way, if anything happens, I know that I'm good, you know. Exactly. Yeah. You never know what could happen. Yeah, exactly. No, that's definitely one of them. I'm personally not going to be doing too much for spring break. I'm probably going to try to hang out with some friends, but really just kind of relax, you know. What do you do? Like, during your spare time, do you have any hobbies? I mean, I play games sometimes, but I don't know. I'm definitely going to try to just work out. You know, I think that's one thing I'm going to try to do over spring break is work out, so I'm still focusing on myself. Yeah. And hoping that I'm still—my mind is just in the right mindset, so when I come back to school, I'm still ready to just finish off the semester. That's what I'll probably do. But, yeah, hang out with friends, maybe play games. Like you said, if I have work to get done, I'm probably going to work a little bit on my L.A. stuff, so that's probably going to be a big part of it. Cool. L.A. stuff. What L.A. stuff? What's that? So, actually, I have my—it's kind of basically our final essay. Oh. So, yeah, I'm going to be working on that a little bit, or at least trying to research more about that and maybe start writing a little bit about it. But that's one thing I'm definitely going to be trying to focus on for spring break. Cool. So that's going to be a big one. Yeah, that'll be dope. So, yeah, I'll make sure to stay on top of your stuff for spring break. And, yeah, the other thing we really want to talk about is our TikTok page. If you have yet to follow our TikTok page— Do so. Yeah, make sure you're doing that because, I mean, we've got some great TikToks coming out right now. And if you are actually following us on our Instagram page, we'll also be posting on the Reels there. Yeah, our TikToks are super dope, you know. It's a good way to interact with us. Let us know your thoughts if you ever— And actually, your recent TikTok that you uploaded was the best study spots here on Westminster. I feel like our campus is pretty big as far as having, like, study spots. You know, I went down to, I think it's Level A. Have you ever been down there? It's where they host a lot of the nursing programs. And I really like that patio area in the back. Yeah, and I think it was, like, Monday or Tuesday that I was out there, and the sun was out, and it was really cool. It wasn't windy. It wasn't, like, super hot. But I was chilling out there, and I was like, well, this is cool. This place has so many good areas where you can just, like, sit down and focus on your work without, you know— I don't know about you, but, like, studying at home for me, sometimes it's very difficult. Yeah, I actually—I do feel the same way sometimes. Yeah. I don't know why. It's like—I think it's kind of, like, in your mind. Like, when you're at school, you're at school for a reason to, like, get work done. Right. While when I'm at home, sometimes my mind is saying to myself, like, oh, this is the place where you relax. And you sleep. Yeah, you sleep. And then you get tired, and now you want to take a nap. Yeah, so I feel the same way. I feel like sometimes when it's like I need to study or do something else, I come to this school to do that. Yeah. One of the actual—one of the spots I found is—it's also downstairs, but it's in between, like, the B site over here. It's like the C and all that kind of stuff. It's in between. But it's, like, these three, like, tables that you see at restaurants. I don't know what they call those. The Boots? Yeah, kind of like the Boots. Yeah, it's like three Boots, but they're, like, tucked away in a little corner where, like— I think I know where you're—they're next to the science department. I think so. I think so, right? Next to the gym area? Yeah, yeah. Yeah, it's like three little Boots, but they have, like, lights. Yeah, they have them throughout campus. Like, there are several of them. Yeah, but these three are, like, kind of alone. Yeah. And I'm telling you, like, that was one of the spots where I was like, damn, I usually, like—I was questioning, like, why I didn't see anyone there. Because, like, those—that might be a good study spot if you want to go check that out. For sure. But, I mean, again, you can find all of this stuff on TikTok, on our Instagram Reels. Or I also made a study playlist. Did you check that out? Yeah, I think I just recently—yeah, I recently saw that, yeah. The study playlist. Dude, I—you know, it's actually a lot more difficult than you would think to include, like, several whatever audio clips on there. But I don't know about you, man. I know that you said you like studying to lo-fi, but I'm more like— Lo-fi is where it's at. Dude, sometimes, sometimes. I feel like I used to do a lot of lo-fi. Really? Yeah, but, like, nowadays I'm more like—I really enjoy, like, some cello. I mean, yeah, I'm not really going to, like, you know, hate anybody for listening to what they think. Whenever it gets you, like, at your best for studying, like, definitely listen to it. Like, if you have a habit for studying, then, yeah, really, like, stick with it. For me, like I said, lo-fi is definitely my habit. Like, when I'm listening to lo-fi, I'm relaxed, but at the same time, my mind is going where I'm like, I can study to that. But if you like cello and stuff like that— Do you ever study to, like, rain music or, like, anything like that? See, not really, no. Dude! I feel like there is some people that do that. Like, I remember someone told me they used to study to, like, lightning. Like, I get how people