Welcome back to another episode! Today I'm joined by a special guest Robby! We break down big news, answer a question from a listener, and have a very fun new segment! Enjoy!
In this episode of the Play Action Podcast, the host introduces a special guest named Robbie. They discuss various news and signings in the NFL, including Brandon Cooks being traded to the Dallas Cowboys, Isaac Sayamalu signing with the Steelers, Laramie Tunful getting a contract extension with the Texans, and Adam Thielen joining the Panthers. They also mention signings by C.J. Garner-Johnson, Sean Murphy-Bunting, Dalton Schultz, Devin Singletary, David Harris, and Dante Hightower. The Jets sign multiple wide receivers and express interest in Odell Beckham Jr. and Randall Cobb. Other signings include David Edwards, Lane Johnson, D.J. Shark, and Bobby Wagner returning to the Seahawks. Hello everybody, and we are back here for episode 2 of the Play Action Podcast. I'm super excited to be here with you guys to talk about all things around the NFL yet again. So apparently you guys liked me a little bit, so I'm back here again for another episode. And today, I brought a special guest. His name is Robbie, and he is very glad to be here. That's about right. And I'm excited to have him. I think you guys will like him, and he'll be around the show relatively often. You better. I hope that you enjoy the episode on today's episode. We will be having personalized news segments, and we will be answering a question from you, the listener. And we will be going over our very own news segment, and you will figure that out later in the video. So stay tuned for that. Very exciting. And let's get into it. All right, before we begin, Robbie, tell us a little about yourself. Tell the listener a little about yourself. A little about myself? Well, I'm actually 7'2", very unusual for my age, which I cannot disclose, but I am 7'2". He's not 7'2". You don't know that. I do. The view is a little foggy from down there. I'm sitting right next to you. Ouch. Continue. Well, I was born on Mars. It's pretty interesting. I don't think you guys are going to like it. All right, we are going to get right into the news for today's show. And there is plenty of news to talk about, as it's been a little over a week since our last show, so we need to break down all the major news. Too much stuff happens in a week in the NFL. Way too much stuff. I mean, we're trying to make a living here. It's not even, like, it's off-season. It's so crazy to me. Yes. Robbie here has been studying his absolute hardest to get down on this sport. It is his favorite sport, so we will get right into this. Not much competition. Exactly. I'm kidding. That's a hot take. Oh, boy. It's the best of the best. If there's any baseball lovers on here, get out the podcast. There's a lot of news that we have to get into. We're going to start with Brandon Cooks, wide receiver previously of the Houston Texans, getting traded into the Dallas Cowboys. Now, if you guys caught the last episode, which I hope you did, it was fantastic. It was pretty good. It was pretty good. Better than I expected. Ouch. No, not that much. But the Cowboys were on my for-agency winners list, and, I mean, that was before this trade, and now they acquire a big-name wide receiver to add with CeeDee Lamb, and even though they cut Ezekiel Elliott, this is huge news. So how do you feel about this, Robbie? Well, I personally feel like it's a very good move for the Cowboys. It'll probably greatly help their offense, and, hey, who knows? Maybe this will even be the Cowboys' year, finally. As the fans keep saying. Already coming in hot with the football puns. Man's been doing his due diligence. All right. Next, Isaac Sayamalu, the former guard of the Philadelphia Eagles, is signing with the Steelers. We don't need to help just stay on this one that much, because I hate the Steelers. But this will... I'd like to have an objective opinion and, like, no bias on this podcast. There's so much bias. Wait till we get into the Lamar Jackson news. Oh, boy. I do talk about him a lot. Yeah, so this will actually greatly help their offensive line. This is a very underrated player and an underrated signing. This, unfortunately, will help the Steelers greatly, so good job, Pittsburgh. All right. After that, Laramie Tunful got a massive extension to stay with the Texans. He's now the highest-paid left tackle in the NFL. This is something he said he wanted to do during the season to, quote-unquote, reset the tackle market, and this probably rules out any trades to Robbie's favorite team, the Chiefs, RIP. First of all, Brian, you didn't do your research. My favorite team is not the Chiefs. I do root for them, but... What? The Lions. You were screaming so loud for that Super Bowl. I