The hosts of the podcast discuss various sports topics, including the Texas Rangers' recent success in the playoffs and their upcoming series against the Houston Astros. They also talk about the Dallas Stars' season opener and the Dallas Cowboys' recent losses and concerns about their performance. They express disappointment in the Cowboys' quarterback Dak Prescott and the play-calling of the offensive coordinator. Overall, they feel that the Rangers and Stars have potential for success, but have doubts about the Cowboys. Welcome to officially episode 2 of the spod pod. My name is Jared sitting in with Austin How are you, man? Good, dude, ready to get back at it. Yeah, it's been all 14 of our listeners. We're hanging on I know we had to say to talk in and say something stupid. So let's do it. Yeah We can't we can't go anywhere without talking about the Rangers first Yeah, what an exciting ride this has been the past, you know a couple couple weeks Finishing out the regular season, you know Fighting for a playoff spot really at one point. They were out of the playoffs and then with Three or four games left of the season. They had a chance to To win the division fell short on the last game of the season but have have gone through the first, you know, the wild card and The ALDS and have have not lost a game they've been trailing for one inning only one out I think is what the stat was that I saw they trail for one out of the entire playoffs Yeah, and like the Tampa Bay series. It was kind of okay. I think They'll probably get through Tampa Bay Tampa Bay was kind of struggling not struggling But when the same team to in the years they were to start but the Orioles being the Orioles and having not been swept In a series was daunting and they had those left and I think 500 some days or so. Yeah Yeah going back to the last season and it felt dude. Honestly, it feels like the early 2010s or the late 2000s early 2010 the 2009-2010 team. I mean you just have some guys in there that Nobody's really heard of kind of the start, but they just come up and started hammering the ball You know give Aldi throw in the way he does in the playoffs awesome to watch The pitching staff is not young but really I mean the big core Simeon and Seager they have a little bit of simian more so than Seager have a little bit of age, but The most part I mean the core people who are making this thing run Specifically speaking Evan Carter Josh young. Yeah, you rip two rookies man. It's awesome to see the See what we've got to see a dollar coming back to dude Derby yeah What is your prediction in the in the CS against the star Astros? I Will say it's going to be tough man Rangers for four games the two Rangers Because that's what I was gonna say is Rangers and six But if it's like If it goes to seven, I don't think the Rangers can do it the win in Houston game seven Now we have to win game six if we don't Houston's been there Seven years in a row for Houston, which is insane to think about but it is I mean It would be hard to beat them in game seven. So Rangers in six Rangers in six for both of us It's going to be awesome man. If we see if we see some some World Series run right here and And DFW would be great to see. Yeah, it'd be great to roll right into a Nassau Super Bowl parade in February Shout-out to Corey Seeger, by the way, just what he's what he's been able to do this year He just I've watched a lot more baseball and listen to just about literally every game this year On the radio or on TV and he's just he's just made it so much fun, man It's awesome what he has been able to do with the bat and defensively him and Simeon I think I told you a step we were talking about a step the other day that this defense's Recorded the third least amount of errors in MLB history. I'm pretty sure in like the 162 game era. It's crazy That's pretty nuts. It's nice to see the money moves pay off, you know Like I mean, I know we went and got the ground and didn't really like pan out Like everyone hoped it would I mean he had some really good starts and won some games and stuff to start the year But the other two guys Simeon and Seeger having been here already a year kind of coming into their own and those money moves paying off It's pretty awesome to see and having to grow him for I mean, I think we tied him in for five years Who knows if he can stay healthy, but if he can If he gives us, you know, one or two seasons, that's that's great for what we have built right now. Yeah for sure I don't know if it's great for I'll raise wallet, but uh Hey, man, if I win he'll make it back if they win a World Series Yeah Can't go much further without talking about the Stars starting off their season the other night with with the shootout victory Which is awesome. Awesome. Awesome to see for this team. I know it's one game in Yeah, that is something that they've struggled with the