The speaker is live from the studio and introduces several students who will be discussing the upcoming student week at Wellspring University. They explain that the student week is a fun week for students to relax and have fun. They also mention different events that will take place during the week, such as the Miss Wellspring pageant and the old school day. The students express their excitement for these events and discuss their views on the student week. They also mention some of the challenges and conflicts that can occur during the week. The speaker provides a rundown of all the activities scheduled for the student week, including community service, sports and games festival, and a concert with a guest artist. The students share their thoughts on the events they are looking forward to, such as the pageantry and the inter-house party. They discuss the importance of maintaining their image and confidence during the week. Hello, good morning, everyone. We're live from the studio in Wellspring University. Time check is 11.31 a.m. and I'm here with a 300-level student of Mass Communication, Wellspring. We'll be having a quick discussion on the happenings in Wellspring for next week. I'll have them introduce themselves. From my far right here, we have... My name is Yadu, my name is Adria Dene. And who else do we have in the studio? My name is Usunde Etusa Precious. Okay. My name is Itiodu Favo. I remain Osavo Memeri. Okay, thank you for coming to the studio. And we'll be discussing a quick one on student week. Like you all know, student week will be commencing from, I think the first on Monday, second or third, presumably, down till the end of that week. And there are a whole lot of activities coming up for your pleasure here in Wellspring University. We'll be doing a quick one on the student week. We'll have a quick discussion on certain things that I would want the students to comment on and share their views and opinion about. Before we go, let's just quickly run down some summary of what we'll be discussing about the student week events that I'll be looking forward to. Some of the enjoyable moments that you must have experienced in the course of the student week prior to this very one for the year 2024. And there are new categories that have been added to the award and nominees. And a very good one, a fake wedding. Hmm, that sounds very interesting. Okay, let's quickly get down to business of the day. Now, Merit, we'll be starting with you. What is the student week about? Can you just give us a quick rundown of what the student week is about? The student week is just like a week dedicated for students, like within the whole semester, not every day or every week of the semester is meant for just lectures, lectures, lectures. So it's just like a fun week for students to have fun and all of that. Okay, okay, okay. Precious, what's your view of the student week? Well, I would like to say that the student week is not the school, if you come to school to learn, yeah, but it's not only about learning. So they put the student week in between every second semester so that the students will be able to be free, like be free to understand and all those stuff. Yeah, just relax yourself from all school activities. Okay, Ms. Faber, let's have your opinion. Okay, my own view, the student week is like a week of activities organized by students to foster the relationship among ourselves, to discover maybe new friends, new activity, new talent that you can encourage among students. Okay, okay, Ms. Mary? I feel like the student week is a week dedicated for students out of all the chaos and work, work, class, class that we have throughout the semester. It is like its own particular week brought out by the SEC, our Administrative Students Board, for all students to just mingle and have fun because like the saying goes, all work and no play, dirty dog. Dirty dog, okay, okay, okay, that's a very good one from Ms. Mary. Like you said, chaos, hmm, school to school, chaos, chaos, chaos in a sense, when you say chaos, what do you really mean about chaos? Can you elaborate more on that? Like when in university, we cannot just go into class, classes and go back to our hotels. Obviously, things happen, we are still children, we are still learning, so there are times where we fight, we argue, there are a lot of things that goes on. People have arguments with lecturers and everything. People have disagreements, so there's just a lot of chaos going on in the school. Okay, okay, so you think that the student week is a week to just relax, ease off from the stress, the hustle and bubble of school activities. Okay, that's a very good one. Okay, so we're looking at our second question. What events are you looking forward to? I know there are a whole lot lined