UNESCO is the United Nations organization for Education, Science and Culture. It was established in Paris on November 4th, 1946. It also works to safeguard and protect sites listed in the world heritage of humanity. In Sicily, there are 7 UNESCO sites listed in the material heritage. They include the archaeological area of Agrigento and the Valley of the Temples, the Roman villa of Casale, the Aeolian Islands, the eight baroque towns of Val di Noto, Syracuse and the necropolis of Pantalica, Mount Etna, Arab-Norman Palermo and the cathedrals of Cefalu and Monreale. Sicily also has two sites listed in the intangible heritage of UNESCO, namely the Opera dei Pupi or Puppet Theater and the Mediterranean Diet. L'UNESCO è l'Organizzazione delle Nazioni Unite per l'Educazione, la Scienza e la Cultura. È stato istituito a Parigi il 4 novembre del 1946. Si impegna anche per la salvaguardia e la protezione dei siti iscritti nel patrimonio mondiale dell'umanità. In Sicilia esistono 7 siti UNESCO iscritti nell'elenco del patrimonio materiale. Essi sono l'area archeologica di Agrigento e la Valle dei Templi, la villa romana del Casale, le isole Olie, le otto città barocche del Val di Noto, Siracusa e la necropoli di Pantalica, il monte Etna, Palermo arabo-normanna e le cattedrali di Cefalù e Murreale. In Sicilia esistono anche due siti iscritti nel patrimonio immateriale dell'UNESCO, ovvero l'Opera dei Pupi o Teatro dei Burattini e la Dieta Mediterranea.
