The speaker met with Alina, a journalist, to discuss her career path. Alina chose journalism over law after realizing that she didn't want to spend her life doing paperwork. She always had a fascination with appearing on the news and telling the world about breaking news. Alina's love for reading and writing also influenced her decision. She is interested in writing about the rise of BRICS (Brazil, Russia, India, China, Saudi Arabia) and the decline of America as a global power. She believes Western media is hesitant to report on this topic. She sees this as a turning point in history where Asia is taking the lead. Alina finds it interesting that the word "euthanization" is not in the English dictionary and sees it as a significant development. I had the amazing opportunity to meet with Alina today and just discuss you know her experiences as a journalist as a journalist student and so I wanted just to start with asking like at what point in your life did you begin considering journalism as a potential career for yourself? I think for me it was always like a debate between journalism or law and then I think it was like year 10 work experience or something I met I went to like this law firm with my family friends with and I realized that like 80% of the job is sitting in the desk doing paperwork and the thought of doing that for the rest of my life made me want to throw up so it was a matter of you know essentially at that point it's like yeah journalism is the way to go and also just I think it's always been like a fantasy to appear on the news like when like breaking news happens you know it's like oh my god like I wish I was there like seeing it firsthand and like being able to tell the world this has happened was also like a fantasy thing as well so I think it's and also like I've always I was I grew up very much as very like avid reader and writer as well I did like four units of English in year 12 so I maxed out all of that and I knew science and English like science and mathematics was not the way to go I hated this I'm just was I was always like you know saying culture that kind of stuff so yeah I feel like it's always been like a part of me and I kind of sort of indirectly just ended up and it's been ingrained into like the way I think in the way I function and why I aspire to be I guess yeah wow okay so it doesn't with double degree there which would give you a bit of insight into lots of different areas like internationally and what's happening currently in the world so if you were to write about anything controversial that's happening at the moment what would what would that be I'm very invested in the uprising of like Bricks I'm not sure if you're familiar with what Bricks is it's essentially the political alliance but political and economic alliance between Brazil Russia India China and Saudi Arabia and I'm sure with just hearing the names of countries a very powerful alliance and they've been able to accomplish and you know things that will is actually changing the political and economic and social dynamic of the world as we know it and it's something that Western media is very hesitant to report upon because they're not sure or they're not in a position to be able to counteract those world leaders world leading powers so if I was to write anything it would be about the fall of America as a primary global power especially with everything that's happening in America with the debt ceiling and obviously them not being able to yet completely come back from the pandemic and the impact it had in our economy and stuff so for me if I was to supposedly write a controversial article it would be about the fall of America and a turning point in modern history where for the first time Asia is leading the world Asia is at the top of their game all eyes are on what Asia does next and I think it's also kind of a note the fact that euthanization as a word doesn't even exist in the English dictionary and that's what's happening right now and I think it's really cool so if I was to write a controversial supposedly controversial article that would be the topic I guess yeah yeah okay amazing you you