out for pleasure. So many things that we should be looking out for, the Glamour event, I think the Miss Wellspring, those social activities that almost all the students in the university will be looking forward to. So let me just ask Ms. Fivo, which of the events are you particular about or you're really eager to see? For me personally, I'm very eager to see Mr. and Mrs. Wellspring. Oh. It's something that will make me feel good. Okay, I think that's going to hold on a Thursday. Yes, on a Thursday. Okay. From morning to evening. The whole day. The whole day. In the morning, they'll use it to practice. Then in the evening, they will now show their talent. Oh, wow, wow, that is the face of Wellspring. Pageantry and picking of Mr. and Mrs. Wellspring. Yes. Okay, I think there's something particular about Mr. and Mrs. Wellspring you're eager to see. I'm eager to just see their talent. There's going to be a lot of just for laughs, Dante. Just for me, laugh. Laugh, oh, okay, okay. Do you have anybody in mind you're rooting out for or? Not really, because most of them are 100 levels. I don't really vibe with them. Oh, okay. I don't know them at all. Okay, okay. Ms. Precious. All right, what events are you looking forward to? The face of Wellspring. Oh, the face. That means you're also looking out for the pageantry. Yes. Okay. Any particular thing about looking forward to that? Well, I don't like the face of Wellspring, so one of the things why I like the face of Wellspring is that it's like a form, like the group of people that will choose from each department. Okay. Will come on their traditional way, come and dance. So I just like that day. That particular event. Yeah. Or that Thursday. Yes. Which are you looking forward to? I'm looking forward to the old school day. Oh, the old school day. Yes. I would love to see the costumes that most of them are going to wear. Okay, you're not with the school of thought that are going for the pageantry. No, no. You just want to see the old school day. Okay. Old school day is scheduled for Tuesday. I think starts by 5 p.m. at the old school day. Nollywood theme dressing. Old school. And then there's the old school movie night. Isn't anybody particular about that? Who would handle any? Ah. Okay. Let me just give a quick rundown of the activities that would be scheduled so that some other persons can maybe have a change of mind and see if they might want to listen or attend to a particular event aside from the one Miss Fay Vouchers, the Miss Pageantry, and then Precious. So for Monday, I'll be having community service. It's themed Every Child a Meal and also the Freshers' Party, the Glow in the Dark. I think I scheduled that activity for Monday scheduled to run from 4.30 p.m. to 8 p.m. And on Tuesday from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. will be the old school day Nollywood theme dressing. I'm thinking we'll be going for Nollywood actors and actresses. Yeah, Aki and Popo. Aki and Popo's style theme dressing and the old school movie night. Ah, I don't think I know. I have an idea of the particular movie they will be seeing but that's something the students will be looking forward to. And on Wednesday from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. it will be the turn of Sports and Games Festival in Taosport and also the Rave Party. Mm-hmm. Yeah. Now, nobody ever seen that. No, that has to be what I'm looking forward to. Oh, that means I've actually not gone down to Miss Mary. Okay, just hold your thoughts. For Thursday, Feast of Wellspring, the pageantry and picking of Mr. and Mrs. Wellspring. That is his favorite particular event she's looking forward to. And also Miss Precious. For Friday, we'll be having a cultural day O-1 Vet themed party slash TGIF party. This is gonna be fun. Friday, we gonna party. Also on Saturday from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m. That's a very long one for that day. We'll be having Get Fit Morning. That's the exercise and concert with a guest artist. Yeah. Ah, the guest artist, nobody knows that. No. It's a secret. It's a secret from the S-C-C-D-C. That's good. And on Sunday will be the sun for Thanksgiving, dinner and award night. That's scheduled to take place from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. That's a quick rundown of the activities for the student week. Now let's move on to Miss Mary. You said you're looking forward to the rave party on Wednesday. Rave, no. I'm looking forward to the inter-house party. Oh, the inter-house party. Yes. You're not gonna be attending or looking forward to the rave party? The rave is there, but the inter-house party has to be there. Okay, what is that particular thing you're looking forward to in the inter-house party? According to our president, he