The podcast discusses the recent NFL games, specifically focusing on the Philadelphia Eagles vs. New York Giants and Dallas Cowboys vs. San Francisco 49ers matchups. The Eagles dominated the Giants, with Jalen Hurts playing well and the ground attack being effective. The Cowboys, known for their playoff disappointments, lost to the 49ers in classic fashion, and the podcast suggests that the team should consider moving on from Dak Prescott. The podcast also criticizes the Cowboys' fan base and their perception as "America's team." Welcome back everyone to the honest truth sports podcast. Are you tired of fake hot takes? This is a podcast where we only speak the truth, no BS. Only real takes and opinions on the hottest news in sports. Where we put the realism into journalism. Welcome back everyone to episode 2 where this week we are going to get into the topic of what happened in last week with the NFL and over the weekend and the divisional round matchups. Now I will say I intended to have this episode out before all of it happened however I was on a vacation so therefore it kind of had to be delayed and I couldn't really do my part in making my episode before the weekend had started so now we're going to end up doing a weekend recap along with a little bit more on the slate. We will have a little golf talk for the first time. We got a little bit golf talk going on and then also a little bit of some news in the NBA world with some Shannon Sharp and his hypocrisy at the Lakers game. Maybe I'll talk into a little bit of like some trade talk going on a little bit here and there because I know the trade deadlines coming up and the Lakers did make a move for one of the stars in the Wizards roster but we might get to that we might not. However we are going to get into the segment of the divisional round recap. First on the list for this divisional round recap we are going to talk about the Eagles game. Now I'm not going to go chronologically here because I think it's just best that I don't. I like to go and take things from my perspective throughout the games and I think the best spot is to just start off with the Eagles. The Eagles they looked really really dominant this weekend. I mean I don't really think a lot of people had high hopes for what the Giants were going to do in this matchup but the Eagles I mean they just they looked like the number one seed. Like they took it to the Giants and played silly football. They made sure they played every single minute of that game and fought tooth and nail until the final horn and give credit to the Giants for at least you know winning a playoff game last weekend against the Vikings against a very fraudulent team. You know I think a lot of people knew that the Giants were going to make it to the second round divisional round matchup because like I said the Vikings were just not a team that we're going to go anywhere past the first round. But like the Eagles they just couldn't do anything or I mean sorry the Giants they couldn't do anything all game. They only scored one touchdown and that was off of a I really don't even know because like I I was on vacation so I didn't really watch this game. This was probably the one game that I didn't watch while I was standing in line for things. The other games I watched but just getting like my overall recap of it like Jalen Hurts looked pretty healthy for the most part. He's probably playing at 95%. He's not fully healthy but you know towards the end of the season is anybody really ever fully healthy. You have to play banged up. You have to go out there and compete for your guys, compete for your team, put your team on your back. Like that's just what you got to do in playoff football and the Eagles they got it done. They put a astounding 38 on the Giants team which I thought their defense was a fairly good defense but you know when you're down 28-0 at half it kind of just puts a puts a nail in the cloth in there and you just really don't want to fight back after that and like all I have to like the rest I have to say about it is that Jalen like he played a really good game. Boston Scott played really good because you know Boston Scott he's just a he's just trolling the Giants right now. I heard a stat that there's like a out of the 50 some games that Boston Scott has played he has 18 touchdowns in those 50 some games and 11 of those touchdowns are against the Giants. So I think I heard this off of part of my take earlier and I found it funny because they they think that at this point Nick Sirianni is just trolling the Giants and saying oh hey Boston we know we're pretty close to the end zone why don't you just go in there and score just go on just go on in come on like we'll we'll hand you the ball don't worry all you gotta do is score and that's basically what they did so he got a touchdown against them you know a couple throwing touchdowns from Jalen he looked pretty well like I don't I don't know what else to say I mean like it's not like his numbers were off the charts I mean he was 16 for 24 for 154 yards with two touchdowns but like him carrying the ball was it what do we have I'm sorry for the sniffles and I'm still kind of I don't know sickness but whatever Jalen Hurts nine carries for 34 yards so like it wasn't bad but Kenneth Gainwell he he had a pretty solid game