Narnia Dawn here, and you're listening to Connected, the biweekly newsletter for guidance on growing your business in coherence. This is issue number five, and it's called All Possibility. I started using EFT tapping back in 2006. EFT stands for Emotional Freedom Technique, and it's also sometimes just called tapping, as that is a major part of the process. EFT combines cognitive therapy and exposure therapy with the somatic therapy of tapping on acupressure points on your body. Tapping was instrumental in helping me feel less dissociated and more embodied. It can be a powerful tool as we traverse the highs and lows of building a business, so I will incorporate it more in later newsletter issues. One day, several years ago, I was feeling anxiety in my body, tightness in my chest, and a feeling of wanting to run and hide and be anywhere than the present moment. I used to just dissociate from those body sensations, living completely in my head or beyond. Ignoring that for too long would often propel me into a full-blown panic attack that I could no longer ignore. This particular day, I noticed the anxiety in my body and slowed everything down to be present with it. This is where the repetitive tapping motion going through the points keeps me in my body if I start to float away. As I slowed down tapping, I brought attention to my thoughts. I don't know what's going to happen. I had an event coming up that involved another person coming to visit and stay at my house. That was the thought that was repeating over and over, just under the surface, that was causing my body to freak out, and it was coming from a place of negative expectation. I don't know what's going to happen sounded like any number of horrible and probably even many horrible stressful things could happen that would be completely out of my control and wreak havoc on my life in a destructive way. I just stuck with the tapping as I repeated the phrase, giving voice to the negative thoughts that followed and the reactive sensations in my body. But slowly, because I was sticking with it while simultaneously calming my body down and being present, the meaning of the phrase started changing. I don't know what's going to happen emerged as a positive thing, a possible opening for something good to happen. Maybe multiple amazing magical things can happen. It could end up being better than I even expected. If you already have tapping in your practice, I encourage you to play around with this exercise the same way I did. For now, let's approach it with heart coherence. Bring your attention to your body. Feel into your feet and the area surrounding your feet. Feel into your hands and the area surrounding your hands. Feel into your chest. Feel into the area radiating out on the left and right sides of your chest. Feel into the area radiating out behind your chest and radiating out in front of your chest. And now bring your attention to your heart. You may find it helpful to place a hand over your heart. If you're in a place where you feel comfortable to do so, say out loud, I don't know what's going to happen. You may want to focus on a specific event that comes to mind or keep it general. Just notice your response to the phrase. Do you have an immediate doom and gloom negative response? Are you noticing some stress reactions? It's okay. Keeping your attention on your heart, start to slow your breathing down a bit. This signals your body that right now in this present moment, you are okay. And start to generate a feeling of appreciation. Let's thank our brains for doing their best to keep us safe. Let's thank our bodies for doing their best to keep us safe. You can visualize if you want radiating out loving kindness and appreciation to your brain and body. Start to generate a feeling of possibility and repeat again, I don't know what's going to happen. Notice if the train of thought continues to grow in positive expectation with anything could happen. It could be even better than I expected. Again, go with details or keep it general. Just allow your brain, body and heart to bask in this now moment of all possibility. Anchored in science. Uncertainty is where new possibility lies. That is a quote by Mel Schwartz in his book, The Possibility Principle. Reality is not out there somewhere separate from us. I am not going to delve deep into quantum mechanics here, but shifting to a quantum worldview can help us see that we are living in a universe that exists in a pure state of flow and potential rather than a fixed state of being. We are not just powerless cogs in a machine, but creators in a living matrix of information. Reality is constantly remaking itself and we are a vital part of that process. In the early part of the 20th century, the physicist Werner Heisenberg discovered that uncertainty is the fabric of the quantum world. And over the last few decades, scientists have demonstrated that these uncertainty principles can be seen occurring in the macro world as well. The theoretical physicist John Archibald Wheeler demonstrated that we are in what he called a participatory universe. Consciousness itself is required to participate and our unfolding reality needs an observer. You can flow down the quantum information rabbit hole and learn more about the uncertainty principle and the observer effect here. In the market, as you are growing your business impact and income, I believe it is imperative that you stay aware of what Gay Hendricks calls the ULP, the upper limit problem. You may have heard this best described as a thermostat. You have a set temperature of success and joy that you feel comfortable at, the known. When you start to exceed your upper limit temperature setting, you manufacture thoughts that make you feel bad or you do something that stops your forward momentum. This can even cross over into other areas of your life, like starting a fight with a family member or making a mistake in your personal finances. This helps bring you back down within your familiar, comfortable range of success and feeling good. As frustrating as this is, your limiting beliefs and actions are well-intentioned. Human beings have millions of nerve connections devoted to registering pain and feeling fear. We're used to adversity and struggle, and we are only recently evolving the ability to let ourselves feel good and have things go well for longer periods of time. Our bodies can learn that it's not a safety hazard to feel naturally joyful and have our lives and businesses succeed all of the time. The first step here is to make a list of your upper limit behaviors. According to Gay Hendricks in his book, The Big Leap, the most common are worrying, blame and criticism of yourself and others, getting sick or hurt, squabbling, hiding significant feelings, not keeping agreements, which moves you out of integrity with yourself, not speaking significant truths, not being able to express yourself, not being able to express yourself, not being able to express
