17. Hot Take Episode, Commanders Love, Robby's Intro

Hello everybody welcome back to the play action podcast. I got to press the button this time, and I'm joined here with Ryan. Yeah We're back We're so ready to know I'm taking over this time on the play action podcast We are having a hot takes episode for the 2023 NFL season and as I announced on the previous episode today is the hot takes episode which means Either next week or the following week. We will have our mock draft episode I'll be here Robbie will be here. We might get Ben here. We might get another person here. Just have a great mock draft here so Hope you guys are excited for that Robbie. You know what you're taking over. It's your podcast It's the Robbie. It's the play action podcast. Yes, Ryan Yeah, I'm your special guest now apparently And Robbie what are we gonna do today as both of us have said at least one time thus far We are doing a hot take Yeah, what do you mean is yes Robbie you've been fired from your own egg the podcast and I'm very much ready to I Don't know how this is gonna Robbie has not been on the podcast for like two months now. It's been absurd. He's Actually have in the movie theaters for two months We are we do have some news day before we get to the hot takes Jimmy Graham The Saints tight end has been arrested by police because he was wandering around in traffic What? Know that Yeah, cuz it happened like an hour ago the Colts have signed wide receiver James, Washington pretty fun Whatever he's not gonna do anything for them. The Lions are cutting Denzel Mims Saying thing doesn't matter poor Ashton Doolin suffered a season-ending torn ACL poor Ashton Doolin Yeah, I think that's everything update on trailing Berks Sprained LCL and it's gonna miss a few weeks Jamison Williams has a hamstring injury Not gonna really affect him because he's already suspended Shit Jordan Addison's and concussion protocol. He'll be fine. Russell Gage is out for the year with a knee injury and That's really your news. There's not a ton of news just some injuries. Oh some starting quarterback news Anthony Richardson is officially the starting quarterback as we said in the last episode and Sam Howell is officially the starting quarterback week one for the Washington commanders good for him Great analysis right there, dude. That is so incredible analysis. Um, all right, Robbie You know what? You're gonna fill the voice here. You are going to tell us exactly What is happening in the football world right now that you're pretty excited about? First off I think we have to ask something very Important before we can even think about starting Today's podcast. Well, we already kind of have we just did the news. Well First off Ryan, how are you doing today? I'm doing fantastic. That is an interesting question Yeah, I just said I'm doing great how are you doing today? Okay now that we got that out of the way I forgot how Ridiculous I am excited for the first game of the season, which I feel like I've already vocalized this in past episodes But I might as well say it again the Lions versus the Kansas City Chiefs Did my two two of my favorite teams to the teams that I root for head-to-head I'm gonna go with the Lions, but the house will be divided and the house divided against itself Cannot stand there will be a throwdown On the first day it's gonna be crazy. Oh The family will get torn apart. Yeah over this game and it's gonna be really fun. So while Robbie is out Doing whatever he's doing. I'm just gonna be working and then I have a quiet fantasy draft that night of the start of the leak And that I'm probably gonna watch. Well, it's a bunch of pretty chill guys hanging out and eating wings and then After my fantasy drafts, I'm just gonna watch the rest of the game pretty chill while Robbie's house is going to war Maybe I'll stop by just to see the chaos. Hold on. What day is the First game the first game is September 7th, I believe fact-check me there though You get to work on that in fact while Robbie gets to work on that we will take a quick break here and then Yeah, and then we will get into our very famous hot takes I forgot how ridiculous these episodes get when Robbie's here So now we're gonna take a quick break and we'll be back. I have to press the button again, and we're back Yeah Of course the very hot hot scorching smoking Robbie actually went downstairs and got some water Bounce out these hot scorching smoking hot tastes All right, and I have one that was doing my punishment I have one that will last for the second part of this show cuz I'm gonna do it at the end and it's gonna be hilarious Yeah first hot take is Miles Sanders Running back for the Carolina Panthers will break out this year and be the running back six on the year Not seven eight nine ten any of those far-off numbers. His ADP is 22 right now I have it running back six on the year. You guys heard of my running back ranking show. I love Miles Sanders this year I'm a big fan. I think the Panthers are underrated with Bryce Young and I think Miles Sanders is underrated with this incredible new quarterback under center and Sanders will just contribute to that no more DJ more so he will get some targets Obviously Adam Thielen Jonathan Mingo. He's got Mingo could develop into something. He's a rookie sealants passes prime DJ shark never really been much in the NFL so other than like one year with the Jaguars, so we're at the point where Panthers are running out of weapons. So Sanders is gonna catch the ball a lot he's gonna be an efficient runner behind a underrated top five offensive line in the NFL and I'm very excited to see what Miles Sanders can do this year thoughts on this take Robbie You know All right, what are your actual take on this Yeah, I kind of agree but I agree more with this next one because It's just right. Okay, so y'all may know I Am a Lions fan through and through at this point So So I Truly but I truly believe it when I say it That this year I think the Lions will at least win a playoff game and are gonna do very well And make it to the playoffs That's not a hot take at this point. They're projected to make the playoffs. Well, it's Make it a little warm take. Well, it's not warm. It's a cold What if they make it to this? Why this isn't this isn't like I 100% thing is gonna happen But what if they meet the Super Bowl? What do you think that you can I go hot take right now? Why Super Bowl? Well, you gotta go. What do you think? What do you think it has like? No, they're not gonna make it There's no chance who's gonna be the main team to stop them Deniers the Eagles the Cowboys could the Seahawks the even the commanders I'm very highly in their division They'll win the division go to the playoffs, I don't know how far they'll go in the playoffs Packers are losing Aaron Rodgers. Yeah, I think it's easy to the Lions. You're gonna win Their division and make it to the playoffs Uncertain yet how far they'll make it I guess Once we see them in action during the season, it'll become more clear. But I guess it's not a super hot take but I 100% think it's gonna happen We're gonna get hotter and hotter as we go on our hottest take Robbie that was such a not hot. Okay, but um, I get the joke, but it does not work with that video. Um, So, oh, we had to take a sip of water. I feel like cold take All right, we're at the point where I go on some weird Ravens ramp we're at that point in the podcast So it's time for a Ravens bold prediction Our hot takes are gonna overlap this time. So I have a Ravens those take more Jackson those takes were our Medium like miles. Those were our miles. We'll go in like waves So here those are our mildly hot takes they're all hot but those are mild takes now we're into medium territory Okay, those medium wings. They got a little dip on them, but they're not that hot And I'm gonna go the Ravens Take down the Bengals to win their division and receive the number two seed in the NFL That's my medium take at this point and Here's what we already know Lamar Jackson's a difference maker. He's got his whole career without many good weapons Mark Andrews has been his guy through and through we kind of know that but other than that who's his main weapons been Hollywood Brown? Willie Sneed John Brown He's like guys that we need. Yeah, we'll see regularly, um And at this point those guys just we're not top-tier receivers for him. Now. He has a good cast He has the first round pick they flowers the first round pick from a few years ago Rashad Bateman And he has Odell Beckham jr In addition is still having Mark Andrews and a healthy JK Dobbins out of the backfield with a good offensive line This is a Ravens offense that could be the best in the NFL at this point the defense I am a little worried about they just signed a Navy on clowny which helps their edge depth issue at this point I'm just worried about corner because Marlon Humphrey had a foot injury He's probably gonna miss the first two weeks of the season is what they're estimating. So That will be a big issue. They signed Ronald Darby to a one-year deal to help with some corner depth corner They're struggling out a little bit. But other than corner, they are at a really good spot right now Very good at every position and I'm very excited for the Ravens this year. I think they finally taught the Bengals Women of AFC North and finished second in the AFC seating this year All right, Robbie you're up for your medium take my medium take Okay, the Jaguars That's one way to say the Jaguars The Jacksonville Jaguars will be top two in AFC South Because like think about it with Houston and Minneapolis and the rookie QBs trying to get them up to speed It doesn't leave too many others You said the AFC South a second ago. I assume you mean the AFC. Yeah, I have seen South. That's not really a hot take Yeah, is it? Yeah, um, yeah, sorry. I didn't mean AFC not AFC South. Thanks for catching that but I don't have too too much to say about this one But the Jags are just looking really good by the end of the 2022 season Not that I 100% thought this was going to happen, but I was hoping that they would like Make it super far into the playoffs. I wasn't sure about Super Bowl, but they were looking really good And I don't see too too too many Other teams that could really compete with them or give them a