Aušra and Varpas clearly declared to everyone that Lithuanians are the same people as others and the Lithuanian nation should not be oppressed and destroyed, but must have conditions to develop normally and overcome backwardness. Aušra ir Varpas aiškiai ryštingai paskelbė visiems, kad Lietuviai yra tokie pat žmonės kaip ir kiti ir Lietuvių tauta neturi būti engiama ir naikinama, o privalo turėti sąlygas normaliai plėtotis ir išbrėsti iš atsilikimo.