was for the Super Bowl because the Lions didn't make it, RIP Lions. This is going to be their year. Hang on, hang on. Were you screaming loudly for the Chiefs or were you screaming loudly for Rihanna? Okay. Enough of that. You do love Rihanna. No, not really. Anyway, in all seriousness, I really think it does reset the market, and I don't know. We'll see how it affects future free agency left tackles. We're off to a great start here on the PlayAction podcast. It's coming in hot with the Rihanna take. All right. It's all you, Ryan. Attafila has got signed to the Carolina Panthers. They now get a big-time receiver after the DJ Moore trade, which went down where they traded away DJ Moore, hence the trade, to acquire the number one pick. They also traded away a bunch of other stuff. We broke that down last episode, so give me your opinion on Adam Thielen getting signed to the Panthers. Previous Vikings star wide receiver, but he's an older guy now. Do you think he'll still have it? Well, I don't know. It's tough. I feel like he probably won't. I mean, in my past experience just from watching football on the news, veterans getting traded to different teams usually just doesn't work out. Then again, it did just go to an Eagles concert, and they're all in their 70s, and they sounded amazing, so you never know. Oh, God. All right. Next bit of news. We can kind of speed through a couple of these now. These aren't major signings. Obviously, C.J. Garner-Johnson, the previous safety of the Philadelphia Eagles, he's a great player, signed with the Detroit Lions, who are apparently Robbie's favorite team. Oh, yeah. They're on his golf cart. They are all over my golf cart. Way too much Lions gear on that custom golf cart. You can never have too much Lions gear. You can have too much Lions gear. What a Raven fan would say. Don't become the new Cowboys. This is our year. We're the Lions with all that crap. All right. C.J. Garner-Johnson also made some interesting comments about Jalen Hurts, saying Lamar Jackson maybe deserves a little more cheddar than his previous quarterback, Jalen Hurts. Something about him maybe. Sean Murphy-Bunting, previous corner for the Buccaneers, is signing with the Tennessee Titans. Tua Tungavailoa's fifth-year option was picked up, as was Niners wide receiver Brandon Ayuk. Both of their fifth-year options were indeed picked up. And now let's get to some more Texans news, because apparently they like doing things. I don't know why. They're terrible. They signed both Dalton Schultz, tight end previously for the Cowboys, and Devin Singletary, running back previously for the Bills, one-year contract. What's your opinion on what happened here? First of all, a little embarrassing. For the longest time, I genuinely thought his name was Devin Singularity. But besides that, I mean, you never know how they'll fare on one-year deals with rookie quarterbacks. Yeah, as they're supposedly, can it, I can't. You got this, Ryan. Supposedly is apparently a new word. It is. Supposedly, they are going to probably draft a quarterback with that number two pick, you'd assume. I'd assume. They no longer probably have their pick of the litter, as the Panthers now have the number one pick, as we've said way too many times on this podcast. They'll probably take a quarterback, and on one-year deals, as Robbie said, I don't know how they'll fare with a rookie who is trying to just adjust to the NFL. Next, the Buffalo Bills signed their Devin Singularity replacement, as the kids call him. David Harris, running back of the New England Patriots previously, now being signed to the Buffalo Bills. Speaking of the Patriots, previous Patriots linebacker was with them for many of their Super Bowls. Dante Hightower has retired. Great linebacker, was very good in Madden. Huge loss. Huge loss. I don't know if that's the case at this point in his career, but Patriots bandwagon fan over here? I don't know. We'll have to see. The Jets keep signing wide receivers. They signed McCole Harden, and then went and immediately traded Elijah Moore. That's not an upgrade, that's a downgrade. I know the Jets and Elijah Moore had some issues, but Elijah Moore is now a Cleveland Brown, and previous Chiefs wide receiver McCole Harden has signed with the Jets. They recently signed Packers wide receiver Alan Lazard, and have expressed interest in Odell Beckham Jr. and Randall Cobb, who are still free agents, so I don't know why they need this many receivers. Robbie's giving me that Jets-are-being-stupid look. Do you have a strong opinion on this matter? Well, classic Jets just making bad decision after bad decision, relying on that Aaron Rodgers trade. Ouch. I mean, I think at this point, based on some reports by Robert Zala, he'll probably be there, but relying on it at