Maintaining good bone health is crucial, especially as we age. After menopause, women are at a higher risk of fractures due to changes in bone production. Osteoclasts break down bone, while osteoblasts build new bone. Women have more bone breakers than builders after menopause, leading to weakened bone density. However, incorporating almonds and soy products into our diets can boost bone health by increasing the number of osteoblasts. To learn more, visit www.harmony-within.org for online workshops and courses. Good evening and welcome to Elle's Food for Thought. I'm Elle and I'm really keen to talk today a little bit about our bone health. Now bone health becomes especially important into our 40s, 50s, 60s, 70s and onwards because the quality of our bone health determines the ability for our body to be able to be resilient, resist fracture and resist break and therefore keep us on our feet, keep us doing the things that are really important to us in our life. Now for women this is especially important because after the menopause the body changes the way that it makes and sustains bone leading to many many women having a heightened risk of fracture. When we have a heightened risk of fracture this actually directly affects our life expectancy. So supporting our bone health now and on into the future is one of those simple easy ways that allows us to have more of the quality of life that we really really would like. Now within our bones we have two things. We have osteoclasts and we have osteoblasts. Now an osteoclast actually eats up bone and an osteoblast actually builds new bone. This is happening all the time in the body. Your bones are this ever regenerating process to allow them to stay structurally strong and have good architecture. Now after menopause women actually have more bone eaters than they have bone builders which over time damages their bone density and increases the risk of fracture. Now luckily there are two very very simple things we can add into our diet that actually boost the amount of osteoblasts, those natural bone builders and will allow us to sustain and maintain the best of bone health. What are they? I hear you say well one of them is almonds. Literally three or four almonds a day or almond milk you know having a little snack in the afternoon putting them with your breakfast however it works for you. Three or four almonds a day is going to boost your bone health. Alongside almonds having products made from soy can be really useful including soy milk and tofu as well. If you really want to feel great in your body you're so welcome to join me for an online workshop or course. The next ones begin in August and you can find all the details on www.harmony-within.org