said they want to bring back secondary school vibes, so that's why they're having the inter-house party. And it's weird, because everybody in school is raving. They are doing, steez, steez. I'm not supposed to be lowering my steez, say again. But no, they are bringing back a secondary school themed event. Like there's going to be tug of war. There's going to be sacrifice. There's going to be filling the bottle. That's supposed to be fun. It's supposed to be. So we're expecting to see fun. Okay. Mary, she talked about steez. What do you have to say about that, lowering steez? I think I'm hearing that for the first time. Okay, so let's hear your thoughts on that. When she says lowering steez, you know, she's talking about the inter-house sports where some students might not really want to participate because, like she said, let me quote her, lowering their steez. Yeah, composure. What do you mean by lowering their steez? Everybody in this school are actually like trying to be a big boy and big girl, even if their mom is pet at home. Oh! Everybody wants to perform like they are big and all of that, as if that wants them in their school. So they don't want something that will bring down their steez, which is their pride, their confidence. Okay, now I get where students come from. Riko, what do you have to say about that? She is 100%. I don't know why you lower your steez in this school. For example, finish it. Really, Riko, who came up with that lowering your steez? That's a popular slang. Okay, within the school? Within Nigeria. Oh, within Nigeria? Yes. How come I haven't heard about it? It's all over TikTok. TikTok slang. And Miss Precious, what do you have to say about that? Do you have an opinion, contrary or in support of lowering your steez? No. Okay. No, sir. I don't have any. Oh, you don't have any? Yes. Okay, I think that will work well. Okay, moving forward, what enjoyable moments have you experienced from the previous editions of the Student Week? Miss Feeble. Okay, so in the previous edition, that was in 200 level. Okay. I enjoyed the parties, but I didn't really enjoy the last party, the TGIF, because the DJ was not really giving like that. We were not playing the same music all over again. Oh, is it for the Friday party or the rave party as we have it in Nigeria? No, the rave party right now is new. Okay, the rave party is new. Okay, it's more or less like the TGIF party for the previous edition. Like before, we used to have, most times we used to have like after party every day after an event, used to be after party. But now, I think they've reduced it. Oh, okay, oh, okay. Okay, so it was more or less like after an event for the day, it's more of a relaxing yourself, shake it out, shake it out, and then, oh, okay, so it has changed over time. Yes, I think to give it more time and space for new activities. To come up, okay, okay, okay. So Miss Mere, what event, what enjoyable moments have you experienced from previous editions of the Student Week? I enjoyed the gender swap last time when I was in 211, but it was cut short. Okay. My phone was cut short by the management. Oh. Yes, but it was enjoyable. I don't think we have that lined up as an activity. No, that's been scrapped. Oh, scrapped. Never ever come up, but again, they have banned it, government have banned it. If we put this out to other students, do you think they might also say something similar or have an opinion like you do of having it back or leaving it scrapped completely? No, people want it back because it was very fun and exciting. Okay, when we talk about gender swap, if I'm correct, it's more like the male putting on the female clothing and then the female's folks putting on the male clothing. Yes, that's why it was removed because parents do not understand that it's just a means of fun and part of the student week. A lot of people feel like it's transgender and LGBTQ and parents do not want their children to participate in that kind of activity. Okay, okay. Ms. Nerit, do you share the same opinion? Yes, I do, even if I didn't participate. I was already enjoying the different gender swap dresses that I was seeing already. Okay, okay. But what enjoyable moments have you experienced? Okay, so then I was in 100 level. So, there was this guy, he must come. I'd already done it like two years ago. I was like, come, we want to go for the precious party. I'm like, I don't want to go. He said, no, forget your own training, come. Just come and attend. So, yes, I actually came out of my shell that night. I went for the precious party, so yeah. But you really enjoyed it? Yes, I did, I did. Oh, it was fun? Yes, it was fun. Okay, okay. Ms. Precious, what moments have you enjoyed so far from previous editions? Okay, when I was in 200 level, I enjoyed the