this point, I don't know. It's a risky gamble, signing way too many wide receivers to be on your depth chart. I still assume Corey Davis will probably be cut, especially if they sign with the Jets. By getting a little ahead of themselves. But, yeah, getting a little ahead of themselves with this Aaron Rodgers stuff. The Bills have signed guard David Edwards. Lane Johnson has signed a massive one-year extension with the Philadelphia Eagles, and he says he wants to retire an Eagle. So, I mean, when your team's that good, I would want to retire an Eagle, too. I mean, he could always replace Clint, right? Sorry, wrong Eagle. Keep going. The man has the Eagles hoodie on, man. Get the football. The Panthers have signed wide receiver D.J. Shark. They're still trying to rebuild their receiver core after losing D.J. Moore, as I've said at least five times on this podcast so far. The Seattle Seahawks have signed Bobby Wagner to a one-year deal. After he left for one year last year, now he's back. The band's back together, and he's like, wait, I signed with the team that's supposed to win the Super Bowl, and they didn't make the playoffs. But the team I left did make the playoffs. So maybe I should just go back there. I don't know. Good thought process, Bobby. And now it wouldn't be a news segment without talking about me yelling at the Ravens. Let's get to the rest. So first, let's get to the minor news. They signed Nelson Aguilar, wide receiver, previously with the Patriots, and an assortment of other teams to a one-year contract. Very cheap deal. It's a low-risk, low-upside type of contract. Kind of pointless, yeah, but with their receiving corps, they'll still probably be better than Sammy Watkins. But now the big news that you've all been waiting for this entire news segment. You've been waiting for it, Ryan. I've been waiting for it. I've been crying all day. I'm just going to sit back and record you screaming. Yeah. Don't mind me. Please hold. I'm just kidding. Lamar Jackson. That fella. That guy. That guy. That goofy fella. He has requested a trade from the Baltimore Ravens. And, yeah, this could all be a negotiation tactic, but if it's not, it's an end of an era in Baltimore. He's the best quarterback we've ever had. Ryan's going to be very sad. And I don't know what we're going to do. Why exactly does he want that? Hey, if you think Lamar's going to return, go to the sports betting sites and bet on the Ravens to win the Super Bowl right now because their odds are so low they're like the Jaguars. Ha-ha. Weird Jacksonville joke. Ryan, would you care to enlighten us why exactly Lamar is feeling this way? Because they won't give him a stupid, ridiculous amount of money that he shouldn't be making anyway, and no NFL player should be making to go tackle each other and run into each other for no apparent reason. Okay, okay, okay. I should have known that was going to happen. I'm sorry. I'm very... I'm not happy. He gets into it. I get way too into this whole Lamar Jackson stuff. We still haven't traded for DeAndre Hopkins, by the way. If we did that, I would have some party music going in here. What are you doing? You have nine Ravens things hanging on your walls that I can see. And he's blind. I hope you know that. He's not actually blind. There's more. Oh, you're right. There is more. He has Raven's bedsheets. Anyway, that's the point. That was some personal info that did not need to be shared. Oh, and there's a hat. Never mind. Yeah, and I have some Lamar Jackson gear on my walls, autographed jersey, that kind of stuff. I don't think they actually care. I don't think they actually care either. Why did you get us into this conversation? It is your bad. All right, we're going to take a quick break so I can talk to Robbie about how to run a podcast. And we will be back here to get into our very own personalized segment. And I hope you guys enjoy that. And hello, we are back here. And I'm very excited to tell you about this next segment called Music Match. Now, Robbie actually loves to play this to me as he vigorously started pointing at himself for no reason. So, Robbie, what are we going to be doing here? Well, Ryan, my dear friend Ryan, had the wonderful idea for a segment that he called Music Match. Yes. Basically, as far as I understand it, we take a song title and we think of a player and their current situation in the NFL has to relate back to the song title somehow. And we have to basically defend our reasoning for picking that player for that song. All right. It's essentially a player's theme song. I guess so. One thing he left out there, it's all based on the title, not the actual lyrics to the song. So, if it's like a song that's about coming in, but he talks about moving out, yeah, no, that's not what's going on. It's all just about the title, so nothing to do with the rest of the song. Right. And, yeah, I like doing random things. We are going to start with a wonderful Elton John song. We are both big Elton John fans. It is I'm Still Standing. Me more so. Not true at all. It is absolutely true. It is called I'm Still Standing. