After passing the test and obtaining a Commercial Learner's Permit, there are two weeks of hands-on yard training. This training takes place from Monday to Friday, 8 a.m. to 4.30 p.m. In Week 3, there will be a focus on pre-trip inspections. On Monday of Week 3, go to the scheduled yard and bring your book and completed test. Review the CDL manual daily and dress appropriately for the weather. Pack your lunch, medications, and bring all necessary documents. Training will include straight backing, offset backing, alley dock, and Michigan-specific rules for the road test. Once you pass your test and get your Commercial Learner's Permit, we schedule you for the remaining two weeks of hands-on yard training. You're almost there! The two-week yard training and road experience is held Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 4.30 p.m. Next, let's start thinking about all you need to do for Week 3. Since you're going to learn how to do a pre-trip inspection, let's inspect what you'll need to remember for Week 3. On Monday of Week 3, go to the yard you're scheduled for and remember to bring your book and your completed test to class. Review that CDL manual daily. Dress appropriately for the weather. The yard can get dirty and muddy. Pack your daily supplies, like your lunch and any medications, and bring all your documents. You'll be working on some straight backing, offset backing, and alley dock, and we'll be getting you ready for Michigan-specific rules for your road test.