Feast of Wellspring. Okay, the Feast of Wellspring. I think that's the pageantry and picking up Mr. and Mrs. Wellspring, I think. Yes. Okay, okay. What stood out from that particular event that made you enjoy the Feast of Wellspring? Okay, I like the way other departments and our department came with their costumes. Or more, that day was us. Okay, okay, okay. I think somebody really enjoyed themselves. So we should be looking forward to a better edition of the Feast of Wellspring today. Okay, next week rather. Okay, okay. Ah, that's a very good one. Okay, moving forward. Do you think Wellspring can pull off a fake wedding? Because I think that's a very good one for the school. It's never been done, if I stand to be corrected, that has never been done in the school, a fake wedding. Fake wedding, fake wedding comes with different things. A lot of things. A lot of things, picking up a wedding, cash wedding, the groomsmen. Groomsmen, grooms family. Bridal, grooms family and all. Do you think Wellspring can pull off a fake wedding this year? I think I like this concept. Ms. Mary. The idea is nice, don't get me wrong. But I feel like this is poorly arranged. Like, they did not plan this thing. They just thought of it last minute and tried to add it to spice up the student week. Because it takes a lot to plan a fake wedding. And most times, a fake wedding is not added in the student week. Because it takes a lot of time, a lot of everything. Of course, financial. Exactly, to plan a fake wedding. And I feel like a lot of people will not want to. So, I'm not down. When you say private, you mean we have everything? We're not that big compared to the schools. You're looking at financial aspect of it? Financial and, most people that do say a fake wedding, most times, a faculty is not the whole school. We are the whole school because we are small. And a lot of people don't want to put their money. Everybody's like, I beg, I beg, I beg. Let me just go and see. Nobody wants to pay money to go and maybe eat rice or something, buy ashebi. And I mean, they say the ashebi is very cheap anyways. So, I feel like they are making it very affordable for people to participate. But regardless, it is too expensive to make in a student's week. Because they have a lot of expenses that week. Okay, but don't you think there's always a first time to something? We can start from somewhere. At least, this is the first edition for the fake wedding. Okay, this is not the first edition. No, it is the first edition. It's the first edition. Well, it's not a fake wedding that you start with first time to everything. A fake wedding is supposed to be big, supposed to be grand. That is why it's called a fake wedding. There are different things that can be done to a fake wedding. You can have a small wedding, a couple of people coming around, not so much of an extended family as the case may be. So, let's just give them the benefit of doubt to see what they can come up with. Since this is the first edition of that fake wedding, subsequently, I think people can actually see from, okay, these are the mistakes, the errors, and how can we correct and make it grand and better next time. Ms. Favo, what are your thoughts on fake weddings? Well, I think, no. Really? People, no. They cannot do it. They are too broke for this. Why do they even think of it? They cannot. In the student's week, there are a lot of expenses for that week already. Okay. They cannot pull it off. They can't do it. What's your opinion, Ms. Favo? Ms. Precious, rather? I would like to say that, first, we cannot do that fake wedding because, first of all, there are other things packed up in that. For the week. Yes. Okay. So, I don't know how they would do that. I don't know that. Okay. Ms. Mary? Well, for me, I have no take in this. I'm just trying to be optimistic about it. I like that. Sure. Looking forward to it. I like that. She's talking about the benefit of the opportunity. They cannot do it. There are a lot of things. They have to print out fake money. Hey! They cannot do it. They can't. For now, you know, the government has actually banned the printing of money. That's why they want to print out fake one. The fake one, you can actually not really do anything as regards that. The only way you can maybe, maybe, do something of that nature is probably branding faces of people that don't have to. Yes, that's what they do in the fake wedding. They will brand the faces of the groom and the bride on the paper. Because if you print out fake money, normal Nigerian fake money, that's going to be a big problem for the school. But I'm hearing that they want to bring someone to change the money. I just want to believe it's a rumor. That they want to bring real money and spray. We'll have to leave it at that, as