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Best artist of all time, I'm Still Standing, 1983. That's besides the point. Yeah, he has a bit of a point there. But, yes, we are going to come up with a player for this wonderful song title called I'm Still Standing. You are first. I'm actually going to go first. Robbie's correct. And my player, he's been tossed around a little bit, left out to the trash, I guess, as they say, by his former team. And he's been hurt all the time. And, Robbie, would you like to guess who I'm going to say before we go? It would be a funny coincidence, but Michael Thomas? No, it's not Michael Thomas. I'm going to be talking about Christian McCaffrey, running back for the San Francisco 49ers. He was left for dead by the Carolina Panthers, who traded him away for not even a first-round pick. A second, a third, and a fourth. That's dearth. And he's still standing. And he has been hurt the past couple of years, but he had a fantastic season this past year, was a Pro Bowl snub, and he is still standing and is still at the top of the league. Better than he ever did? Better than he ever did! Is he looking like a true survivor, though? He is looking like a true survivor. Is he feeling like a little kid, or do we not know that? Shut up! We'll do. But Christian McCaffrey is my selection. Do you have any argument against that? No, not really. I think it does fit very well. It's not too hard, I would assume. Do you think yours is better? I will let you know if yours is better. Well, we'll see what the viewers think. Yeah, actually, you know what? Sure. That's a good idea. Go down to the comments of this podcast, and... That can be the point of the game. They can decide which person's player fits the song better. Sure, let's do that. Otherwise, we're just talking door-to-door. So mine, mine, mine for I'm still standing is Christian McCaffrey. And, Robbie, what is your selection? Well, Michael Thomas of the Saints. One of the greatest receivers in football. Hot take! Well, in my opinion. And, I mean, after the quarterback change, Drew Brees, and getting injured a lot. Like, a lot. That's not wrong. It's a piece of glass. But he's having a comeback. He's really still standing. He's still standing. Like, once, he never could have hoped to win. But now... Just stop laughing. All right. Robbie's is Michael Thomas. I do think that Michael Thomas is still standing, by the way. He had to take a pay cut, too. You could have said that. You left that out. May have a flacker over here. But, yeah. Let's get a little off topic here for a second. Greatest receiver in all of football, Michael Thomas. Do you mean he was or he still is? I said he is one of. He is. Or just in general. Throughout his career, one of the greatest. I'm not saying he's the greatest. And I don't have as extensive of football knowledge as you. Cooper Kopp and Justin Jefferson have something to say to you, bud. I didn't say he was better than us. But he is still standing. He is still standing. I mean, at first, we may have meant to cut him down, but... If our love is just... I'm not going to stop. You're going to talk about your love? Are you professing your love for Michael Thomas? I think he got a little confused. The next is, if our love was just a circus, he'd be a clown by now. I'm more. That's why you stopped. All right. Brian's getting a little off topic. Excuse him. I enjoy getting off topic. Our next song title is, Movin' Out. By Billy Joel. This is mine. Yeah, Robbie gave me this song because... I love Billy Joel. He's a Billy Joel guy. I do enjoy playing piano man. It is fun, but... Play five Billy Joel songs real fast. Oh, I can't. I'm not a huge Billy Joel guy. I know Piano Man. I know Movin' Out. I know... We Didn't Start the Fire. It's always burning since the world returned. All right. Did he make... What's it called? My Brother Keeps... No, that was Billy Idol. Never mind. Very, very different people. All right. My Billy Joel knowledge is not up to speed, but Robbie's going to go first here with his selection for Movin' Out. So what is your selection? Movin' Out? Well, so is Jimmy Garoppolo. He used to be on the 49ers. That was my pick. Was it really? That was my pick. All right, I'll change mine. I got this. Well, yeah, 49ers for a few years. Excuse me, 49ers. Now he's moving to the Raiders. 