for him along with Miles Sanders both on both surpassing not surpassing but Kenneth surpassed 100 yards miles of that 90 they if you combine them they surpassed 200 yards total so the rushing the ground attack was there for the Eagles which if you're going to go into a deep playoff run you kind of have to have a ground attack running game so that can end up that that will eventually make the passing game grow and be open more often you know you can play action bootlegs and all that sorts of stuff it will just get things flowing and you should be doing well with that but like I don't really know if there's anything else to say about this game the Eagles really just took it to them and played a hard game like I was probably the least exciting game to watch other than like all of the Philly fans heckling the Giants fans as they were coming into the stadium and Eli Manning loving his return back to the link as they call it there in Philly they they welcomed him with open arms I just I should say and those open arms being the double bird at the end of those arms so that was pretty hilarious to see Giants you gave it a good run I appreciate you as a Bears fan for being the fraudulent Vikings because they are garbage very very very bad thank you very much for doing that all right and now next I would like to talk about the other NFC divisional round matchup and the Cowboys losing in classic fashion like how can you not have seen this coming the Cowboys are probably the second most fraudulent team in the NFL like the Cowboys you guys get your hopes up every single year to play in the playoffs and just hope you can win a game like that that is your Super Bowl it's just winning one game in the playoffs and you did that you did that so you guys came out this next week and Dak was the Dak that I knew he was throwing two interceptions in the game only he was 23 for 37 206 yards one TD two interceptions like I think it was maybe their first drive of the game they looked alright and then you know the classic Cowboy way you know they couldn't find a kicker to make a field goal attempt or a PAT attempt and even though that block was not even going to come close to the uprights even though it was blocked it was going to miss way left I I couldn't help but laugh watching that because when I I actually had Brett Maher on my fantasy team the entire year and like he was a good kicker but like after seeing him miss four field goal attempts last week and you still went out there and were like yeah you know let's go ahead kick it and it got blocked immediately on the first attempt I found it kind of hilarious that that had happened and the fact that like McCarthy just kept like he he really didn't have a choice on whether or not to go for two or kick a field goal like if I were him going for two every single time now like in if he were to win this game and go on to the next round the Cowboys and McCarthy would have to go for two every single time because I would not trust Brett Maher in any situation currently as he has developed himself a case of the yips which is classic like anybody can get it but it's tough to see that I'm sure they'll get it figured out in the offseason but like the Cowboys man you had everything going into this game you could have done so much better for yourselves like Dak if you would have played an ounce of how you played against the Bucs last week you guys would have probably single-handedly nothing okay you guys would have beat the Niners by a good margin but like you guys choked it you guys choked it away and I find it hilarious that all these Cowboy fans are now crying and complaining on social media saying our franchise is a joke yeah dude I knew that I knew your franchise was a joke like Dak had his good year his good early years but he has not had his his moment in the NFL he has not had his staple moment like and it's clear to see that like he can't get you guys deep in the playoffs he barely gets you one win in the playoffs and I think honestly if the Cowboys were to try and look to move on to something else they might want to try for something in this upcoming draft hello Chicago is willing to trade but you know don't give us Dak we don't want Dak the Bears would take you know they would take a lot of you know overall draft picks and maybe some extra players you know if you want to throw in some other people in there but you know it's whatever it's okay but Cowboys take this offseason to reevaluate yourselves and understand that there might be a different future ahead that does not have Dak at the helm and the Cowboys fans suck it up you guys you I don't know how you continue to root for a fan base that is the America's team like you guys are not America's team you say that but in reality you're only that because you have the richest owner in the NFL and he thinks he can persuade anybody and everybody with his political views and just the money he throws around and it's kind of sickening to see because there's better teams in the NFL that could be getting these primetime games and the Cowboys once again I think have the most primetime games in the NFL this past year I don't know what the number is but I know for a fact they it seemed like they were on the primetime channel almost every other week and I I would rather not see that next year but