Well, on any account, Cerulea, perhaps we should address ourselves to the, to the well-spoken one. They seem to want something, although I'm not sure what it is, and I suppose we can either listen, and maybe if it gets boring, we'll just eat all of them. I, I. My God, Cerulea, what are they saying? Can you make out even a single word of this? My heavens, my heavens. Well, flattery will get you everywhere, my child, that's been it. Anyway, does it seem to you that they are trying to offer help? I'm not sure what possible help they could be, of course, but does, does everyone seem to have an idea? Right, well. This was in Draconyx later? Okay, okay. Well, I'm starting to understand that this little chittering one, despite any semblance of dignity, does in fact also speak our language. And they have made a very interesting point, Cerulea, which is that we actually do need small beings for this little afternoon's entertainment we're planning to engage in. Which, of course, is that, as you know, the reason why we're here in this cave is because we need to put a dragon egg into the belly of the nearby volcano. Well, what I mean, I was addressing Cerulea, you little whelp. But anyway, I suppose now that you've offered your services, small though they are, of course, we may have need of you. So I'm going to give you a bit more information on our plans and what sort of things that we are doing today. And that is this, that we have seen a future, a rather dastardly and tragic and horrifying future, in fact, where there are no more dragons on the planet. And that some ugly race or species of terrifying little hobgoblins that call themselves humans will be gaining ascendancy on this planet. And that there should be no more dragons for even as much as a million years while they live during a time of cooled planet crust and atmospheric temperature. But, of course, right, I agree, Cerulea, right, they are absolute vermin, just like all the other mammals. And so we, right. So anyway, the point being that what we've got to do as dragons is we know we can't survive this cooling period of the planet. But, of course, we are dragons and we will always regain our ascendancy. And so our goal is to emplace our embryos into the heart of every volcano on the planet such that they can gestate and grow and harvest geothermal energy in order to gain as much power as possible such that when the humans inevitably destroy themselves, perhaps or perhaps not with our help, we shall then regain ascendancy. And so I suppose I'd like to just ask you if you'd like to help us place our dragon egg inside the nearby volcano. It should be just nothing but a little ditty all in an afternoon's work. Is that successful? This egg you mean, Cerulea, is that right? Right. Right. Cerulea, tell us a bit about the dragon you expect to hatch from this egg. So this beautiful egg, they produce this beautiful egg. It's, let's say, about four feet tall. It's black and opalescent and a little bit of that like kind of oil sheen, but with clearly some like golden edged effervescence as it catches the light of the fire inside the cave. And it's basically the most beautiful thing you've ever seen. Right, well. Indeed. Well, thank you for your admiration, of course. It is indeed a beautiful future dragon and we hope that it will incubate inside the belly of the volcano for many hundreds of thousands and possibly millions of years. And then it will take over the planet and of course destroy your little Mermalian kind. So we do appreciate your support here and of course we would never entrust such an egg to you alone being Mermalians. However, since you have shown us the proper respect, we have decided to let you help with the task at hand. Oh, yes, I'm not sure. Well, I'm not sure why we would cooperate. Oh, darling, splendid idea. I do say, what brilliant things you think of. Where does your splendid mind come up with these thoughts? Splendid, splendid. Well, of course, normally I would be concerned about such a silly little ruffian interacting with such a sacred object. But I don't see what harm they can do. Adding, covering it with clay, I'm sure, can only protect it a bit. So that's splendid. Go ahead and do your work. Is this magical or rather skills-based? My dear, well, now it's almost as ugly as you, which might help it be disguised from... Right, well, we do appreciate it and I suppose now we should go and step out of this cave and make your task more clear to you, shall we? Oh, no, no. Unfortunately, the place where you'll be taking the egg is across a rather large valley with a bit of a river-y sort of lake in it and then, of course, there's the army on the other side. Oh, I think you'll find they're definitely expecting you. It's a rather large army. No, of course, we would never entrust you alone with this egg and that's why we've got our death cult of dinosaur-riding lizards to support you. Of course, I am sure your intervention within this context will be rather minimal. I mean, of course, why... It's a death cult of dinosaur-riding lizard-men. You've heard of this sort of... I mean, what better... Right, well, of course, if you've got to get an important job done, what you really want is reptiles riding other reptiles. I mean, Cerulea, how do these people not even know these basic facts? Of course, dragons are far above all normal reptiles. We're not really reptiles. We're merely the progenitors of reptiles. My God, no. My God, no. These lower species, they're not very good in bed. I mean, I've, of course, never been attracted to any of them, not even for a moment. Okay. Dinosaur-riding lizards. Let's be clear. This is an important fact. The lizard-men are riding the dinosaurs. So you all come out of the cave. You walk out on Cerulea and Cedric's toattails, metaphorically speaking, of course. And they're wearing metaphorical coats. Right, right. They're wearing top and tails like Eton boys. That's canon now. Great. So you leave through a different entrance in the cave. And this one opens out onto a vast rocky valley. And in the distance, a thousand meters away, you see a massive volcano rising up into the upper reaches of the atmosphere. And on the edge of this volcano is a giant and rocky keep, craggy and fearsome, with all sorts of spikes and effigies of rodents. The faces of ancient rodent ancestors are carved into the rock above the keep. And you can see that whoever has inhabited these lands are clearly of rodent descent and have lived here for long enough to create great and massive art across the valley against the volcano from you. Well, I don't see why we should care a bit about that. Cerulea, do you? So at that moment, Cerulea and Cedric decide