Winston believes that studying the relationship between society and technology allows us to analyze and understand media technologies. This helps us realize that we have some control over the forces that shape our media landscape. Therefore, the main issue lies in how we choose to manage the media. Winston also said that by drawing attention to the ways in which society constantly conditions technological developments, this field gives us the power to evaluate media technologies and to understand that we are not in a group of forces totally beyond our control, which leads to the thought that the root of this problem is the way we choose to manage the media.