we don't know where that's going to go enough about the Cowboys as for the 49ers you guys did your job you survived in advance to next week against the Eagles that's gonna be a tough test Brock Purdy he had his struggles clearly in this game I mean it's tough because like he is he's a rookie quarterback like he's only had seven games in the NFL like this dude is doing everything he can to step up for his team and he's doing it well for the most part like today was his worst struggle I think in the past seven so games that he's played and obviously they're gonna have to figure out for next week because the Eagles are the best team in the NFC as of right now or throughout the season and as of right now like the Eagles are gonna be a tough team to beat but like the 49ers I think they can do it because they got guys on that team they have a bunch of dudes on that team let alone like like Greg Kittle he was making plays left and right for them that bobble catch and whatever quarter it was but like that really rallied them around Brock Purdy and he just started making plays for him along with Greg like he just I think they're gonna be a great tandem along with you know Debo he's he's out there making plays Elijah Mitchell had some good carries in this game Chris McCaffrey he was very involved in the game as well but like you know those are what five guys I named off like it's hard to beat the Niners because they just have so many guys they have dudes on this lineup in this roster and that's that's the only the offensive side of the ball like the defensive side they have dudes as well and I think next week is gonna be a hard-fought battle blood will be shed I think it could possibly be a new rivalry in the future because the 49ers and Eagles I could see these two teams being great teams in longevity and like I see them having rematches in the future and like I don't think either team could say that they have the better team over the other because they're just so well matched but it's gonna be interesting game to watch on what is it I think there's a Saturday slate I don't remember I don't know they're both on Sunday I'm stupid but they're the earlier game for some reason I thought that one game was on Saturday and one game was on Sunday but that would be stupid of me to think that I don't know why moving on to the next game and I have to question myself because I like Josh Allen I think he's a great quarterback but my question is are the Bills done are they a team that can win a playoff game past the NFC championship like they've got they've gotten there but you know Mahomes beat them and what 2019-2019 I think it was and they haven't been back since they keep winning these regular seasons games because they overmatch their opponents and they don't have to face the same opponents in the playoffs all the time they control their division for the most part like that division they play in is not very it's not very good it's not stacked I mean they had a couple fluke losses but like honestly at this point were those even fluke losses or were those losses that actually shows showed the true Buffalo Bills the Bills they struggled Josh Allen cannot move the ball it was a game that I I wish I had not watched because it was sad to watch I I think that this future the Bills are going in is gonna be a rough road considering that Stefan Diggs he had himself a very short postgame I don't know what to call it but he packed his bags and left the locker room and field and I feel but he left the locker room before everybody else was even off the field he had to have one of his teammates bring him back to the locker room and then not soon after he still left after he went back in and it's just kind of shocking to see that chemistry that was once there just it looks like it's kind of fading away because Stefan wants a ring and Josh Allen needs to just be better he has to do better it seems like he was forcing a lot of things and honestly I think the way that Ken Dorsey the offensive coordinator runs his offense it it forces the ball into Allen's hands most of the time like he has to play with the ball they don't have a running game even if you say they had a running game if you look at the stats the stats throughout the season the running game was Josh Allen they didn't have a running game it was literally give the ball to Josh Allen and see what he could do with it and the Bills they just they have a lot of issues that they're gonna have to work out in the offseason and trying to figure out that like if they can find a running game they will be fine Josh Allen's a capable quarterback of winning a Super Bowl I think like I believe he can win a Super Bowl but you as I said before you have to have a running game in the playoffs I said that with the Eagles they have it I could see them winning the Super Bowl this year they have what it takes the Bills unfortunately do not as for the other side of the field the Bengals the Bengals let's talk about the Bengals is Joe Burrow him yes yes he is Joe Burrow is him he is I I don't know what it is about him like the way he carries himself just the swagger and moxie he has it stemmed from his LSU days like this guy is definitely he's the new character that everybody else wants to be all these young kids are looking up to Joe Burrow and they want