Giving you news from around the sports world and the Philadelphia Eagles! All of this and more given to you on the pod. Go Birds!
The Philadelphia Eagles have had a mixed day in free agency. CJ GJ signed with the Detroit Lions after tweeting about the Eagles. This leaves a hole at safety, but the team has acquired Justin Evans from the Saints. The defense looks solid with all-pro corners and a strong defensive line. However, the linebacker position could be a problem. The offense is capable of high-scoring games, but Jalen Hurts may be waiting for other quarterbacks to get paid before negotiating his contract. The team needs a reliable running back. In other sports news, March Madness has been unpredictable, and the World Baseball Classic has brought excitement back to the sport. The latest mock draft predicts the Eagles will select an offensive lineman. Welcome to the birds pod where we take flight into everything Philadelphia Eagles. I'm your host Andrew Gonzalez It's been sort of an iffy day today for birds fans CJ GJ signed a one-year eight million dollar deal with the Detroit Lions and CJ he just has going crazy with those tweets during free agency like on Wednesday and Tuesday I Mean he would tweet about the birds have the Eagles profile He's just messing with fans from the Bengals and he just ends up with the Lions It's clear to show that when the Eagles offered him the contract a while ago That he just asked for way too much money, and it's just did not work out for him in the beginning So with CJ gone that leaves a big hole at safety and how we he's been trying to get a safety today he got Justin Evans from the Saints per Ian Rappaport But even just having them to with Reed Blankenship, it's just not gonna cut it against the opponents we face. I Mean we have offenses here like the Chiefs the Bills Dallas always gives us trouble no matter where we play them and Rogers is on the Jets I mean this safety position has got to get filled up pretty quickly or we're gonna have some issues this year. That's for sure But there's always a plus side to the situation I mean we got to all pro corners We'll all pro caliber corners and Darius Slay and James Bradbury We got Fletcher Cox back on the D line and I honestly think Hassan Reddick's gonna have another amazing year with the birds Beyond the safety hole. I really don't see any issues with this defense I mean the linebacker could be a little bit of a problem But going against these teams is really gonna be about the offenses and I really think this offense is really capable of scoring those high being Victorious in those high scoring games, for example at 34 31, maybe even it's just a shootout I think the Eagles are capable of that. I Think when it's all said and done, it's just not gonna be down to the defense I think that she was gonna have to come out two-minute warning two-minute drive get down the field and score whether it be a field goal or a game when he touched down like If we're gonna pay this guy the big bucks, he's gonna have to show up when it's needed And I'm gonna go back to the Jalen Hurts market right quick Um, I have a sense of feeling that Jalen's looking for a way to wait for other quarterbacks first I know them Daniel Jones who got paid up I feel like he's gonna wait more so he can get paid more which is a bad thing for the birds If he's fine with the birds right now, I guarantee they'd be saving money to compare to what he's gonna want after people like Lamar get paid because Lamar is still out there and of course doesn't have an agent but I he just he's Being a little too extra with the contract, but that can shift up the market Especially with that with quarterbacks like Josh Allen and Patrick Mahomes getting paid a ton of money that it's just not gonna be good for the birds because that means that they're gonna have to start relying on more young talent and Looking back in the years how he's not really good with the young talent I feel he's more good with free agents But giving him money when there's not gonna be a lot of money because Jalen could have a big contract It could stir up a little bit of issues in the future How his first move this year was in free agency was Rashad Penny and I Just not really that big of a fan. Of course. He he has that potential to light a fire and Just go off but the only issue with him is that he's getting injured way too often and I feel like the birds need a reliable running back that they can count on being there week to week So that they can get those yards on the ground Of course also with Jalen and I feel like the running game is really important in our in our type of offense because We're really built around those big guys up front and those really brought that brought up a ton of issues for the defenses for example when we brush a ton on the Packers and we ended up opening up a ton of plays for people like quest walk into downfield and Mile standards is just running all over them and the old line dominated that game The birds just need a really good running back and I Personally don't think Rashad Penny is that guy And I'm gonna take a little quick break off of football and just talk to you know It's March and everything and March Madness is just absolutely what everyone is talking about But like when I really think of the retrospect of it when people look at the math inside of the March Madness brackets that people spend a ton of time on But I don't really understand why people spend that much time because in the long run the only people who end up winning are the people who don't even know about college basketball at all and It's just a waste for me. It's a waste of time Honestly, because I know I'm not gonna get a perfect bracket. I