AI Mastering

Transcription

AI literacy is important for students in the classroom. It allows them to navigate AI systems and avoid pitfalls like outdated information and plagiarism. Being AI literate improves media literacy skills and helps develop problem-solving, critical thinking, and collaboration skills. However, there are downsides to AI literacy, such as the risk of plagiarism and copyright infringement. AI tools may use content from other sources without proper attribution. Despite these challenges, AI literacy is necessary in our technologically advanced society. To learn more, read Adeem's essay on AI's importance in the classroom. Hello, my name is Adeem McKenzie-Kennedy. I'm a student in Literacy and Technology course by Professor Hemsley. This video is to discuss Part 2 of Project 2. The topic of this video is AI literacy. I also wrote an essay on this same topic, which is Part 1 of this project. For this segment I will be touching briefly on the pros and cons of being AI literate and how it relates to students in the classroom. What is AI literacy? Well, it is defined as having the knowledge and skills needed to think, use, and navigate systems and tools of AI in a proficient and safe manner. Now that we defined what AI literacy is, we're going to discuss the pros and cons of being AI literate in the classroom. Now, the pros of being AI literate is being able to navigate it in ways that you avoid the pitfalls of it, which is running into outdated information or even plagiarism. Being literate in AI helps you to improve your media literacy skills. Not only are you able to navigate these systems better, you will develop important skills such like problem solving, critical thinking and collaboration. The reason being is that these tools provide ways for you to visualize and understand data that printed books don't provide. And as a result, you're able to engage with the material better as opposed to reading it in a book. And plus, you get to know how to utilize technology in academic settings to where you can have access to assignments and complete it on time. On the other side, you have the downsides of being AI literate. Oftentimes, AI literacy has you running into outdated information. Not only that, there's concerns of plagiarism and copyright infringement. Even though a lot of students know how to use these systems, they run into risk of plagiarism because oftentimes they use these tools to write essays and other assignments and they turn it into their professor's online portal. And oftentimes, these online portals catches content from other articles and places that the AI tools use to write your article. And as a result, you get a zero for plagiarism. You don't want to run into that. And that's a downside to AI literacy. And oftentimes, the content that these AI tools use to write your articles comes from content from New York Times. And oftentimes, that runs into copyright infringement. And as a student, you don't want to run into these issues. Plus, it makes it harder for you to trust the use of AI knowing that it doesn't fully solve the issues of completing schoolwork and other assignments on time without running into plagiarism and outdated information, which also ties into copyright infringement. Nobody wants to deal with all these issues. I believe that AI literacy is necessary for students to navigate and understand because as our society becomes more technologically advanced, we need to be able to learn how to use these technologies in order to complete assignments on time, but also use them safely and wisely. If you want to learn more, read my essay, which is part one of project two, which is AI's importance in the classroom.