last the last few years Really is these these close games that overtime games the one goal games. They yeah, don't win them I'm excited to see the Stars this year and what changes they made, you know Sadly, I can't sit here and say all them all season moves that they made but one thing they had to fill with some physicality especially at the end of the season like you could tell when we got enough playoff runs if we didn't come out and score three Goals quick in the first period or two in the first period and jump out to a lead Teams could just sound physical especially at the end something that I think that needs to be talked about and again one game in one game in But I was listening to some people talk about it on the radio yesterday or Thursday something like that and Robo only had I think three shots taking the whole game and it was like it how he was in the playoffs all over again Something that's snake with the dude where he something. I don't know something that it's crazy because when he shoots the puck a lot I mean, he's an animal man. Yeah, he he puts pucks on net, but he's just got to do it All right, I guess we can transition into So why why we're why we're really here the bane of our existence the Dallas Cowboys through week five We're sitting at three and two We've taken a taken a tough tough one on the chin by the Arizona Cardinals Since we last talked and we just took a pretty brutal beat down by the other San Francisco 49ers this last week I mean, it's the worst. I've I remember it the Broncos when I was Ready to do or whatever. That was that one sucked. That was brutal this I think this one hurts a little bit worse just because of All the hype coming into it just what this game meant to you Yeah fan base not just the team the fan base. This was a measuring stick to to the hope really of I'll call it Dallas Cowboys nation Dude, I told some guys we were waiting on this game for for nine months now since the playoff game last year I'm I told some people at work that like The one thing that made me nervous is the way our players talked about it compared to the way the 49ers players talked about it And I get that it was a different game like we were looking at it like hey we needed to beat these guys, but eventually like we held up like It was if we didn't win It was absolutely the end of the season the 49ers seemed like they took that and ran with it and they were like we want To put these guys into the ground and make them understand their place and it felt that way and it's a scary thought because All of the aspirations that I had after the first Two weeks and really even after the Patriots game like okay, this team can bounce back. We're gonna be okay Just out the door because it's like you kind of see where we're at. So for you where what is this team? I think I want to say on on episode one of our first episode He said going into Arizona that this was a game that you were nervous about Yeah, and that this felt like one of these games that you know, we could slip up and that you said that You thought it would determine, you know, or tell us what this team is So, what do you what do you think this team is after after five weeks? dude, honestly, I think Sadly I think we're like a lot of a lot of bark without as much pot as we wanted to have So I have a specially oh, yeah, dude, I mean mark Parsons is a freak he's a monster But three pass rusher Yes but I mean teams are figuring out ways to get past that and The guys that we thought we're gonna be stepping up like especially in the 49ers game Jerome curse had a terrible game You know and my office he's supposed to be the guy that helps pick that defense up and do something and he did nothing but hurt us in San Francisco game and on the offensive side like That Prescott I've been a Dak believer I've stood behind him for so long, but I just like you know, I can't say he's the guy anymore It's I mean some of the throws and shit. He made awful, but yeah, I'm a car being a play caller is also Something else to watch out for because he sucked Yeah, and that's that's what I mean really that's that's that's the conversation right now that we need to be having is We've seen Dak play bad You've never seen Dak look this incompetent in my mind Yeah, well did in this is supposed to be far more simplified Yeah, and be honest I mean we were praising him after the first two weeks because it looked like it was gonna be okay That was the thing it looked clean, but now look at the teams that we beat and you're like, okay well exactly that's one thing but then the way he's come out in the place that he's designed and called and Like CD the fact that he just doesn't have he just doesn't get the ball. Yeah Figure out ways to get ball in the playmakers hands Like I do not understand what he's doing when I feel like the games that were throttling people in that's what's happening