The speaker begins by thanking God for another day and leads a prayer. The topic of the devotion is valuing our birthright, as seen in the story of Esau and Jacob. The birthright is a symbol of our position and authority as children of God. Esau traded his birthright for immediate satisfaction, which was a mistake. We should reflect on the gift of our birthright, be thankful for God's blessings, develop our gifts and talents, and surround ourselves with supportive people. We should value our spiritual birthright and live a life of hope, faith, and love. The main verse is Hebrews 12:16-17. The speaker concludes by thanking the listeners and inviting them to stay tuned for more content. Amen The Topic For Today's Devotion Is Valuing Our Birthright Taking From Genesis Chapter 25 Verse 29 To 34 Genesis 25 29 To 34 And I Read From The King James Version And Jacob sowed pottage, and Esau came from the fields. And he was faint. And Esau said to Jacob, Feed me, I pray thee. With that saying read pottage. For I am faint, therefore was his name called Edom. And Jacob said, Sell me this day thy birthright. And Esau said, Behold, I am of the point to die. And what profit shall this birthright do to me? And Jacob said, Swear to me this day. And he swore unto him, and he sold his birthright unto Jacob. Then Jacob gave Esau bread and pottage of lentils. And he did eat and drink, and rose up and went his way. Thus Esau despised his birthright. Amen. Valuing Our Birthright Dearly Beloved, We have been given a priceless gift as all children in the form of our birthright. The term birthright in the Bible typically refers to a first-born son's right to inherit to the Father's property and authority. By virtue of being born-again Christians, we have become God's children and are entitled to the birthright. This birthright is what permits us to a position of leadership and authority in the kingdom of God. It is a symbol of who we are, where we come from, and the purpose for which we've been created. Unfortunately, many of us don't always recognize the worth of our birthright. We may take it for granted or even sell it away for something that seems valuable at the time. But this is a mistake. Our birthright is a treasure beyond compare. In today's text, Esau focused on satisfying his immediate hunger and willingly traded away his birthright as the first-born son from bread and a pottage of lentils. Jacob, on the other hand, valued this birthright that he was prepared to use any means to obtain it. Although this means of obtaining the birthright is not advised, his desire for it is commendable. Esau's apparent need for food seemed legitimate, but there was still no justification for the mistake he made. Any time we trade away the priceless gifts that God has given us for temporary and fleeting pleasures, we rob ourselves of the fullness of life that God has intended for us. Hebrews chapter 12 verse 16 to 17 emphasizes how Esau sought with many tears to receive the blessing, but was too late for repentance. Thus, we need to be careful not to trade our valuable possession for temporary pleasures. How can we therefore ensure that we value and hold on to our birthright? First is to reflect on the gift of our birthright. Ephesians 2 verse 10 says, For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God had before ordained that we shall work in them. We need to take some time to think about all that God has given us, and how our birthright fits into his plan for our lives. Second, as clearly stated in Colossians 3 verse 15b, we need to develop a heart and a spirit of thanksgiving for all the blessings of God in our lives. Third, we need to invest our time, energy, and resources in developing the gifts and talents that God has given us. 2 Timothy chapter 1 verse 6 encourages us to planning to fling the gift of God which is in us through the laying of hands. Finally, let us endeavor to surround ourselves with people who value our birthright. Proverbs 13 verse 20 says, He that walketh with wise men shall be wise, but a companion of fools shall be destroyed. We need to seek out friends, family, and mentors who will encourage and support us in our Christian journey. Dear friends, let us value our spiritual birthright as children of God, and strive to fulfill our calling by avoiding sin, looking to Jesus, and living a life of hope, faith, and love. May God bless us as we do so, in Jesus' name. Amen. Our main verse will be taken from Hebrews chapter 12 verse 16 to 17. Make sure that no one is immoral or godless like Esau, who treated his birthright as a firstborn son by a single mean. You know that afterwards, when he wanted his father's blessing, he was rejected. It was too late for repentance, even though he begged with bitter tears. Amen. Thank you beloved, and God bless you for staying through with us.
