Talk: 19990616-Larry_Rosenberg-UNK-shining_the_light_of_death_on_life_part_8-43040 Leandra Tejedor.json Start_time: 00:56:02 Display_question: Do you think you can be too confident with mortality? Keyword_search: mortality, aging, sickness, death, fear, obsession, awake, wake up Question_content: Questioner: Do you think you can be too confident with mortality? Larry: This is a practice. It's not that you walk around all day, I'm going to die. You're right. I understand. There's a time to do it, to stimulate it. But, you see, its main function, is to get you to practice. And practice isn't walking around being preoccupied that you're going to age, and get sick, and die. It's to wake up to what's happening right here, and right now. Now, if that can help you do that, and if it can help you do that with fear, if it does bring up fear, or whatever it brings up, then it's useful. But if we turn it into an obsession, like you're rightfully mocking, then that would be a misuse of it. Also, it would be too much thinking. I mean, the mind would just be it wouldn't be in the moment at all. I wouldn't want to be in the car if you're driving, doing that. What it can do is help you be more fresh, and awake, because you genuinely are more in touch with how precious life is. And that's what's valuable. It's not a new idea that we have to go on over, and over, and over again. It's to wake up, to help us wake up. End_time: 00:57:25