to be him and I think it's probably a good thing because the way football is coming nowadays like you need guys that are gonna be willing to stand in that pocket especially for young quarterbacks like he's showing this moxie in the pocket and he doesn't care if he's getting hit he knows he's gonna deliver that ball to his wide receivers and still take a hit that's just football because he knows he's played it his entire life he knows football like you know you're gonna get hit but it's it's what you do about it the next play next down next series you gotta just continue to grind and get back up and do it again like Joe he is one heck of a guy and I was saying I think on Twitter the other day or maybe I don't know some sort of social media but they were comparing the top three quarterbacks in the league from now to like a decade ago and it was saying that Mahomes is the new Brady Joe Burrow is the new Peyton Manning and Josh Allen is the new Phillip Rivers I believe yeah and I yeah yeah that's what it was and I couldn't have agreed more with this statement at least as of right now because Josh Allen being compared to Phillip Rivers and never winning a Super Bowl it's honestly trending towards that way and he's gonna have to figure out how to utilize his talents by not just you know putting him putting the team on his back he's got to utilize his teammates and their talents as well like that's how you're gonna go deep into playoff runs and win a Super Bowl and the comparison with Burrow and Peyton Manning I thought was it's pretty accurate like Peyton good quarterback actually now that I think about it I heard the state or this what's the word I'm looking for this comparison that when I was watching the game they compared the Bangladesh offense to the offense that Peyton Manning ran with the Colts because it's a lot of just like get up to the line have a play and let him check down to whatever he likes and he sees he he gets a plan they get set up and he just reads the play that's how it's done Peyton Manning did it for all those years and it looks like Joe Burrow has started to become and evolve that way as well and sure enough he's doing a very well job at it like very well job yeah that's totally great English he he is doing a great job at reading the defensive side of the ball and checking to certain plays and read options and having hot routes to guys that he knows are gonna guys that he knows is gonna be open even if there's a blitz or disguise package that you may not see originally but then that kind of you know leads me to like Mahomes being compared to Brady and it's like I mean Mahomes only has one Super Bowl two Super Bowls I don't remember I I think is one but like I could see that being a good comparison like Mahomes is the next like Wow factor quarterback he can do things that most quarterbacks don't but he's gonna have a tall task if he wants to get another ring ahead of him because he yeah he's kind of hurt right now which leads me into you know I'll go into the next game there which is probably the most exciting game of the weekend to watch you know Jags and Chiefs it was one hell of a game tell you what Chiefs 27 Jaguars 20 it was it was something especially after the fact that the Chiefs were looking unstoppable and the the Jags just couldn't do anything about it like it was it was bad at a point because the Jaguars look like they're probably gonna just give up and throw in the towel but you know once once Mahomes got his injury which is very unfortunate like the Jags kind of have life and it was almost as if you didn't know what the game was gonna fold underneath the Chiefs hands and just the Chiefs were gonna like not do anything about it the Jags had a comeback in some sorts but you know an inexperience on the Jags team kind of did them in they were unlucky in most parts you know having a fumble near the goal line that definitely hurt Chad Henney coming in leading a 95-yard drive for a touchdown like that's a backup quarterback granted he is a veteran he knows what he's doing he's been in the league for a while as a backup like that you know you've seen a thing or two and you know what it takes to do that so good good for him good for Chad Henney but like Jags were kind of unlucky on the most part I would have loved to see them win just because like recency bias and the Chiefs always being the favorites and them winning and always seeing them win I hate that I like seeing new things so like of course I was rooting for the Jags but good thing for the Chiefs they won they're moving on to the next round and it's gonna be a tall task for the Chiefs because they're going up against a team that Patrick Mahomes has never beaten his career just putting that out there Joe Burrow is him and has not lost to the Chiefs so that's gonna be a great AFC championship a rematch of last year's championship in which was the first meeting that they have met and oh yeah no wait that was the second one or am I wrong I I don't remember why am I blanking whatever he lost Patrick Mahomes lost to Joe Burrow so it's gonna be hard for Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs to try and beat the Bengals especially off of a high ankle sprain he's gonna be limited in his mobility and you're just gonna have to try and work things out design a scheme