Rosalie Lantin shares 5 steps for introducing food to children. First, don't mix foods they don't like with new ones. Second, offer a variety of colorful foods on their plate. Third, don't force them to eat. Fourth, be patient and tolerant. Fifth, lead by example and try the food with them. She also mentions an upcoming episode on DME, a method to transition from breastfeeding to solid food. Hi, my name is Rosalie Lantin. I'm studying the Child Care Education at Henri Laurenteau. The name of this podcast is 5 Steps and I will give you 5 steps to introduce food to your child. So the first step is to not give food you will not like at all. For example, if your child doesn't like apple and you inside their puree and you mix it with some banana and he never tried bananas before, it will be a total mess. So I will give you some advice. This is how to try apple inside their puree. Now you can introduce bananas and see if he will like it or not. It will be easier for you and your child. So the second step is put some colors inside their plate. For example, inside his plate, give him some broccoli for green color, some carrots for orange, mashed potatoes for white, some meat, for example, steak for brown, some strawberry for red, and blueberries for blue. So it's going to be a lot of colors in their plate and we know that child eat with their eyes and love to see different colors inside their plate. The third step is to not force him to eat. For example, if I was a mom and I had a child and he doesn't like tomatoes, but I will not force him to eat since he didn't like it, or I will just give him one in their plate so he can try. But I will never tell my child, you have to eat your tomatoes or you're not going to have dessert after your dinner. So do not say that to your child. He will cry, he will be forced to eat even if he's not hungry. So the fourth step is be patient and tolerant with your child. Why? Because it's not an easy step for you and your child to eat a new food and to try a new food. And five is try with him. For example, I don't like olives, but if I want my child to eat olives, I will feed him. So he will have an example on how I will be if I eat a food I don't like. So that's my first step, I want to tell you tonight. And we will see each other next week for the DME episode with three of my friends. And the DME is a way, it's a way you skip the step between the breastfeeding and the solid food. So the step you skip is the period. So bye, see you next week.
