Multiple fluid levels in an x-ray can indicate bowel obstruction. There are two types of bowel obstruction: small bowel obstruction and large bowel obstruction. Small bowel obstruction can be caused by adhesions, hernia, gallstones, ileus, and neoplasms. Large bowel obstruction can be caused by volvulus and diverticulitis.
