The speaker discusses the worst diabetes medications that have been prescribed. They mention that not all medications are equally safe and effective. The first medication mentioned is sulfonylureas, which can damage the pancreas and make patients insulin-dependent. The second medication is pioglitazone, which can cause weight gain and water retention. The last medication discussed is metformin, which is commonly prescribed but has side effects such as diarrhea and vitamin B12 deficiency. The speaker recommends considering natural alternatives like berberine or doing research before starting metformin. They also mention their website, sugarmds.com, which offers resources and information about diabetes and medications. They have books available for free and supplements that can help reduce the need for medications. The speaker encourages viewers to educate themselves and join their social app, SugarMD, for support and community. testing testing testing were the worst diabetes medications ever prescribed listen hey everybody diabetes is a life-altering condition you all know that requires proper treatment you cannot just anything that's thrown at you however not all medications prescribed for diabetes are created equally effective or safe in fact some can cause more harm than good today I am going to share with you the worst diabetes medications ever prescribed while I won't go as far as to say they will kill you probably won't but I can assure you that they aren't going to do for your body any favors whether you are already on medication or just started taking them it is important to be aware of the potential risks and side effects let's dive into the dark side of diabetes medications and find out what to avoid number one in my list salfonylureas a name that is all too familiar in the world of diabetes treatment these medications are often prescribed to individuals who cannot afford any other medication or supplements or are in desperate need of some medication to save their life however the reality is that the salfonylureas may actually be the worst medication for someone with diabetes it's like you're so hungry that you're eating from trash not to die well you won't die but you're eating trash so you know I'm saying taking glipizide can put your pancreas at risk and cause it to deteriorate within the next five to ten years now some individuals may get lucky some people will say oh I've been taking these for 20 years 30 years and I'm good well good for you but studies show otherwise for majority of people it's a very well documented where patients become insulin dependent shortly after taking salfonylureas in fact scientific studies have shown that these medications can severely damage pancreatic beta cells the cells that make insulin it is time to start rethinking the way we approach diabetes treatment and tell your doctor hello I don't like this medication period give me something else the next worst medication is pioglitazone now pioglitazone may be touted as a cheap and effective medication but it comes with its own set of drawbacks patients who take pioglitazone may experience weight gain so if you're gaining weight although your blood sugars are coming down on the medication now you know why it can cause swelling because it causes water retention it can be very unpleasant and very difficult to manage now despite these side effects some doctors may still prescribe pioglitazone to their patients if they have fatty liver disease or excessive insulin resistance and they are not super overweight because there are some people who are not overweight and they still have fatty liver they still have insulin resistance because that they carry that fat around their organs so not necessarily outside under their skin but they carry around organs that we call them skinny fats and those people will benefit from for example pioglitazone or some people like I said who cannot afford any other medication or any other supplements then we say oh well better than nothing right however it is essential to remember that the pioglitazone is definitely not a miracle drug not even close and doctors must weigh the benefits and risks before prescribing this medication to their patients like I said pioglitazone may be inexpensive and very easy to get it's not always the best choice for everyone the last medication that I hate is metformin now I use metformin yes a lot of people use metformin a lot of doctors use metformin it's actually the most commonly prescribed medication for diabetes in the world now it comes with it is fair share of short-term and long-term side effects now why are we using metformin so often well because it is cheap and it doesn't work it does work doesn't have a lot of side effects yes it does but you know what people say you know what it's cheap I'll just take it well a lot of people think that way unfortunately right when it comes to our health we're like cheap you know you go to a restaurant you spend $100 $200 you go want to buy a medication or a supplement oh that's too expensive hello you just spend $200 on a restaurant for a meal that was not even healthy so think about it we spend a lot of money on a lot of things that doesn't make any sense when it comes to our health I get the metformin free okay well is it good for you questionable now this is generally a safe drug for most people but a lot of you get chronic diarrhea some of you get headaches some of you get flushing chest pain vitamin b12 deficiency most of you don't even know that these are side effects of the medication it's important to refer to your also look at your dose and maybe adjust your dose if you're having side effects but also do your own research about these potential side effects before start taking metformin there's a lot of natural alternatives out there like berberine dehydra berberine salon cinnamon and so forth they're all available everywhere we have it on our website at sugar mds.com as well however you know you're a metformin now a lot of people by the way there are a lot of studies showing that you can take these supplements along with the metformin right your individual situation may be different however studies indicate that taking berberine or dehydra berberine with metformin is okay now there are plenty of resources available out there to help you navigate your concerns and questions like I said our website has plenty of information and on YouTube here we have a lot of videos about metformin all you have to do type sugar MD and find out or type whatever you're looking for you're gonna find a video I promise I think we surpassed a thousand videos already so if you are one of the many individuals who are tired of taking these medications we have a lot of books remember I also have a new book by the way it is called diabetic diet book everybody was asking hey doctor just tell me what to eat and whatnot so finally I have written a special book for you guys for just to tell you what to eat and it's a lot shorter and a smaller book than the ultimate diabetes book remember ultimate diabetes book is like an encyclopedia for diabetes you have a question you open up you find the answer it's your Bible for diabetes now when it comes to the diabetic diet reference then we have a new book and that's called the doctor's guide to diabetic diet and these are all available for free on our website sometimes you know I put so much effort into this and I spend my weekends and nights writing books and you know we sell them for $20 or so and I offer to my patients who are seeing me on on YouTube for free and next thing you know people don't get it we sell more for $20 then when we go for free I guess when you go for free it's not valuable or something it's $20 value so get it come to the website sign up get the book in your email you can download it for hardcover easy nice super nice books we in the United States actually I make it in Turkey in the United States printing those books cost us more than $15 so we don't print here we end up sending overseas bringing back shipping it back because there's no way we can print a book here with that quality that we are offering so they're hardcover color books that you will enjoy make sure it's on your shelf offer to your friends etc so please educate yourself watching is great but reading is