mean this year. I've only I'm in like 14,000 place which is not bad, but I Just like enjoying the games and seeing teams, you know said like, Virginia Virginia threw that game away. I mean, what was that? I don't even know the guy's name but he was literally guarded by three defenders and he just threw it up in the air like that has to be I had to Have been one of the biggest choke jobs ever seen in my entire life The guy literally told Furman to take the game and if you've seen that video Kevin Harlan I mean he was shocked and they had the camera on Ben Gundy and he did face was funny But I mean Virginia just choked that one up Another thing around the sports world that's been going on is the World Baseball Classic now I love the World Baseball Classic because it like Sort of gives like a World Cup feel and there's countries like people playing for their countries but like this has been a great thing for them I'll be because I Feel like fact like in the couple last years like their viewership's been down But it's obvious why like they've been struggling to get viewership because the games have been slow Like the Phillies run last year Like you felt that everything could happen like every time Harper went up something magical happened Every time they needed a clutch hit they'd get a clutch hit step in the World Series, of course but the thing is the MLBs needed this because The games in the past with this minute. There was a ton of no hitters I mean I I don't want to go to a stadium and sit there for three hours to not see my team get hit to get a hit and then Also, the games taking too long. I show up to a ball game at 7 p.m End up getting home. I like midnight like I'm not trying to be there for that long So that's why I'm a fan of the the pitch clock But the World Baseball Classic has brought in a fire that's never I haven't seen a baseball in a long time You've seen games like the Dominican Republic and Puerto Rico those games were intense from first pitch to the last pitch The fans were going crazy you see that the fans were going hard for their country Another example of that is in Arizona when Mexico played the u.s There was Mexico chance the fans were having an amazing time and the players were lit up because they're supporting there they're playing for their country and it's just lights a fire under them and that just brings in a whole new brand of baseball that I Love and that people are starting to love in Mexico Sadly they lost against Japan. That was probably one of the best baseball games I've seen in my entire life Like back and forth. It was just intense and I just I loved it. I loved it I have not seen baseball like that in a while even going back to last year when the Dodgers disappointed me like I didn't really feel a fire lit up because It just felt like baseball was missing something and I feel like the World Baseball Classic It's just lighting it up again, and I really hope these players transition it into the MLB regular season because that would be a really fun season and To a transition off those other sports. I got a NBC Sports is a latest mock draft and It's nothing too surprising I mean they got TJ Stroud going to the Oh hot to go into, Carolina Houston Texans getting bright. So now I don't really think I trust Bryce young to be a franchise I mean you can mark me wrong, of course but I feel like he's too small to be a quarter to be a quarterback in the NFL and Especially on the Texans. I feel like he could be destined for failure Anthony Richardson to Washington Now Anthony Richardson had an amazing combine. He was a freak Like I remember seeing a tweet saying that he was had The attributes of so many different NFL stars He could be a monster if he's treated the right way and I think with Eric the enemy in Washington He could be a monster just not in these first couple of years the Colts taking will Levis I Just feel like that's gonna be another bus for the Colts It's the Colts have been destined for failure after they been doing some stupid off front office moves like letting go of Frank Reich for Jeff Saturday and That fell the trash automatically So I just think this is gonna be another bad year for the Colts. Of course it is the Colts See, I don't think in Jalen Carter Um That could be dangerous He He used to be going he was on the marks like before college during college football, of course after that fat accident Yeah, he was Projected to go number one But uh, let's just get down to the birds They got the two linemen for Pitt The Birds are number 30 It says that The birds take an offensive lineman. Now. I would not mind that I'm gonna be research on this guy uh, I wouldn't mind it though because um Jason Kelsey and Lane Johnson might lose soon. I know my lot is still gonna be here, but the other guys are like About to be retiring age. I don't know if Jason tells me that they're here for a while I do like our new offensive lineman our new offensive line though with my lot on the left Dickerson and then Kelsey and with Flip I'm forgetting I'm blinking Got it Cam Juergens and Lane Johnson. I really do like that offensive line I think we're gonna be one of the best ones in this next year as well But yeah, I wouldn't mind taking an offensive lineman because we're gonna need them pretty soon But yeah, that's the mock draft for March 21st a Day after CJ Gardner Johnson decided to be a loser and make fun of birds fans and then delete the tweet right after But um, I think that's gonna do it for episode one of the birds pod And I believe that's great of a thing Probably things that can get fixed up But really excited to get this thing going and I hope that the people that are listening stay you along for the ride Thank you