49ers, but was not there for 49 years. No. Continue. Thank you for cleaning that up. He's not even that old. Or close to that old. He has now been moved to the Raiders. He's been there for a few weeks. We'll see how that pans out for him. Next season. I'll be interested. So I want your opinion on the Jimmy Garoppolo debate. There's debate of, is he a good quarterback? Is he just an average quarterback on a good team with a good system, with a good coach, with good weapons around him? How do you feel about Jimmy Garoppolo? How do you think he'll do in Vegas? No strong opinions, but I wouldn't be surprised if he does better this season. So you think Jimmy Garoppolo is going to finally prove that he is wrong? I think it's possible. All right, now the real question that everyone's waiting for. How do you feel about Jimmy Garoppolo being named the handsomest quarterback in football? No comment. No comment. No comment. No comment. Robbie was out there voting. You can say that. I will say that. Now, I had to come up with a guy on the spot. I wanted you to talk a little more, so I could come up with a guy. I'm going to test your football knowledge. I'm going with Deshaun Elliott. That was fast. Yeah, I came up with that on the spot because I was just looking around the football world earlier, and I saw Deshaun Elliott trying to recruit Lamar Jackson to his team. He was a previous Raven, and then he was a Lion, and now he's a Dolphin. But he played with Lamar Jackson. He was signed by the Dolphins a couple of weeks ago. I think he made the right decision when he left to the Lions. But he's not on them anymore. He's a Dolphin. He was signed by the Dolphins, and he's already trying to recruit Lamar Jackson to the Dolphins. But, oh my gosh, Twitter is not a safe space for that man anymore. Not a safe space for anyone. The Dolphins. The Dolphins fans are coming after him, saying, we need to trade this man, we need to cut him, because he's not backing Tua. Which is hard to say. And they're saying he's not backing him. So he's moving out of Detroit. He's coming over to Miami. He's not really being accepted, so he might be moving out again. He might have to be segmented again somewhere. I would have said Aaron Rodgers, but it's not official yet. He hasn't officially, he's like currently still packing up his bags. He hasn't officially moved out yet. The last one is Don't Stop Till You Get Enough by Michael Jackson. So a classic for a lot of you out there. And for this, there's many ways you can interpret this. I interpret it as a player that fights for yardage, will not stop until he gets that first out of that touchdown, and you know who that is? Who is that, Aaron? Who's one of them? The Yeti, Derrick Henry! Now I'm not a fan of Derrick Henry, because he beat the Ravens a couple years ago in the playoffs, and I did not enjoy that experience when I thought we were going to make it in the Super Bowl. I thought that was our year, as many Hell's Boys fans say. But it was not for the Derrick Henry, because he just keeps fighting for yardage. He will stiff-arm you into the ground. Shout-out to Earl Thomas. And he will keep fighting for that extra yardage, get you that first out of that touchdown, and he will never stop until you get enough. All right, what's your opinion, Robbie? Well, first of all, I apologize. I didn't realize until after the fact that for the past couple of minutes I've been sitting pretty far from the microphone, so you could probably hardly hear me. I could be hearing you, and I'm right next to you. That's my bad. Now, don't stop until you get enough. I'm Michael Jackson. Very good. Very good. You butcher a lot of stuff. Don't worry, I'll try it at the end of the episode, so stay tuned. I'll try it again. Do the most girthy hee-hee you ever thought you could do. Keep going, Robbie. I'll do it at the end of the episode. I need to warm up my vocals. While he's warming up his vocals, I'm going to talk about Levante David. Now, I interpreted this as just a player who's been on the same team forever, and they won't stop until they get enough of that team, which Levante David has not for 12 years now. He's on his 12th season with the Bucs, and it doesn't look like anything is going to make him change his mind. You all warmed up back there? We still got to get through the quick question, but Robbie, how do you feel about Levante David getting his new contract extension with Tampa? That's something we forgot to say in the news, so sorry about that. I'm surprised it keeps happening. He just won't stop until he gets enough. He won't stop until he gets enough. All right, let's get into the quick section. Or, quick section. Wow. Quick questions, and then we'll hear my fantastic Michael Jackson stuff. But we'll be right back. All right, we are back here with our listener question that we finish every episode off with. This question comes in from Robert F. from Milwaukee. Where