Yeah, it's his game. We were feeding. We it was a point. It was obviously was a point to you know Feed Michael Gallop early. We got him going and then CD lamb just started feasting as soon as they reacted to that Yeah, it's also a lot harder to get guys going though when you're behind the eight ball because you know the fumble by Pollard I'm all or fourth possession. So I said it first pick like Something that I I don't want to blame 40 what was it? 42 points? I think right? Yeah Yeah, I don't I don't think that is a true resemblance of what this defense is no When your offense is not doing anything to help you. There's Three minutes in the first 15 What about three minutes, bro? Like and that wasn't because the defense wasn't getting you off the field Yeah, I mean sure they were they scored I think a field goal start the game and then we get a we get a punt and the offense that's that was the Tony Pollard fumble and then they go and score and then it's you know 10 out and then I Mean, there's I think offensively is really Really? What's killing our defense right now? I don't I don't think defense truly has that many clearing issues other than Sure, they let up 42 points against the team that throttles a lot of people they bear down on you and when they're on the field as much They are they're gonna score. Yeah. Yeah, I don't know. I just All the hope I had after that 49ers game and to be honest with you It sucks worse because of the Cardinals loss like coming into this week against the Chargers This game is going to be something that like it's not an easy game to play the Chargers are still a really scrappy team and I don't know like at worst. I thought we were gonna be four and one coming into this game No, I agree. I don't disagree with that Maybe three and three to start the season is not a spot that we can afford to be in something to also talk about so sitting at three and two Obviously the Eagles are sitting at five and oh right now. We're sitting second in the NFC East But whenever this season started before for week one Three and two we thought was honestly Realistic because we thought we were going to be playing the chess with Aaron Rodgers. I think that that was yes I mean that I mean three and two seemed like it was a Pretty likely outcome for us to be sitting at at this point Yeah, I mean, I guess when you put it that way it makes a little bit of sense but it just makes going into a game against the team like the Chargers is At three and two it's a little nerve-wracking Especially with the way that we've been felt like offensively you have to score points. The Chargers are another team like they're gonna score points Can our offense take you know advantage of their defenses? Inefficiencies enough to score it up like to stay with them. Well, there's the thing Earlier in the week. I just actually pulled it up to look at it earlier in the week this line was sitting at three points and And right now sitting at one and a half So that tells you what what everyone thinks about this game? Yeah, and here's another step for you Games that the public money has been up like the teams that have the most public money better Um have won 56% of the time this year so The public's kind of beating the books so far this year in the NFL. That's pretty crazy Yeah, man, this Chargers team is good they got Austin Eckler back he was he was questionable last week, so I think They just gave him that extra Little bit of a little bit of rest to be sure and I think he's gonna be fully ready to go Keenan Allen's been going crazy this year Telling her I mean you already said it Think this is a game that he's gonna come in and he's gonna try to put up a hundred points on this team Yeah, and what's scary with? You know the spots that we have You know Injuries in like cornerback. I Trust her on bland. He's a good cornerback. He can hold his own out there While I'm worried about playing against Keenan Allen right now is where I'm nervous Yeah, but I'm worried about the linebackers, you know, we've got anything for Sean Evans Trying to stay on Austin Eckler, you know, tell him more is gonna do everything he can to take advantage of that So I would is that gonna be more than Wilson task? Probably I mean him or We're gonna see 11 Back in the you know middle linebacker position trying to be out there in coverage He's he's one of the few guys that can actually drop back and probably run with Austin Eckler at times But what's his knowledge of being able to get into coverage because he does get beat sometimes in coverage He does I think that there is a cool possibility that we could see some Some other things happen with the injury to Leighton Banderas You said that we can see Parsons move off ball a little bit more playing Playing a middle or a weak side linebacker role What is that going to do for guys like Sam Williams who really hasn't got to see