Central West Riders and Orana Support Services are organizing a mystery ride fundraiser called "Highways for the Homeless" to raise money for a portable shower and washer/dryer for the homeless. The event was successful last year and they hope to meet their target of $6,000-$7,000 again this year. The event includes a registration fee of $30, which includes a ride patch, and there will be free activities, food, and live music at the commercial hotel. There will also be a raffle and auction with vouchers and donated items. The mystery route will include a stop at a place with a name starting with "D". There are also plans for another big event in a few months. You're on Zoos, Brecky! Central West Riders, in conjunction with Orana Support Services, are this weekend holding a mystery ride in show and shine fundraiser titled, Highways for the Homeless in fundraising support for the purchase of a portable shower and washer slash dryer machine for vulnerable people and homeless in the community. To give us the full rundown of what's going on tomorrow, with me on the phone is the co-founder of the Central West Riders, Darrell Harvey, good morning. How you doing, mate? I'm alright, how are you? It's going to be a busy weekend. Oh yeah, it usually is. It's the second time we've done it, so we've had a little bit of practice. Oh right, so how'd the last event go? It was huge. I thought it didn't go, but it was unavailable. It went really well. Hoping to beat the target this year. What was the target last year? Well, we thought, um, the van's going to cost, you know, thousands of dollars. And we were hoping to make around $6,000 or $7,000 last year, and we sort of got there. So we're hoping for the same again this year. How did this event originally start? How did it come together? What was your inspiration to help put this event together? Our club does charity rides. We set the club up to do that about six years ago. And Georgie Anne and Tina from Arama Support came up with the idea and asked us, would we be involved? And yes, we got into it. What's the schedule of the day looking like tomorrow? We go up to Devil Hollow at about 8.30 for registration. We take off at 9.30. We do our mystery ride, which we've got all planned out. And we get back at the commercial hotel about 2.30. And then there we have a lot of stuff for people to do. Is there any sort of costs regarding registration or attending the event? Yeah, registration's $30 to go on the ride. And that includes getting a ride patch. So that's worth $15. And then there's no charge to go to the commercial. You can bring your family. There's free popcorn and fairy floss for the kids at the playground and some live music and food. Is there a raffle going on at the commercial? Yeah, we've got a raffle and an auction. Right, what's some of the things that are being auctioned or raffled there? Oh, we've got lots of vouchers from places because bikers love vouchers because they don't have to carry them home on their bikes. Yeah, of course. But we've also got other things that have been donated by business houses around town. You know, sort of toys and all sorts of things. Can you give us any hints, just a small hint, on what the mystery route may look like? Oh, we're stopping at a place with a D for the name. Oh, right. All right, that's enough of a hint. OK, so what was that? Was it D or V? D. Right. Well, thank you for coming on, Darrell. It's been an amazing chat. I'm glad this event is so well organised tomorrow. It sounds like you already know what you're doing and it's going to be absolutely brilliant for a great cause. Yeah, we've got a really big one coming up in a couple of months as well, but I'll get on to you, I'll let you know about that later. Oh, right, OK, yeah, that's a conversation for another time, but that sounds good as well. You're on Zoo Breakfast.
