In today's Daily Devotion, we are reminded that as believers, we have an obligation to live according to the Spirit, not the flesh. By putting to death our sinful actions, we can experience true life. Through the Spirit, we are adopted as God's children and can call Him our Father. We are encouraged to see all people as potential siblings and to invite them into God's family. Join us for worship today and be part of our family reunion. Welcome to Christ Church's Daily Devotion for October 15th, 2023. Today we will be reading from Romans chapter 8, verses 12 through 16. Therefore, brothers and sisters, we have an obligation, but it is not to the flesh to live according to it. But if you live according to the flesh, you will die. But if by the Spirit you put to death the misdeeds of the body, you will live. For those who are led by the Spirit of God are the children of God. The Spirit you received does not make you slaves so that you live in fear again. Rather, the Spirit you receive brought about your adoption to sonship. And by him we cry, Abba, Father. The Spirit himself testifies with our spirit that we are God's children. For those who are led by the Spirit of God are the children of God. Verse 14. The Spirit himself testifies with our spirit that we are God's children. Verse 16. In verse 12, in the NIV version, Paul refers to the people to whom he is writing as brothers and sisters. He sees them as part of his family. Through Jesus Christ, God seeks to adopt us all into the family. We are invited to know that God loves us, forgives us, and receives us as daughters and sons. This understanding seems to come into my mind most often when I am participating in communion. As all of the people receive the bread and cup, I see them as a part of my family, as my brothers and sisters in Christ. God also invites us to join in the mission to invite others into the family, to be out searching for people who would become our siblings. What if we all began to see every person we encounter every day as a potential brother and sister? Would that not change our efforts to do anything we can to help them, serve them, and guide them into relationship with God? God wants them in the family. May that be our desire as well. For today's personal worship option, we're having our weekly family reunion again today. Come join us for worship at either 930 or 1115. Your brothers and sisters hope to see you there.