a rumor, and then give them the benefit of doubt for that. Also, we are hearing there are newly added categories. The newly added categories, okay. For newly added categories, you have the different HODs coming into play. What are your thoughts about that? What are your thoughts? Do you even know any of the newly added categories? Ms. Precious, can we hear from you? Yes, the newly added categories, okay. We have artist of the year. We have athlete of the year. We have CEO of the year. Hmm, that's a good one. We also have college of the year, dean of the year, department of the year, entrepreneurial mind of the year, fresher squad go, female, fresher squad go, male. Freshest, freshest, fresher squad go, female. Freshest, freshman, female, batch A. Oh, okay. Freshest, freshman, female, batch B. Freshest, freshman, male. Really? Exactly. Freshest, freshest, batch A. Then we have the FYB, most influential female. That's the final year, brethren. We have the FYB, most influential male. We have the FYB, most sophisticated female. We have the FYB, most sophisticated male. We have the FYB, most stylish female. FYB, most stylish male. We have the HOD of the year. We have the lecturer of the year. We have most influential female. We have the most influential male. We have the most popular female, most popular male. Most sophisticated female, most sophisticated male. Most stylish female, most stylish male. Programmer of the year, rookie of the year female. Rookie of the year male. Social media personality, squad go, female. Squad go, male. TikToker of the year, wow. This is a whole lot of category added. I think from my count, I'm looking at over 20 categories that have been added to maybe the regular categories that you have for student week. So out of all these that I've listed, Ms. Figo, what do you think about the newly added category? There are a lot. That was the one with the freshest fresher. Yes. It's not necessary. Why is there batch A and batch B? Why? I think the school have batch A and also batch B. They did not do that last edition. That is why a newly added category. It's to spice up the event, give it more time and more panache about the whole student week. So what are your real thoughts? Do you have a problem with the batch A, batch B, or you think they should be combined into just one? Combined. Okay. And it's not that much. Because there's a lot. I don't know any of them. Ms. Neric, what are your thoughts about the newly added category? That much is your school that bring down to one month. Okay. Ms. Precious, your opinion? I don't have really anything to say. Okay. I would just like to say something that is it too much? I don't know. Too much. The lists are too much. Yeah. Do they need to remove some and leave some or just do away with so many of the categories? Like that, batch A and batch B. Okay, batch B. So. Okay. Of course, they should not put A. I mean, that means it's too long. Okay, that means compress everything into one and just do freshest, fresher male. And then. Yeah. Okay, okay. What do you think about the HOD of the year, lecturer of the year? I think that has to be. Oh, that one. I like that one. Okay, okay. I like it. Ms. Neric, what do you think about the newly added category? Some of them are making sense too. Okay. But some of them, they're just outrageous. Because I don't know why they singled the FYB out of the category. If they gave 300 level to 100 level their own category, then they singled themselves FYB out of it so that everybody, I feel like they're doing this so that everybody will participate. Everybody in final year will participate in that award night. Award night. Exactly. Because I don't know why they singled themselves out. And the HOD and other ones, those ones are, they are smart. Like HOD of the year, the bachelor of the year. Lecturer of the year. College of the year. CSMS, nothing. It's not getting too much. Obviously. They should reduce that one. Those CSMS, COHS is not needed. Okay. Because they've already put HOD of the year, they've already put the bachelor of the year, so I don't feel college of the year should be there too. Okay, okay. Well, I think that would bring us to the end of our discussion. I really, really, really appreciate you guys for taking out time to share in this discussion section. Ms. Neric, thank you for coming. Thank you, sir. Thank you for having me. Precious Ms. Neric. Thank you for having me. Until we meet again next week, hopefully. My name is Iyama Loki. We're signing out from today. So we would like to sample your opinion about what we've discussed thus far. If you've listened to our discussion, you could just jump in, send your comments, suggestion on the link that will be provided. Thank you very much and do have a nice day. Bye for now.
