Welcome to today's podcast. We will talk about the topic, why it's important to evaluate the diversity of religion of students in the classroom. That's a topic that will make us to think and reflect that we are not all equal in the classroom. My name is Paola Andalon and it's a pleasure to be here with you tonight in Reflection and School Teaching Show. So let's start. First of all, why it's important to evaluate the diversity of religion in the students within the classroom? Let's do that question for ourselves for a moment, don't we? Then let's talk about the diversity of religion that exists in the classroom and why it's important for us as a teacher to teach value to students for a better environment of relationship between peers and teachers when there is diversity. First, we have to explain the definition of diversity. What do we know about it? Well, I understand like there are different or variety of something, right? Am I right? Such a culture, gender formation, a few. But I like to have a more real knowledge and I have a better definition. So I made my investigation in a dictionary, of course, and I found something similar. It says lots of several different things. And according to a webpage that I found, brainly.in.com, mentioned with quotation, diversity literally means difference. Diversity recognize that thought people have things in a common with each other. They are also different and unique in many ways. Diversity is about recognizing and valuing those difference. That sounds similar to me, don't you think? So that's diversity. Now, how can we apply in the classroom? Well, that depends on us, on each teacher, on the values that we want to teach and those students acquire it, those values to use them in daily lives and with the people around them. If there are different types of religion and within a community, there can be up like more than five or six, maybe, then we must know how to respect each other. Working except that there is a variety as well as gender, there is also a variety of culture, religion, and as a teacher, we know how to adapt the activities for everyone and they can reach the success that we desire and looking for. A clear example that comes to my mind is when within my classroom, we have a diversity of religion and sometimes we don't think that there is a great variety of religion in our community and we think like there is only one, of course, holy mind, it happened to me. So which is the Catholic, I think, is the only one and I believe so, I do my template on my plans, on my activities, thinking about the Catholic religion and when we are doing activity in the class, we present them in classroom and we plan the activity according to my culture, my tradition, and without thinking about it, whether the religion of the others, it's a lot to carry our center activities about it or they are not going to do it or the family circle is not going to accept it. So for example, in Mexico, the day of the day is well known as a big party and we celebrate it in November 2nd and the activity to do was make an infographic about the most important thing that day and some students tell me, teacher, I'm a Christian, so it does not allow to me to do that type of research and that is when you think, oh, no, what I was thinking, my bad, so sorry, and I apologize for not thinking to respect those theories and we have to do an activity suitable for them. You know, well, there is another one that I remember, again, another situation like Britney Spears says, oops, I did it again, I remember when it was Christmas, we started the celebration and the activity was to learn a thing, Christmas carol, decorate a tree and in Mexico say, ask for posadas, but some students approach me and say, teacher, we are Jewish, we celebrate Hanukkah, so in different way we celebrate Christmas that you are celebrating and I'm like, so sorry, and I have to think about again the activity for them, okay? So in conclusion, that is when we must learn to value and respect the diversity that exists within the classroom even when we talk about religion is very important and as a teacher looking for ways and alternatives to work the activities in a way that we respect those values of equity and we put to practice to work and have a good harmony in the classroom. So take my recommendation, don't do that and thinking about the difference or the diversity in religion. Well, that will be everything for today. I want to thank all the people who take a little bit of their time to listen to me.