that's gonna win and I don't know if that's gonna happen I'm gonna read into a little bit more and do a weekend preview of the AFC and NFC championships later this week because I will come out with another episode with the NFC and AFC championship previews along with some other stuff you know in sports talk and whatnot that I've seen in social media or across the sports world but as for that that's kind of you know my football talk that was the weekend recap of the divisional round and now leading into my next topic a little bit of a segue into the NBA world you have Shannon Sharp and his I don't even know what you want to call his output his talking to the Lakers players well not the Lakers players the Grizzlies players but you know him being a fan and interrupting a game just because he wanted to trash talk with the other team and I just I find it so funny because he had a take about I think it was a year ago or whatnot on his on his show in which he had stated that if you are a fan spectator you are paying to watch the game you are not paying to interact with the team that is on the court you have to respect those rules and abide by those rules you are not there to interact with them and disrupt the flow of the game which is funny because that is exactly what he had done. Shannon Sharp trash-talking with the Grizzlies players granted the Grizzlies players you know play their part as well and they were trash-talking back like Dylan Brooks probably shouldn't have been talking directly at him and whatnot but like Shannon you you clearly went across your word and said you you clearly went across the word and started talking to the players like you could have easily just let the let it go you could have just walked away from the situation I mean great he did walk away from the situation at the end but he wanted to fight everybody he literally had the entire Grizzlies bench at his throat almost like Steven Adams had to come over and people were trying to shove him around and Steven Adams was not moving a bit and like that's one scary dude I would not want to piss off that dude and Shannon Sharp sure enough did and it's just funny because that's clearly not what he was for about a year ago and along with that LeBron had stated after the game that he was with he was with his boy Shannon Sharp and agreeing that he would have stepped up and done something with him which is completely hilarious because in the incident a few months ago or a year ago I don't remember I just remember knowing that there was an incident at a Pacers game with a couple that LeBron had tossed out or had security get them tossed out because he did not like them interacting with him at the Pacers game which is kind of funny because if you were with your word LeBron and Shannon you would then agree that oh maybe I was in the wrong that's my bad maybe I should be careful next time yeah maybe you should just not talk to them like if they come up and talk to you about nice things that's fine trash talk I get can be you know misconstrued in some ways and players can you know trash talk on the court it's it's fun and it's fun and all and whatnot but like don't try to interact with them back just let it be like you I don't know what else you needed to say you have your own show just go on the next morning and talk about it there that's it you don't need to make a scene and clearly you did and at this point maybe it was a PR stunt I don't know they it just seemed sketchy and don't just don't talk at events like that I I hate when people do that it's like what are you gonna do about it I would love to see you go out there and try and play on one-on-one it would be so funny to watch because they would destroy you you have nothing to say if they want to come and say stuff to you at your game on the football field when you were playing you would probably do the same thing back but like they're not gonna they in return would not do anything about it it's just trash talking to fans and all that interacting with fans should not be done on the court while the game is playing do it before the game like even that's a stretch after game stretch but like let the game dictate itself and decide who's going to be the winner and loser like what what are you really trying to say in that point Shannon like oh I'm a better basketball player than you no you're not because if you were you to play basketball not football and it's just it's so hypocritical of him to think this way I don't understand why people do this it boggles my mind and at that point I think I I I don't even know what else to say it's kind of ridiculous and I just I'm gonna go ahead and move on past this because I I want I want to talk about something that I enjoy other than watching people be hypocritical in the sports world and that is golf are you ready are you ready to talk some golf in recent news on the golf side of sports I find it utterly outstanding how John Rahm is performing in the world of golf at the moment it's kind of shocking to see these numbers he is point he is almost playing as if he is on easy mode like golf to him is easy and looking at his numbers John Rahm's last seven starts he has gone first first tie for eighth first tied for fourth first and tied for second he has won four out of his last seven tournaments playing probably