to put the egg covered in its clay carapace on top of a palanquin that is on the back of a giant dinosaur. It has big teeth and frills and beautiful greenish turquoise scales. And as you look around this valley, you see that, in fact, there is an entire opposing army arrayed for battle. On your side, the side of the valley that you're standing on, you are seeing two units of dinosaur-riding lizard death cultist cavalry, as well as four units of lizard men infantry. And on the other side, you're seeing at least six or eight units of these rodents. Not robots, rodents. Yeah, well, that would be special. Maybe I should work that in later. So there's a large lake slash river in the middle of this battlefield. And you can see that there are two infantry units on each side. And then there's another very narrow crossing across the lake in the middle that's sort of made out of little cobblestones. It may be difficult to cross. The palanquin and the dinosaur that's carrying the egg cannot cross that. But you could potentially move yourself or some smaller infantry units across that. But the bigger concern here is that there is a huge army of these rodents across the valley from you. And you haven't heard anything about this yet. And I didn't know that you'd be encountering any sort of obstruction in the goal that these dragons have assigned you. Okay. Okay. Okay. Okay. Okay. Okay. Yeah, well, I suppose that's not the worst idea I've ever had. I mean, I assumed that once we started moving towards them, they'd get out of the way anyway, given our fearsome death cult of... Okay. Well, Cerulea, would you like to sort of fly out there and potentially sort of invite them to parley? I don't know. It's not a terrible idea, perhaps. I mean, these little rodents do seem right well. Oh, splendid, splendid, splendid. All right, yes, that's rather better, I think. Yes, let's send an emissary. So Cedric flies up into the sky and gives the universal sign for parley, whatever that is. And so you see two of the larger capybaras get out of their hot tubs. Oh, we don't know they're capybaras yet. Two of the larger rodents extricate themselves from hot tubs. And you're sort of thinking to yourself, like, wow, these rodents have really nice hot tubs. No wonder they're protecting this land so carefully. So two of the rodents step forward, and let's say they meet you on this little pathway in the middle of the lake. So I have these tokens here to denominate people from your side. So now you're in parley with these rodents. And what happens is that they don't even give you a chance to speak before they begin holding forth. And you hear the one more regal one say, What do you think you're doing here supporting these vile reptiles? This is sacred land of capybara, and you must remove yourselves and reptiles immediately or face... Yes, Krustin, they must remove themselves or face the devastation of giant capybara siege mortar. We already make excellent statue ourselves, and we will not be... Yes, we already make more magnificent statue than anybody else can possibly make. Great... Yeah, just play three characters at once, no big deal. I was like low-hanging fruit. Well, that is very nice ocarina. Maybe you play it for us. We rely on thermal vent to keep our hot spring warm and as you know capybara's main goal in life is to soak in hot tub with lemon. And if you... Lemon make it so that water very nice and citrusy. If you have never taken hot tub with lemon, I don't know what to tell you. You are making mistake. Yes, we... You can see why we do not want to give up way of life. So, the dragons are... Sorry, the capybara general Cornelius and his lieutenant Creston are gonna do their best to persuade you to defect to their side now. You should... Even though these dragons are very canonically hot and sexy, they lack important mortal fiber and they are attempting to disrupt our ecosystem and you... Maybe let's try a different voice for Creston, like a little more like... Yes, King Cornelius. Right. Creston... Creston the lieutenant is small and fierce. So, you know, just keep that anger in there, Kai. Yeah, feisty, exactly. So, Creston is also talking about the siege mortars and how they're like... This is their secret and ultimate weapon. Other than hot tubs, lemons and capybaras, the only other resource that the capybara army has is two massive siege mortars that they use to defend themselves. These are monstrous cannons. Well, the siege mortars are loaded with lava from the volcano. So, yes, Creston, tell them about siege mortar and why it's so effective against dragons. This is correct. We can destroy any foe with effective use of siege mortar. Yet another reason why, if you don't want to die, you join us now. So they roll up... They roll persuasion, let's say, first on Ral, that was a 17, then on Blaze, 15, and then on Honey Dragon, also 15. Or your love of dragons, potentially. Yeah, sure. Just roll a flat 20 and you can decide. I don't really care who says you're wrong. Oh my lord. Woo! Okay, so King Cornelius says, time to make a decision. We retreat back to our battle lines and in 30 seconds, siege mortars begin firing. You're either with us or against us. We have very... The area of effect of siege mortar is incredibly large. If it hits one thing, it hits all things. Sounds like a dubious plan, but, you know, it's your life on the line. If you fail, if you succeed... If you succeed, better for us. If you fail, you'll be dead. No problem. Okay, is reasonable... Okay, so Blaze, you're going back to the dragon lines. Okay, but with an agreement, an attempted agreement with the cavy bearers to engage in this ruse. Okay. I love this subplot. Great job, team. So, as the Crustan and Cornelius move back to their battle lines, you see the palanquin, the dragon palanquin, move towards the western bridge as the dragon... ...as the dinosaur riding lizard death cultists carry it there. The lizard infantry moves across the bridge in order to defend the crossing and you see more of the cavy bearer spearmen move to defend that lane. So, we're going to take a quick break and when we come back, we will find out what happens next. As everybody retreats to their battle lines, you hear the screech of Cerulea and Cedric and you hear the boom of the cavy bearer siege mortars as they begin firing at the dragons and the palanquin and the death cultists. I expect, save to not look at the joke, but there are some speed Capybara who are actually hasty units of the Capybara infantry who move twice as fast, and they move down towards this crossing where they see the palanquin moving, and they engage the first front line troops of the lizard death cult infantry.
