God wants us to repent of our sin so that we do not have bondage to sin or a break in our fellowship with Him. That's it. Repentance isn't for GOD. It is about US. Changing OUR minds. Realizing the TRUTH of the WORD. It gets us back to the path and sets us headed in the right direction - toward Him.
