The podcast discusses the safety concerns associated with using Uber as a transportation method on college campuses. Uber has recently released data showing a high number of sexual assault incidents during rides. The host advises college students to be aware of these dangers and spread the word to demand change and safety from the company. Reputation and customer feedback play a significant role in a company's success. Hello, everyone, and welcome to today's episode of College Daily. I'm your host, Holly Spinning, here today to discuss a huge concern that could hurt you or one of your fellow students. A major transportation method used on most college campuses around America is currently under significant heat for putting customers in harm's way. The company is named Uber, and if I had to guess, almost every single one of you have heard of it before. It's a quick and easy, technology-driven driving company that will pick you up from any place and take you wherever you may want to go. The idea of the company is smart, especially for college students like you when drinking comes into the scenario. However, Uber rides have proven to be dangerous for many customers. In fact, Uber finally released data recently from 2020 that there were 998 sexual assault incidents, including 141 rape reports in that one year. As a college student, regardless of gender, these numbers should frighten you. Being in a vulnerable state and relying on your driver, it's important to feel perfectly safe in your ride and confident that you will not face any harm from the person responsible for you. The question is, what can college students like you do to demand change and safety from the company? Well, the simplest start is to spread the word and make sure everyone knows how dangerous even just a short Uber ride could be. As a customer, your words and opinions heavily affect the success of a company. In fact, Forbes estimates that roughly 25% of a company's market value can be directly related to reputation. As a college student, your biggest advantage is the amount of people around you who could help you push Uber to change. As always, thank you for listening and I wish you the best of luck studying for finals before winter break. College Daily, out.