even is Milwaukee? Um, I heard about it, but I think it's like... All I know is the Bucs play there, and Giannis lives there. Isn't that where, like, motorcycles are most popular? Oh, no, they're known for their beer brewing. It's ruled by their biker gangs and their beer brewing? That's what I heard. So the biker gangs are drinking beer. That's what I know. Sorry, Giannis. We'll have to wait and see when we go to Milwaukee. Sorry, Giannis, I also have the best thing to say. Robert F., watch out there. Robert F., watch out. Stay in your basketball games. That's the only sports team they have, right? Milwaukee? They have the Milwaukee Bucs. All right, but the actual question here, he says, Hey, Ryan. I can see that you exist again. What's your opinion on Skyler Murray? Bounce back from injury or struggle? Now, I have a very firm opinion on this, but I want to hear from the guy he did not cite in his question, Ronnie, over here. So what do you think on this matter? I don't think it's going to be too much of a struggle for him to recover. It looks like he's already well on his way to recovering. As they all say. By the way, we did have a topic about this. ACL recovery timeline, because he toured with ACL. Every single player known to man, they're ahead of schedule. So maybe the schedule just jacked up. Because the schedule says he's going to recover in three decades. Like, oh, he's way ahead of schedule. It's true. We need to modify the schedule here. Anyway, continue. It's played by a bunch of very jacked people. That has nothing to do with anything. You can cut that if you want, but if you don't. I'm not cutting that. That's saying anything. You're going to buff people. Continue. Well, I personally, I don't think it's going to take too long for him to recover, but I do think it would be wise, and I think what's going to happen is for him to just not come back too soon. I think it would be best if he comes back at his healthiest. He's still a young player. I just don't think he would want to rush things. Yeah, I agree with that. But how do you think he will do when he does come back if he doesn't rush it? Because I think if he does rush it, he's not going to play great. He could have re-injury risks, pretty much everything he just said. But I think what Robert's asking for here is how do you think when he does come back, let's say hypothetically he does take his due diligence, how do you think he'll play? Do you think he'll fully recover or struggle, especially with these DeAndre Hopkins trade rumors? Oh, I think he'll be fine, honestly. Like, I mean, I'll maintain myself. Are weapons a concern for you? Even, like, DeAndre Hopkins, all that, not a concern? I'll maintain myself. Most vague answer ever. I mean, I guess, be vague, be right. I have no clue, by the way, disclaimer, what I was talking about a second ago. I was, like, really distracted. I was like, I love people, NFL. So ignore that that ever happened. Ryan, what's your opinion? I was going to say he's a good player. I've never been a big Tyler Murray fan, but I think he'll be fine. I don't think he's a top-five quarterback. I think he's maybe a borderline top-ten NFL quarterback. Maybe. I'm a bit of a Tyler Murray hater. Not because I hate the guy. Probably a great guy. He loves playing Modern Warfare, too. Double XP Weekend, everybody. A lot of my friends, too. They're all great guys. Come on. Gosh, what's going on with me today? Ivan, as well, geez. I don't know what's going on. Ashley Collins. Whoa, man, geez. I am, yeah. All right. Yeah, but Tyler Murray, a bit of a hater on Tyler Murray, just because I don't like his game. But, I mean. Why? I don't know. I just think he just runs a lot and doesn't think to throw the ball. But, unlike Lamar Jackson, he's not good at running, really. What? He just runs a lot and cannot really throw that well. He also runs when he has wide-open receivers, which maybe it's just an ego thing. I don't know. He's a young player. Anyway. Well, shut up. We still have to wait and see. So, what Robbie's probably talking about is he's not a quarterback. I play quarterback, and I cannot say I'm good at running. I am very slow. But, you choose. But, I do run sometimes, just because when there's certain people defending, I think I can get by them. You are always wrong. So, I'm never wrong. Ever. Yes, you're never wrong. Now, to finish off today's episode, just remember that. I'm never wrong. Not once. You've never been talked about. Never been wrong. Never. Ever. Not you. We're all jokes here. All right. That's going to wrap this up for today. And, everybody stay safe out there. Robbie, you got anything you want to say before we finish off? I did all right. I'm not mad. Have a great day. Everybody stay safe out there. Stay tuned. And, hee hee.