say that. To lightning? Yeah, it's so weird. Well, like a thunderstorm, maybe. Maybe, but, like, a lot of people know how to say, like, oh, like, lightning, like, helps me sleep. Okay. Like, I don't—yeah, I don't get how people can say that. Like, lightning does not help me sleep. But there is some people out there that say lightning helps me sleep. I mean, because a lot of people, they have to have noise. Like, noise helps them sleep. Yeah, and I'm actually going to plug a really cool website. It's called mynoise.net. Have you ever—have you checked that out? I have not yet. So, it's a website, and this guy goes just throughout the world, and he, like, records these natural sounds. And he has, like, sounds of anything. So he has, like, a Japanese garden. Okay. Yeah, an Irish coast, distant thunder, like, just the most random things that you can—like, white noise. And it's really cool. I use this when I'm studying. Yeah, I think I had an app on my phone that I actually recently got rid of. But it was an app, same thing. It was, like—it was noise that you could have on the background while you're studying or sleeping. And it was an incredible app. And I remember for a short period of time, it was, like, I just needed to sleep, but I just couldn't. And so I'd, like, put on a noise where—whether that was, like, they had a beach sound, or, like, the waves were coming. Because I know a lot of people like to hear that. Or rain. Or, like you said, it was, like, a Japanese garden going on. Or you had, like, a fire pit noise. I know a lot of people like that. But, yeah, I used the app for a little while, and then I just stopped using it because I just totally forgot about it. And I'd get back on the app. And then they asked for a subscription. They were, like, subscribe to our subscription. I was, like, oh, no thanks. And then— Oh, no, this one is completely free. You can—yeah, you can buy the guy a coffee. He has an app on—or, like, a link on there where if you want to buy him a coffee, you can. Oh, yeah, I know. Yeah, yeah, yeah. I know about that kind of stuff. Definitely check it out if it's free. Because the app that I'm talking about, it used to be free, and now it's not free. And you only get one sound to use in the whole entire app. And it's not, like, the waves of the ocean. It's more of, like, lake—you know, like, the lake sound. Oh, wow, I'm sad. Look, his most recent post was on the 24th of this year, and he said that he's taking a break to rest. So who knows how long that break will be. Wow. Yeah, this guy is awesome. His name is Stephan. Okay. Stephan. Yeah, if you're the type of person that likes to have noise or just any music in general, whether that's lo-fi or cello or anything like that, yeah, leave a comment down below and tell us, you know, what your study music is, and we'll reply back to you on, you know, talking about it. So, yeah, but, you know, I know that kind of stuff. But, yeah, for me, like I said, I'm about the lo-fi, and I know you're not. You're about the lo-fi. Seriously, lo-fi. I'm telling you, that's really bad. Dude, it's dope. I'm telling you, I did it for a long time, and then I was like, you know what, I need to switch up the scenes here. I like me some cello. Yeah. Have you heard the cover of, like, God, it's a popular pop song. No, I have not. Oh, God, I'm drawing a blank. Well, anyway, cello is dope. Yeah. So, cool. Well, that pretty much covers it all. We have other articles up on our website, if you'd like to check out the front page. Yeah, Oscars week was last week. Right. So, if you are interested to take a look at some of those articles, they're great. They're amazing. So, go check those out. Watch the movies that we had. One of them, I think I may have said this in episode one, but the new Puss in Boots movie, that's a really, really good movie I'd get to check out. And if you do have Peacock, it is now officially on Peacock. So, I'm very interested in checking out that. So, yeah, take a look at some of the other articles that we have. Any upcoming events that we might have? I know we talked about the pool tournament. The pool tournament. March 22nd is National Goof Off Day. What does that mean? I'm not too sure. It's supposed to have the SOC table from 1130 a.m. to 1 p.m. So, that sounds quite interesting. If you want to go check that out on March 22nd, do that. And then, like you said, March 27th is spring break. At the Boulder County, they're having book swaps. So, you can find your new spring read through the 17th. So, wow. Okay. You can stop by, return, then pick up. How does this work? It sounds like you bring in a book and you get a book back. So, I think it's like a swap, maybe, like a meeting where other people go. Yeah. You can swap a book with someone else, maybe. So, I don't know. I know they do that with plants. With plants? Yeah, like at plants, when they have plant stores or shops or somewhere like that, they do, like, plant swaps where you go meet other people and you can, like, swap a plant out for another plant that they have. So, that happened that past Tuesday. I think that was also yesterday, because today is actually, oh, so that was two days ago. Yeah. I did see that where they had also free pizza for that. Once again, I don't think the kids actually went to, like, you know, sit down and actually take a look at the colors. They just went for the free pizza. Same. Do you want to howl? Oh, sure. I guess we're howling. Do you? For real? I don't really want to do it. I'll be for a little. Woo. That was pretty. I'm just going to pause it there. Dude.