the field a whole lot? Dante Fowler's been kind of taking the majority of those snaps behind behind Micah behind tank so Sam Williams getting to produce some more is going to be good to see because This guy's a freak man. Yeah, I'm just gonna be honest This guy is a freak and I think he has so much potential to be a really really really good defensive end for us Yeah, no for sure And it just sucks because One of the broad spots in the preseason that I was super hopeful for was our depth at linebacker with overshown coming in and being able to make a difference and then Now with Sandra's going down, you know, you lose that that broad spot now you lose your leader on the defense Fuck man Yeah, but this is where you know Michael wants to talk about trash about being the guy being the guy that's gonna bring down you know bring Dallas to the Super Bowl and You better do something dude like you can't have the 49ers and I know we just said that it wasn't all on the defense, but When a lot of people are gonna look at it where you give a 42 whether or not you're on short field whether or not You're on the field You gave up 42 like you want to be that dog that you talked about being the lion. You better go out and get it All right, so go ahead and get it. What's your prediction for the game? Cowboys 32 Chargers 28 32 28 All right, you're gonna hear something crazy that you probably have not ever heard. I'm saying Chargers 27 cowboys 24. Oh my I think we take the hell Yeah at the late lat like Fourth quarter drive just The game when I think we're gonna have a dry I think we're gonna have a drive to go tie it and I think we're gonna do something stupid in this It's not a pig. I'm not saying that it might be Bad just running out of time through bad clock management by Mike McCarthy Fine. God knows he's very fumble by a player My McCarthy stick back to get us out of the range on third down something stupid, you know, yeah So yeah, I'm thinking Chargers 27 24 Yeah, that's I Hate it. Probably a good day All right, so the next thing we're going to get into is going to be Some parlay actions some some NFL lines that we'd like Do you want to get us started on on our kickoff game? Yeah, dude So to start the best game is going to be the Jets plus six and a half Like I love it against Philly man. I love me and Philly. I think that Philly is it's really been down this year I think the just defense is really really good still. I gotta stop stop. I Agree with you to an extent but people are gonna say Jared you say Philly's been down there five and oh Every week that they are finding a way to win man I know I know but I do agree with you Jalen Carter being out the cornerback there Sad but I don't know which corners out but their secondary has been the weekly night defense It's a plea all year. And so I know it's Zach Wilson, but the Jets still have a good defense They're missing out on a lot of that pressure though And a lot of that pressure on the Philly defense has been coming from Jalen Carter in the middle of the middle of that Offensive one kind of middle of that defensive line. Yeah, so with him being out that's a big that's a big hit six And I have a lot of points. It is huge especially being at home for the Jets Yeah, and they're you know, they're kind of rallying I know there's been a lot of talk about Zach Wilson, but they played Okay in the recent games. I had a shot, you know against Kansas City So if you can still get this at six and a half, I like I like him to keep it to at least six Yeah, next one Detroit minus three at Tampa Bay. So a favorite on the road, but It's hard to go against the Detroit team. That's rolling right now. I mean Puts up 40 on this team. I really do Tampa, I'm sorry. I'm sorry I think Lions put up 40 on Tampa. Yeah. Yeah, I think it's I think it's not even gonna be close and Baker, you know, he's played well bird. He has Coming to you. That's all yeah But I think Aiden Hudgeson in this He's a lot of young crazy and could make it, you know tough for him You know, which is a lot of drafting wide defensive ends, bro Yeah dude, we could have saw we could have seen Aiden Hudgeson and Jalen Carter on the same defensive lawn and The Lions fucked up their draft so hard and you know, they brought to the thing that they won't even use and now he's hurt yeah, like Crazy that is crazy to think about. Oh my gosh Detroit minus three. I think it's a good one. And then the next one Washington plus two at Atlanta doesn't Ritter never lost a home game, but Never lost a home game. I saw that That's college and NFL. He's five and oh in the NFL Washington though, I think I think Atlanta's down. I don't I don't think that they're a very good football team Dijon is good, but Washington has a good defense that has been kind of shoddy this year But I expect him to show up against a kind of sloppy team Yeah, and you know Washington was