the hottest golf at the moment and it's kind of it's insane like in the in the year of 2023 so far I saw this tweet John Rahm has 56 birdies or eagles in the total holes he's played and 66 pars pretty insane to think that he's almost at a one-to-one clip ratio of birding or eagling the amount the same amount of holes he has pars so it's pretty pretty funny to see that like it makes you question how many majors is John Rahm going to win this year and I I think he's going to win possibly one or two but it's hard to say that because you also have Rory McIlroy who's also playing the best golf he has in a while he finished up the last year really strong he's taking a little bit of a break right now but like you'll see him getting back into things and probably we'll see him at the waste management open I'm not quite sure I could be wrong about that but I know this weekend is a farmers insurance open over in Torrey Pines you'll probably get a lot more big names out there you'll see guys trying to win that because that is a bigger tournament and also like Torrey Pines is it's a classic course it's a it's a course that has a lot of memorable moments and especially Tiger love Tiger he probably won't be playing that that one but it could be seen that John Rahm would be the favorite to possibly win the FedEx this year he is playing some really incredible golf he's got you guys stay that way though like it is a long year a lot of golf to be played but he's playing the hottest golf out of everybody else right now so it'd be lovely to see that happen oh hold up people hold up I don't know why I did that but I I'm gonna go ahead and say that we have some breaking news currently there is a report that says Aaron Rodgers is linked to the Colts an exec says Indianapolis could be a potential trade destination for star QB if Green Bay parts ways with him first reported by ESPN and honestly thinking about that Aaron Rodgers I mean you could go there why not but like if you wanted to go to the Colts I would be fine with that but I'm only saying this as a Bears fan because you're washed up and you actually suck and you don't want us anymore it would be really hilarious if you went there and the Green Bay Packers just like dissolved and were never a they dissolved into being a terrible franchise and decided to just like go off the face of the earth that'd be you that'd be really cool I would love I would love that but yeah going back to you know talking about golf as I was before that I I'm gonna carry on to more golf talks throughout these podcasts episodes because I enjoy golf personally I really miss it I I go out to courses and love playing like 18 holes because it's just it's relaxing to me and I don't know what it is about like striping a well shot and just feeling it come back to the the iron of the club and it's just it's so satisfying when you actually hit that that well of a shot you get the surge of adrenaline that like makes you want to come back to the game every single time even if you have a bad round you just like it doesn't even matter how many bad shots you've had like sure you'll think about it but like you'll think about those one or two or like however many good shots you have in the round and those are the shots that will bring you back and it's just it's it's really cool to see that happen because the pros go through this as well like they know they'll have bad rounds and bad days but like they do it because the surge of adrenaline and like satisfaction that they get from playing golf it's it's one of the hardest sports to play for sure like you have to be very mentally tough and it comes with its ups and downs a lot but as a retired baseball player it's now a new favorite sport to play and I would consider it my passion not passion baseball is my passion but like it's my new hobby I like to pick it up and sure enough once spring comes along and it's warm enough for me to play I you you will find me on a golf course and it's gonna be a great time following along with golf and seeing who is going to win these tournaments other than that you know I don't have much else to say in the world of sports other than you can be sure to look out for another episode later on this week and that I will most likely talk about no weekend preview and the AFC-NFC championship games maybe a little bit more baseball talk as you know spring training is coming down the way here soon some inquire inquiries so yeah inquiries inquiries whatever however you say it I'm probably saying it wrong for sure and I know for sure I'm saying it wrong but things you know teams have done recently the final up or finalized you know the rosters leading into spring training I know the Cubs added Trey Mancini that was a good good veteran bat I like to see that but I think they're sadly done picking up roster players but possibly I'll talk a little bit more about that later on this week as for that you know this was episode 2 of the honest truth sports podcast where we put the realism into journalism I thank you very much once again for listening and be sure to go like this however you can on Twitter and you can see me later on this week thank you once again say you know you made it everybody knows your name and you're deeper in the anything you want you've got it the destination's always changing
