This book of the Lord shall not depart from my mouth, but I shall meditate in it day and night, that I may observe to do according to all that is written in it. For then I will make my way prosperous, and then I will have good success. Amen. Today we bring you the second part of our Easter series titled, Chronicles of the Cross. Chronicles of the Cross. And in this second episode, we examine the subject, A Plot of Death. A Plot of Death. Our scripture reading shall be taken from 1 Peter chapter 1 verse 18 to 20. 1 Peter chapter 1 verse 18 to 20. I will be reading from the New Living Translation. For you know that God paid a ransom to save you from the empty life you inherited from your ancestors. And it was not paid with mere gold or silver, which lost their value. It was the precious blood of Christ, the sinless, the spotless lamp of God. God chose him as your ransom long before the world began. But now, in these last days, he has been revealed for your sake. The Lord add his blessings to the hearing and reading of his word. Thanks be to God. Amen. Chronicles of the Cross. A Plot of Death. If you have ever attended the burial service of one who was so young, dear and loving, the question that will hang on your mind is why him or her? Why would the cold hands of death decide to pounce on the innocent life of one who was so adorable with a promising future, one who was so cherished by all? It makes no sense and no explanation on a switch to pain. This probably could have been our mood standing at the foot of the cross, seeing the bruised, lifeless, naked body of Jesus hanging there on the cross. For what did he do to deserve such a gruesome death? He was so young and at the prime of his age. He was the love of many, bringing joy into the lives of several others. For everywhere he went, he had this testimony of doing good. Reading the scriptures, it always amazes me how, in the space of a few hours, Jesus was betrayed, arrested, tried six times, mocked, beaten and crucified. And so, between the prayer at Gethsemane and the crucifixion at Golgotha, it all took less than a day to execute. From all indications, one can see a hated hand turning the knobs and hastening the process of his death. Back then, looking at the betrayal, the treachery and the gruesome nature of this whole ordeal, one would be quick to say it was no other than the devil at work. However, now, when we look a little closer, we see differently. Before Jesus ever walked the earth as man, it was written of him in the volumes of the books what his purpose was to be. It was God's remedy to a problem yet to be created by man, sin. For he was declared in Revelation 13, verse 8, as the Lamb who was slain before the foundations of the world. In short, his coming to earth was all planned and willed by the Father. His miraculous birth, growth, ministry, and ultimately his graphic death and glorious resurrection were already scripted by the Father. Nothing in his life was a mere coincidence. And so, he came because he alone held the keys to man's freedom from the shackles of sin. He alone could pay, once and for all, the death man owed. He alone was the perfect holy sacrifice that could permanently deal away with the penalty of death caused by man's sin. And so, for this cause, it became necessary that a King of Glory comes to earth and dies a painful and shameful death for all of mankind, that he might die and we may live, that he will be our substitution, our restitution, our redeemer, our savior, and our deliverer. Out of his immeasurable love for you and me, and his unflinching obedience to the Father, he willingly subjected himself to this plot of death so that you and I might be saved. Precious one, may the essence of this plot of death, the Father's search for Jesus, his beloved Son, never elude you and me. May the hefty price Jesus paid on the cross never be in vain. God richly bless you. Let us take our memory verse for today. Our memory verse is taken from 1 Peter 1, verse 20. 1 Peter 1, verse 20. I will be reading from a New Living Translation. God chose him as a ransom long before the world began, but now in his last days he has been revealed for your sake. God chose him as a ransom long before the world began, but now in his last days he has been revealed for your sake. Amen. Shall we please share a word of prayer? Heavenly Father, we thank you for the blessing of this truth. Thank you for your perfect plot of death that we may be saved. We pray that these gestures of your love through Christ's painful death would never be in vain in our lives. In Jesus's name, amen. Beloved in the Lord, as we begin our day with a heart of gratitude, let us take time to appreciate all that God did for us through Jesus Christ's death on the cross. God richly bless you. Happy Easter. Shalom.
