The British Royal Family has many interesting facts. Monarchs have two birthdays, the Royal Family can't sign autographs, Queen Elizabeth is the longest reigning monarch, King Charles has someone squeeze his toothpaste, Princess Diana's wedding dress had over 10,000 pearls, the King doesn't need a passport to travel, royals must stay out of politics, the Queen invented a new dog breed called the dogus, and a man married to the Queen doesn't become king. Queen Elizabeth wore bright colors so people could easily see her. Hello, good morning from Natalie to all my listeners. Today I'd like to talk to you and share some interesting quirky facts about the Royal Family. For centuries the British Royal Family has been a source of fascination and admiration everywhere on the planet, from glamorous weddings, stately homes, charitable work and also commitment to public service. There are so many interesting facts about the Royals that it can be hard to keep track of all of them. So today I'd like to look at just some interesting things that really caught my attention. The first one is that Kings and Queens have two birthdays, yes believe it or not, not just like any other person who has one, and this is because the monarch's birthday is marked by a parade known as the Trooping of the Colour and Edward VII who reigned from 1901 to 1910 decided it wouldn't be very fun to celebrate this in November when his birthday was because it was cold so he moved his own birthday to June. So since then this has become a sort of common thing to do between monarchs. The second thing is that the Royal Family isn't allowed to sign autographs. Royals such as King Charles are not supposed to sign autographs. This is in case somebody tries to forge their signature. The next interesting thing is that Queen Elizabeth was the longest reigning British monarch of all time. Queen Elizabeth reigned since 1952 making her the longest reigning monarch in British history. Queen Victoria is in second place having reigned for 63 years. The next quirky fact is that King Charles doesn't squeeze his own toothpaste. According to reports from people who work in the palace, King Charles has his workers squeezing one inch of toothpaste onto his toothbrush every morning. I personally don't think I would like that because I do like to decide how much I put on my toothbrush but what an interesting job to do and I wonder if they have to talk about the job they do what would be the official job title? Let me know what you think in the comments. The next interesting fact is that Princess Diana's wedding dress contained over 10,000 pearls. When Diana got married to Prince Charles at St Paul's Cathedral in 1981 she wore a wedding dress with over 10,000 pearls and the dress was over 7.5 meter long. So that is definitely a dream wedding dress. The King doesn't need a passport to travel abroad. This is really interesting. The King is one of the only people in the world that requires no passport for international travel. When the King travels he must give his full name, age, dress, nationality, gender and place of birth to officials at the border. How convenient. I wish it was the same for all of us because renewing passports has increased and it's a lot of money isn't it? The next interesting fact is that the royal family must stay out of politics. Members of the royal family are not allowed to say they support a particular political party. Well that is interesting given that lately one of the members of the royal family has actually been quite outspoken hasn't he? Hmm guess who? The next one is the Queen invented a breed of dog. The Queen's favourite dogs were corgis and when one of her corgis had a baby with another breed she created a new species of dog called the dogus. Guess what is the other breed's name? I think you've got a good idea already. And next is a man married to the Queen doesn't easily become king. If a woman marries a king they become a queen. For example if Prince William becomes king then his wife Kate will become a queen. However it doesn't work the other way around. Queen Elizabeth's husband Prince Philip was never able to become a king. Hmm I guess that's not really fair. What do you make of this? And then next interesting quirky fact that I wanted to share with you today is that Queen Elizabeth used to wear bright colours so crowds could see her. Did you ever notice the Queen wearing bright colours? This is so people would never miss her. Well do you think there are other reasons maybe security reasons why the Queen always wore bright colours? Well that's all for me today I hope you enjoyed it and see you very soon. Bye for now.
