Self-awareness is crucial for coachability. Asking someone what they have learned about themselves and are committed to improving helps frame their mindset positively. Studies show that most people lack self-awareness, which affects their coachability. The key question is what have you learned about yourself that you are committed to improving. Fundamental questions to improve coachability include what are you doing to seek coaching and put it into action. One of the greatest questions you can ask as it relates to coachability is a self-awareness question. Now, assuming that someone has performed an act of coachability in terms of going out and seeking feedback or receiving coaching or advice from somebody, one of the best questions you can ask somebody is, what did you learn about yourself that you're positively committed to improving going forward? Think about that. What have you learned about yourself is the first part, that you are positively committed to improving going forward. It frames out their mind to go forward positively. Coachability is a very tough topic. Most people will tell you, yeah, I'm pretty coachable. When you think about self-awareness, there are studies out there that actually show most people, 80 to 85 percent of people, lack self-awareness, which would really come at the doorstep of coachability. If you lack self-awareness, you probably aren't going to be the most coachable person that you could be. So, with that being said, that's the key question. What have you learned about yourself that you are positively committed to improving? Now, some fundamental questions are, again, using our word what, what are you going to do to seek greater coachability? What are you doing to improve your coachability? What are you doing to seek coaching and put it into action? Remember, use that word what.