run for their money Yeah Yeah All right. It's definitely a hot take by the way. I'm sorry. I should have said this at the top I'm sorry, if you have any trouble hearing this episode or any audio quality issues Our mic it we're having mic issues currently. So I'm sorry in advance in previous whatever so Apologies about that, but we're trying to keep the podcast going even without our mic Yeah, this is me speaking into the mic as you can see it's not quiet So for whatever reason we have to speak into the computer, which is what I'm doing now. So mic problems Exists I guess so Yeah, and how we're gonna go on to our hot takes Obviously all of these are hot takes. It's just these are like the ones that are like actually hot, you know so my hot take And then after this we have two more categories left we have scorching and One I'm not even gonna talk about it right now. That's how hot it is So for my next hot take and this is actually like hot Are you ready for this Robbie? Kenny Pickett, baby. Are you ready for some Kenny Pickett hot takes? Kenny Pickett will throw for Four hundred thousand four hundred and ninety six passing yards 35 passing touchdowns only seven interceptions and that he will run for a hundred and thirty two rushing yards and two rushing touchdowns How about it? Kenny Pickett real hot hot take here. Okay, pick it Obviously he is great at Football, I think I saw it at college Level it has not translated into the NFL yet But like there are some throws in Ravens games that he made that were just just spectacular honestly, like that touchdown pass to Najee Harris on Sunday Night Football was just a work of art and It was it was a fantastic throw I love Kenny Pickett from the get-go He was a my guy for me in the draft process. I love him. So Yeah, Kenny Pickett will kind of go off this year is my hot take what is your hot take here? My hot take is that Lamar Jackson could very well be sorry. I forgot the mic isn't working. I gotta get closer Lamar Jackson Could very well be QB1 this season. I know that makes Ryan very happy I'm sorry. I get very excited when Lamar Jackson exists Lamar Jackson's always great Always record-setting always just top tier quarterback as Ryan has Said plenty of times across these episodes a lot of times which speaking of all these episodes which episode are we on this with this time? What episode I believe this is episode 17 Wow We've put out a lot of play-action podcast, I remember episode 1 I also remember I feel like every single episode since one He's mentioned his love for Lamar Jackson. I'm finally hopping on the Lamar Jackson hype train Yeah, like the moving from Greg Roman to Todd Monkin is Just about the single greatest move made this offseason for offense and Lamar coaching wise I can agree with that. Yeah, and Lamar Jackson will definitely Use it to his advantage in any way he can I don't see The only thing stopping his injuries, which is a threat for any football players. So as long as he stays healthy stay strong He could be number one Strong Yeah, I so I Mean, you know, I love it. You know, I love it a scorching takes now Scorching takes I mean, I have so many scorching takes not even about football, but I have to choose one just about football and my scorching take Says a new era for the NFL the Patriots the Saints the Packers and the Rams The Vikings all these teams that are perennial fly-off teams the Broncos the Colts these old-school great teams All missed the playoffs this year Meanwhile some new teams the commanders the Falcons the Bears the Jags The Lions these teams that never make the playoffs Will make the playoffs this year. Those five teams will make it and the teams I listed will not This is a new era for the NFL Aaron Rodgers is in New York He's at the end of his career Brady's gone Manning's gone breeze is gone Rivers is gone Roethlisberger's gone new and an age for the NFL and the NFL has changed around It's where the Jaguars are one of the best teams in football And at this point the Colts who were so good just not that long ago, but Peyton Manning are one of the worst so That's the point. We're at now. That is my hot tape or scorching take for the NFL 2023 season that is kind of actually similar to something that I was going to say in one of these categories, but I will adapt and My that is very true. Also, I feel like everything you're saying It's a good way of putting I feel like new age for the NFL Definitely should have a shirt that says hashtag new age for the NFL this season Okay Hot take scorching take some some would say Jared Goff Lions quarterback if you don't know he is I know some people don't know who that is I just I mean Call it biased because I'm a line Sam, but he could be like top 10 QB's maybe top 5 maybe Depends on how well the Lions do as a whole this season But as we've stated as I've stated the Lions are going to do pretty well this year very well possibly but they're not going to do bad and Jared Goff could easily be a Very high-ranking top-tier quarterback for the 2023 NFL season do you I've already projected that so yeah Lamar Jackson is one and he's like Five will say five that is scorching right there