right there against Philly. That was another game that Philly Allowed a team to stay in with them and I know they didn't have I mean quite frankly Riverboat Ron should have gone for the gone for the two-point conversion and just ended it. Yeah Yeah, what an idiot and Washington didn't look great against Buffalo last week, but I mean There was a lot of Buffalo good. Yeah, they're good They looked great that game But like I still think Sam how is a decent quarterback and I think he played great in that last drive against Buffalo, man He looked like he was gonna go win that football game or not. It's like not Buffalo against Philly. Yeah, and people forget Darosey is Still one of the best in the NFL for sure. The enemy is a monster So, I mean Washington plus two if you can get them at plus two, I feel like they could win out right easy I agree. I like it. I think I think they definitely they definitely covered it So and now me and you are split on the last leg of this parlay and I'll go first and with mine is the Ravens minus five and a half and You're insane. It's scary because it's a London game playing early, but the way the Ravens That's against the Titans, yes, yes, I know they lost against Pittsburgh last week But they should have won that game by three touchdowns. I think the Ravens are proving they should have but they didn't Lamar Jackson has something to prove you know, John Harbaugh is a really good football coach and They just lost a divisional opponent They're gonna come out ready to just stomp somebody in the dirt and I think the Titans are The perfect team for that because I hope you're right I need they're just not looking great right now like the Titans I Think they're they're in trouble with their players. So all right. Well, I think you're an idiot. I think that Titans definitely keep that close in London and I think instead you should go with Seattle plus three at Cincinnati Think Cincinnati has had a few good weeks of offense. I don't even think few is the right term maybe a couple Joe Burrow has been Giantly intermittent this year. The offense is looks stale and Quite frankly Seattle has a young defense that is getting better every single week Devin Witherspoon might be the defensive rookie of the year a cornerback dude just is around the ball constantly and Gino Smith just keeps getting it done man. All they do is win football games. They're not anything spectacular this year but they're a improving football team and Lane was talking about it the other day man Pete Carroll hats off to the dude. I mean, he's just a good football coach He really is. Yes done it everywhere at every level and I think he's gonna have this team ready to play and I think Seattle Quite frankly, I write wins this game against Sesi Yeah, I mean, I don't hate that pig I just think that There's a game since he absolutely has to have especially as a team that people were looking at as to make another run and Since he's defense is nothing to sleep on like they have a good defense. So if they can hold, you know to be in normal, you know and then Joe Burrow and Jamar Chase can just have a you know a game that they're used to having Witherspoon makes me a little nervous, but I still think that tomorrow Chase can have a big game against him No, we'll see. It'll be a good one What a pick by Seattle on Witherspoon, by the way I think for sure that six overall is the first corner in that draft last year For this this past draft and Seattle's always no one had him as the top corner I mean there were I guess I can't say no one but he was not the consensus No, but none of the others were said to go that high and they they took a reach on it. He's been spectacular man He's been awesome. I Mean look at their pics, you know the last few years going back to DK even Taking Smith and Jigva. They're running back Kenneth Walker Kenneth Walker. I mean This year that he's a stud to Line is pretty solid. Honestly. Yeah, I mean I don't care what the movie draft day says Seattle there's a much better drafting teams in Cleveland. No, I agree. I Don't know Cleveland's got a squad man Yeah, they have a solid solid roster. I'd like that defense they are Yeah I'm just making making some talk. I think that that defense is really really good Way better than the Cowboys defense. I'll say that they show up to play every week That's very true All right, I guess the last thing on our list we'll get into a little bit of Grand Fantasy League talk. Yeah, it's been a quite the first quite the first first quarter he's It's been pretty fast pace. It's been Back and forth all over wins and losses everyone kind of going back and forth a lot In three three and two is kind of their range that everyone said that still separate use We have to talk we'll start we'll start with the bottom three I got the bottom three teams here and I've got their points Sitting at number ten we got