Namrata and Ishika, both students at Azeem Premji University in Bangalore, discuss what it means to be Indian. Ishika feels that being Indian means being born and raised in the country, understanding its past, and being part of its diverse culture. She also acknowledges the challenges of poverty, inequality, and discrimination. Namrata, from Chhattisgarh, highlights the state's rich tribal heritage, forests, and archaeological sites, which reflect India's culture and landscape. They both agree that being Indian is about being connected to history, culture, and values. Hello everyone, my name is Namrata and now I am studying in Azeem Premji University Bangalore and I am a first year BSc B.Sc Biology student and I am from Chhattisgarh, India. So hello everyone, my name is Ishika and currently I am studying in Azeem Premji University Bangalore and I am a first year History major. Well I am from West Bengal, particularly I belong to the North Bengal region. So Ishika, what makes you an Indian? What makes me an Indian? Well I am not sure how to answer to your question because so far I haven't done anything for the nation. But yeah I can proudly say that I am an Indian and I was born and brought up here, learning its past, knowing its ups and downs and being a part of its diversity. India for me is a country with a rich culture and heritage. But apart from this, India as a country also symbolises struggles for social justice, human rights and equality. Also a country with issues of poverty, inequality and discrimination which cannot be neglected. So this was what I feel about India and what makes me an Indian. What about you Namrata? So as I belong to Chhattisgarh, I would like to talk about E. So Chhattisgarh itself is known for its rich tribal heritage and heavy forests and ancient archaeological sites. So people here often have a strong connection to nature and sense of community rooted in tradition. From this perspective, Chhattisgarh is seen as a vibrant representation of India with a rich culture and landscape. Being an Indian means that we are connected to our history, culture and values. This defines our nation.