five. Well Could be I mean you never know for fantasy purposes that scorching age of the NFL Jared Goff, I'm not sure. He's part of that new age, but uh Poor guy. What's that the wait and see now? We're on to our final category It is the ghost pepper Category and as Robbie just chugs as much water as he has left. He has drank that whole glass throughout this episode He's sweating without even eating eating any wings. He's just thinking about how hot these things are It's making him sweat a little bit, but My scorching take and you guys out there listening are Not gonna like this take you're not gonna agree with this only guys only guys girls girls as well Anyone out there? Listening to this you're not gonna like this take I think like two people out there will like this take including my brother Who's a big fan of this team? As I've stated before some of you probably already know what I'm about to talk about but The Washington commanders Will win 11 games Will win the NFC East And and there's more yeah We'll have the number two seed in the NFC The Washington commander the Washington commander led you to this conclusion Specifically what led me to this conclusion is they're receiving core. They're running game. They're offensive line their defense is all great They could be a great team win 11 games um If they if Sam Howell's good, and I'm a big believer in Sam Howell huge believer in Sam Howell So I think Sam Howell will be great and Just coming out of college. I love Sam Howell. I thought he was the second best in his class behind Kenny Pickett So I thought those two quarterbacks are great, and I thought the rest of the quarterbacks Willis Corral Ritter I didn't love him that much. I thought Ritter was okay. I thought Willis and Corral we're not that great so um those two guys Coming out of this class Or that class where the guys I was in on and two of my hot takes are about those guys So Howell I think will be great So he could get a few MVP votes he could be in the conversation I don't know I this is my ghost pepper take that everyone's gonna turn off the podcast and think of a troll Just for saying this But I truly believe this with conviction 11 games at the NFC East crowd and a number two seed in the NFC for the commanders and Just a quick follow-up some of you might think it's a hot take just to say that the NFC East winner will win 11 games My projections right now, and I'm gonna do a final record projection soon Have the Eagles also at 11 games with the commanders winning with a tiebreaker The Cowboys sitting at 10 games and the Giants not at 8 games That is I need to do a final record projections where I go through game-by-game, but that is my current projection for these teams so with that being said the commanders I'm excited. I'm very excited all right. I'm excited too for you I can't say I'm excited, but I'm excited for you, so that's something So my scorching take Part of me feels like I went too big too soon with that last one that wasn't even a scorching take that was just a Spicy hot take but that was a scorching take this is the good stuff, or that was a score This is ghost pepper take my apologies. Yeah, it was pepper take big difference The Broncos another one of my favorite because I'm from Denver You look five favorite teams what I do I would real quick number one Lions number two Tigers number three Broncos and Chiefs they hate each other Speaking of Broncos and Chiefs hating each other I feel like the Broncos Could do very well in the AFC West that is my ghost pepper take How well are we talking here how well Winning is a long shot but They could be second they could When I don't I don't really think I see them winning you gotta go all in here Gotta go all in this is ghost pepper. You gotta go all in my hot my official hot take is the Broncos could win AFC West Well they could but sure well there you go Broncos will win AFC West is the hot take Scorching take ghost pepper take of Robbie Savage. It's just scorching just I'm out of water First thing Sean Payton great coach Coming from the Saints he's done some remarkable things in his career. He could really help out the Broncos Um hate me for this I just think it's I Don't I don't care the Broncos will as Ryan wants me to put it win AFC West And I would love to see it happen I However would not love to see them beat the Lions in the Super Bowl Which is totally going to be a possibility because the Super Bowl is going to be the Lions and the Broncos What? There's no world where that happens, but the Lions could make it Well, they couldn't I mean they could maybe I'm praying that they do it'd be really that that take was hot I will say it was very scorching All right, I think that wraps it up for our hot takes I mean Robbie's out of water So I guess we have to end this podcast because Robbie's no more water can't take the heat anymore It is also fun fact, so I forgot about the mic again I'm gonna get closer fun fact it is very very very very hot outside Like you would not believe Just it's ridiculous like today 89 degrees Feels like 101. It's cooling down. That's nice I went on an hour and a half bike ride feels like 101.