Ben Ben is sitting at 572 points for the year and for those of you that are not in our fantasy league we do some Different non-conventional scoring options. We do half-point PPR. We have a defensive player and a defense So it's a little bit different So 572 through through five weeks number 11 is Cameron at 521 So that's a pretty big jump there from 572 to 521 at 11 to Cameron After week one two, I know cuz he Yeah Number 12 is Hunter Hughes right now at four hundred and fifty five points. I Mean not even a hundred a week close. I can't even imagine The man I think they don't turn it around I think dental period out hunter hunters got some work to make I mean One in four right now. Yeah, it's a long season. That's brutal That is brutal 455 He's got some work to do for sure Top three guys that are kind of leading the pack right now. Really? I kind of had a fall off the last couple of weeks I was sitting up there Three and I read. Yeah, you're number one I was I think I don't I can't remember when it was but I was second second place through through three weeks and then took two L's in a row and Just not not looking great Austin Eckler my first round pick has been Obviously John since week one so that's been a killer for me but top three sitting at three is Hagan at 614 He's had a little bit of a come up the last couple weeks lanes team is coming back alive sitting at number two with 635 points and then really just taking a lead to the top spot Bryce's team has been Insane, he took his first loss this last week. Thank God. I didn't know if he was ever gonna lose But if you would go and look he's so sorry. He's sitting at 727 points and Almost a hundred points over Second place. I can't wait till he falls off a cliff dude. It's down to happen. It's gonna happen Bryce I'm sorry, but your team has to take a nosedive. It's not that good. You have some players that are popping off right now you've got Arguably, you know the best player in fantasy football, but you're not gonna keep scoring 150 a week, but I hate to tell you no He's going down this week, dude. I got in this week Mean you're both sitting right outside the top three years sitting at four. I'm sitting at five We're hanging in there it's not bad not bad pickings right now sit in the playoffs till we take six to the playoffs In our league six to the to the Blazers bracket, so it's a 12-12 team I Guess we should talk about Josh cuz Josh's team Looking at it he uh He's been scoring a lot of points. I feel like or he had a couple weeks scoring really high points He went toe-to-toe with Bryce and like where it was They both scored like 150 or 160 or something he lost like half a point or something stupid like that So he's had some good weeks, but he's Panicking on his roster right now, dude Yeah Josh is a classic panic He's gonna turn his roster over three four times by the end of the year and then bitch about things not working out and wonder Why he's sitting at six at the time playoffs come around if he'd let go of his guys he drafted So we'll say that I so I just completed a trade with him this week and I I think he probably got the better value Right now we'll see how it plays out. I'm not playing the guy that I got from him this week He's definitely gonna start so I sent Darren Waller tight end Didn't dare waller yard. He's he came out and said that he's playing so I've got Laporta Who's my starter? I drafted him in the last round of the draft and Had him sitting on my bench and he's obviously taken off and not started in the last few weeks so I put Waller on the block and So I got I got Drake London for Darren Waller straight up and I I think that the value I mean It's it's it's a decent trade. I got a wide receiver a team's wide receiver one He's not a real wide receiver one, but you know, he's been producing some 10-point games the last few weeks So we'll see what happens there and then he flipped He flipped Mark Andrews T Higgins and Daniel Jones to Bryce and he got back Keenan Allen Connor Henry and Anthony Richardson Anthony Richardson's on IR Connor Henry, I guess the Patriots offenses and shambles. I mean, it's terrible. He got Keenan Allen, which don't get me wrong That's awesome. But he gave up Mark Andrews and T Higgins for Keenan out. I Mean, yeah, he's 37 years old and probably gonna pay It's Joe Burrow does finally start being to Burrow again and You know, the Cincinnati Bengals offense decides to wake up T Higgins could be a monster. Yeah. No, I don't disagree We'll see what happens right now He's going into scramble mode All right, so that's gonna be it for this episode to Want to thank everyone for listening and it's been a little bit different of an episode, but I think it was fun Yeah, see how the listeners like it and hopefully we can get back get back sooner for everyone listening Get another episode out to the guys Sometime sometime next week.
